They have elite touch, passing and speed of thought. It’s beautiful. Costa Rica are really bad. Probably the worst team in the tournament.

Well personally I place the Sex-Abuse scandal more in current events. Though given its impact on the church it is certainly historic. Hell I put most events since Desert Storm in the present. The reference to Cortes was gold. It's funny, he led one of the most brilliant political/military campaigns in history, yet gets little love from modern historians due to the mass die off of the indigenous peoples following the spread of European diseases. My Hispanic students will call him a butcher.....and then I point out to them that without Cortes, without that massive influx of Spanish DNA, they very likely do not exist....myself included.

Well we hung with England. Not a W but I was thinking 4-1 Eng. i'll take it.
It was kind of a let down game. England was poor and didn’t seem to excited to try and score goals.
The defensive set up the US had in the MF and their off winger tucking in as a second striker made it tough on Rice and Bellingham. Tyler Adams bossed the MF for the US this game.
I give soccer a legit shot over and over again and it lets me down every time. So unexciting

I mean, people thought that 9-6 LSU-Bama game was exciting not too long ago.
You either appreciate something for what it is, try and learn the tactical strategy of it or you don’t.
If you want lots of scoring that doesn’t mean much, go watch basketball. If you want 6 seconds of game play followed by 30 seconds of nothing then football is your game. If you want to see a dude throwin max effort gas trying to blow his UCL while a hitter swings and misses multiple times then baseball is your thing.
I could go on, but basically people like sports for very specific reasons. If you don’t like it, it is what it is.
Rugby is one of my Davy sports to watch in the Olympics now. I’m starting to understand it a bit more. Good stuff
I hear you but that could be said about baseball as well. I'll say this! Going to a pro soccer game is way more exciting. Fans are constantly chanting and having a good time. It also seems the game goes by a lot quicker for some reason.
0-0 games are as exciting as 6-3 football games. All defense isn't always a fun game to watch. Like Weevil said it's a strategic game almost like watching chess.
^^^^^ This.....until my students compelled me to make the effort to understand the strategy, tactics and flow of the game, I had much the same opinion of soccer. While I do not profess to understand the game like weev and oldmanastro, I can now appreciate the sharp passes, the game of possession, and the timing involved in the match.

Portugal, as I said earlier-- keep the ball down near the other teams goal until Ronaldo sells a flop foul and gets a penalty kick.
Spain just spreads out and passes back and forth forcing the defense to run, run, run some more, run more until ultimately the defense is so fvcking tired of chasing Spain's literally 1000 passes, that it makes it easy for Spain to run right by you.
Stop chasing Spain's passes and save your legs.
England is all defense. They sit back, in an impenetrable shell surrounding the goal until you give up the rock. Then they walk it back up the field slowly, then run the basketball equivalent of the "pick and roll" and get you to smack it out the back line to defend-- then they just corner kick you to death. Set pieces seem to be their bread and butter. And unless you're lucky as hell and can get the ball out to the side or the front, England is just going to keep corner kicking the sh!t out of you until they score.
Brazil has no offense. It's all style points. You have 10 prima donnas out there all convinced they are "artists" painting on a green canvas with a round ball. Brazilian fans get more excited about the equivalent of a Magic Johnson no look pass than they do the actual goal. I feel like I'm watching strippers at a spring break wet t-shirt contest. Brazil is just as likely to get smoked by 5 goals as they are to win. But as long as they look good though..... well that's all that matters.

I’m not a soccer fan at all but I have taken the time to watch the World Cup this year and I’ll tell you I have really enjoyed it. So far to me it looks like France may be the team to beat. But like I said I don’t really know a lot about the game.
