World Cup (me, freeper and Old man astro with occasional MM kickball reference lol) Thread

Well todays the day. The US must win today or else it's pack your bags.

So I hate politics and now we're facing Iran (eye ron). Apparently 1 of our players hurt the feelings of their reporter because he pronounced it incorrectly. Anyways I'd love to win this one today 2-1.

meh, it will always be "i ran", fvck a bunch of "E ron".

USA!

Our boys were absolutely dead at the end, left it all out there on the pitch. We played very well today and hope Pulisic and Sargent make it back for Saturdays game. We’re going to need them!

I've said in the past-- better to be lucky than good.

That last ball that went by our goalie-- if it had 1 more RPM on it- it goes in the net. Luckily, it had the spin taken off it.
Pure luck.

You’re absolutely correct and that happened at least twice during the game. That’s the part most don’t understand about the sport. 1-0 seems boring as sh!t but if anyone watched that game, your BP was elevated for at least the last 40 minutes because there isn’t a pause in action. Sure you can get nit picky about the foul stoppage but it’s consistent play and any ‘unlucky/lucky’ deflection can happen at any moment and it’s over.

Oh and just when you think you’ve made it till the end, you’ve got another 9 minutes to play….

The gamesmanship is pretty easy to ignore...just like in all other sports :)

I had to be running about a 124.

You knew 10' of stoppage was coming. For Berhalter to sub on 3 defenders and run a back 5 with essentially 20 minutes to play was insane. We were indeed lucky to hold on as clob mentioned.

Gio Reyna has 8 minutes played in this world cup. Our coach is an asshole. He sets up the team so well and then the 2nd half begins and the dude just can't find the right buttons. It's maddening.

Shaq Moore shouldn't play another minute.

Stoppage always kills me when it's a close game. You know that's when the team that's behind will push. It's a nerve wracking moment.

Anyone else watching Wrexham? It's pretty cool to watch it go from losing to winning. Building a community backup around a team.

There’s very little in this world I care about less than Stephen A’s opinion of the USMNT.

I was thinking about that but didn't read anything on who they sat. Crazy they only lost by 1.

The talent that France had on the field was still the equivalent of an SEC team playing a cupcake FCS team in late November. Yeah, some of the backups played but those backups are more talented at every single position and it's not close.

France dominated the game and should've won. They had almost 70% possession, completed more passes in Tunisia half of the field than Tunisia even attempted, lol. France had more shots, corners, and won a significant amount more of duels.

It's looking more and more like a Brazil vs. Argentina and France vs. Spain semi-final.

Obviously I hope for the United States to get to the SF, but damn...those would be some games.
With the way it's gone this year I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a couple of wild upsets.
