Peanut the squirrel was the mascot for P'Nuts Freedom Farm Animal sanctuary, a non-profit organization in New York that has saved over 300 at-risk animals. If you haven't heard by now, Peanut and his racoon friend Fred were internet stars, racking up millions of followers over various social media. Peanut himself was rescued seven years ago when his mother was killed by a car.
On Friday eight New York special DEC agents raided the home of the sanctuary owners and took Peanut and Fred. The search warrant stated the agents were looking for "unlawful wildlife." A day later, it was learned that the animals had been euthanized.
The response by the public has been swift and furious, with Peanut's last Tiktok post gaining over 5M views. And the outrage has been specifically directed at the democrat controlled state agency in New York responsible for this travesty. Many of the responses online are pro-MAGA. We'll have to see if Peanut's legacy will live on through the election.
