Venables to OU

I always wondered if Stoops had a falling out with Venables over the Baylor game 10 years ago. Baylor had never beaten OK and never even close to winning. It was late in the season and OK was poised to play in the title game. But that was the night RG3 won the Heisman. He completed only 22 passes but he threw for almost 500 yards and 4 tds including the game winner with a few seconds left. He had another couple long td passes called back by penalty it could have been worse. At the end of the season Venables was fired. I always wondered if that game caused him to get fired. But it worked out well for Venables.
Again Cali. He didn't get fired. Bob brought Mike back after he got canned in Arizona. In 2012. I think that was b before the RG

Disaster. Will check the years. Dabo gave Venables the D reigns at Clemson and it worked out. Not sure what OU offense will look like next Oct. but expect a D that will hold the Horns under 48.

I'll give him credit for what he did at Clemson. However, in fairness they had a ton of talent in a very weak ACC conference. Lebby was a good hire.
That’s a fair point. For recency purposes, Venables coached against two SEC teams this year (Georgia and South Carolina) and his defense gave up a total of three points in eight quarters.

They beat Georgia 10-3 in the first game of the year. First games the defense is more often than not ahead of the offense. If that game were played right now, Georgia would score much more than 10 points. Any time you pitch a shut out, that's impressive. Overall the Clemson defense did well this year, but they should given the talent that they have and who they play.

Obviously nobody knows how the BV Hire will turn out, but I personally like it. Especially if he can grab Joe Brady or Jeff Lebby as the OC. Joe C. has an excellent track record of hires, especially when compared to UTs recent coach hiring history (talking Football and Men's Basketball). Seeing UT fans pound their chest over how this hire is so so, to me is quite comical.

That is awesome! I'm very excited for you guys. Perfect hire! He is winning the natty next year for sure. #1 defense on deck for OU!!!
Nothing of the sort. But those who think they're going to suddenly become Nebraska 2.0 just because Lincoln Riley left are way off base IMO.

Hey man. All we're saying is BV has a reasonable chance to be as successful as Stoops or Riley. Not that he definitely will be.

We're also refuting the idea that he has "little or no chance" to be as successful as Riley.

Again, both of these ideas rely on the strength of the OU brand, and the tremendous support that the program receives from the university, and the community, including a nationwide fanbase.

Good news, we’re getting the band back together. In all seriousness, Schmidt is a guy Riley got rid of for being too tough on players and brought in Tech softee Bennie Wylie. It’s fixin to get nasty down in Norman

Damn. May as well and not play any games in the next decade and give the NC trophy to OU. It's over for everyone else, lol.

Are you talking about the same Bennie Wylie. who was at TX and then OK? Hey that guy's that not soft he was the guy when OK won a few Big XII titles. He never got a chance to show what he could do at TX because that fat ass Jeff Madden cut him off at the knees. Venables was smart to bring back Schmidt he was leap's and bounds better than Jeff Madden.

Schmidt was here when Riley was named OC. When Riley was named HC he got rid of Schmidt and brought in Wylie. No more Tech tard coaching tree for OU. Bedenbaugh may be asked to stay on I'm not sure but he seems pretty well regarded.
