Your opinion: buying away football tickets - what's the sweet spot?

I give a not insubstantial amount of money to Texas Athletics and the Longhorn Foundation for my football tickets. Every year they publish a tiered list indicating how much you must donate in order to qualify for away game tickets. Every year I feel like a loser because my "not insubstantial" donation is towards the bottom of that list. Also I think my wife is cheating on me with my lawn guy, Fernando.

Punchline: when I go to away games, I usually rock the secondary market (StubHub, SeatGeek, SimpleSeats, and several other improperly-punctuated purveyors of aftermarket tickets). Sometimes I buy tickets months in advance. Sometimes I wait till a few weeks out.

Question: anybody got data on when's generally the best time to snatch tickets via that method?

Any advice on the yard guy is welcome as well. My son Fernando Junior tells me it's all in my head, but I'm not sure.
