When I was a kid, you could fill up a tire...

On a serious note, most gas stations had a full service lane and a self service lane. Full service mean tires checked/filled, windshield cleaned, oil checked, radiator checked/topped off and car filled with gasoline. Of course the gas was a little more expensive too. Hell, I'm not sure my mom even knew how to fill up the car.

My dad always said all she knew how to do was "put the key in and go!"

Cars used to have some weird places to place the refill hose too, like behind the rear license place, behind one of the tail lights, in the middle of the car above the trunk and the like.

Remember those red rags the service guys always carried they used to wipe off the oil dip stick and the like?
