Today's Gift (1-21)

A good friend will help you move, but a great friend will help you move a body.
~~~~~~~ Anonymous, and with good reason
Good morning. It's a little early but it's a travel day, so I need to get moving. This being Sunday, I could use a little sermonizing. In the 60+ days that I've been standing in for the late DippyDawg here at TG, one thing that has been a recurrent theme is the nature and quality of the friendships that have been forged. DD built a great little community---the congregation, as Mrs T-Sipper beautifully refers to us. That got me to thinking about what the Bible might have to say about friendship. Here's a sampling:
  • The book of John is filled with the joy of friendship. My favorite verse is 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." We could probably stop right there, and close the thread.
  • But Proverbs is also worth a look. Prov 18:24 tells us that "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who will stick closer than a brother [or a sister, I might add]." That's the person we trust, and I mean REALLY trust. Those are the people who hurt when we hurt.
  • "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Prov 17:17. These are the people we stand by, and who stand by us, even in times of trouble.
  • "As iron sharpens iron, so does one friend sharpen another." Prov 27:17. These are the people who bring out the best in us. It's a process that is at work here every day, as we learn from each other.
"Good friends help you find important things when you've lost them...your smile, your hope, and your courage." Those are the friends we all want. Those are the friends we have. Here. May God continue to add His blessing to TG and to all of us.
FAA Urges Airlines To Inspect Another Boeing 737 Model For Mid-Air Door Blowout Risks
Boeing shares fell in premarket trading in New York following the Federal Aviation Administration's announcement on Sunday recommending airlines to inspect another variant of the Boeing 737 for faulty mid-exit door plugs. This development occurred weeks after an incident where a door detached from an Alaska Airlines flight.
"As an added layer of safety, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is recommending that operators of Boeing 737-900ER aircraft visually inspect mid-exit door plugs to ensure the door is properly secured," the FAA wrote in a statement.
The 900ER is an older aircraft not part of the Max family. Data from the plane manufacturer shows 505 of these planes are used by US domestic airline carriers and others worldwide. Major operators of the plane include United Airlines Holdings, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Air Lines.
How did Boeing go from American Icon to this current disaster of a company?
True Detective S4 E2 (and S4 ties to S1)
Interesting episode… especially with the tattoo symbol and finding the RV at the end.
The tattoo matches the cult symbol from Rust Cohle’s notebook in Season 1.
This episode also seems to confirm Travis, the dead guy who danced on the ice in episode 1, is Rust Cohle’s father (McConaughey’s character in season 1).
Interested to see where this goes, I’m enjoying it thus far.
Longhorns add 2026 RB commitment
Saturday’s Texas Longhorns junior day was mostly focused on the 2025 recruiting class, but it was one player from the class of 2026 that made the biggest headline.
Aledo running back Raycine Guillory, who picked up a UT offer back in October of last year, attended UT’s junior day on Saturday and rumors began to swirl towards the end of the event that he had given the Longhorns a commitment. On Saturday night, Guillory announced his commitment publicly with a social media post.
Guidry becomes the Longhorns’ first commitment in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Along with Texas, he had offers from programs like Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC, among others.
The 5-11, 170-pound Guillory rushed for 1,236 and 7 touchdowns last year as a sophomore. He added 10 receptions for 175 yards and 4 scores.
TDS
still purposely trying to uncover what causes this , singularly from stated Conservatives /Independents
we all know the substantive responses what we get from Liberals ( cue the laughing emoticon)
I cannot think of a more attacked political figure anywhere in history.
Those that side with Trump are characterized (projected) by the left (and some Kinzinger/Cheney types on the right) as walking cult figures that hinge with every utterance from the former Presidents mouth. An purposeful exaggeration meant to quell any debate or analysis.
Similarly never Trumpers never quite seem to be able articulate or enumerate their grievance(s) past mean tweets or his penchant to exaggerate "like we have never seen" (et al)
Never Trumpers apparently never delve deep into their visceral dislike of the man to realize, if they did, they could easily apply similar dissatisfaction with Bush, Romney, McCain or any leading Republican leader in the last century ( maybe excluding Reagan)
This remarkable phenomenon comes at at time when the divide between the current ,radical left wing of the Democratic Party and traditional Conservatives agree on virtually nothing at all except TDS...meanwhile Trump , who won the election in 2016 ..then got 16% more votes in 2020 ( thats 10 million more votes) and now polls at even higher %'s than 2020 leading into the 2024 election. This defies mathematical norms . Where are all the new voters coming from ? they are not being scraped off of old voter registries or unearthed out of graveyards as is the Democrat way ...the are precisely being converted from historic Democratic blocks...the blue collar working class and a modicum of minority groups ( blacks and Hispanics) and the younger, silent majority of our youth ...these groups have first hand accounts of what was and what is...a perfect petrie dish of 2 styles of government ..one talks non stop about the working man the other actually produces more disposable income and opportunity for that group
This group is more gutteral in its belief systems and its support ...that 1997 Chevrolet truck with a Trump sticker on the back windshield, will firmly lock eyes with you traveling down I-35 as you pass..they are willing to get into the mud with the left ......and they are tired of the talk ( on both sides)
One side hates America and talks about economic and social injustices . One side states they have the better mosusetrap but they never catch any mice. Ever
The third side simply wants to hold on to more of what they sweat for each week . They have no use for talks of Ukraine or defund the police, They have a hard enough time buying Kraft mac and cheese and soon to be expired hamburger steaks to be involved in a tone deaf government class generationally proimise. Their jobs are being replaced by illegal immigrants , their taxes are increasing and the tax money spent never makes it back to them or their community in any useful manner. They are simply not represented. Trump is virtually the only politician that speaks to this...watch the Trump rallies and pay close attention to the faces in the crowd ...i believe you'll not see your mom and dads Republican debutantes in there. There is an emerging group who is tired of the talk on both sides
So as we enter the election straits of 2024...who is the real minority ?
Is it the ever growing violent left who seeks to suppress speech and imprison its political oppoents ?
Or is it the Republican never Trumper who is comfortable in getting its political ass handed to itself for the last 50 years with the exact same template that has overseen and stood by to see this country become what it is today ?
or is it Trump and the growing group of American Nationalists who know what it is that made and makes this country special and are tired of people exaggerating what it is and isnt ?
i think the numbers speak for themselves
so you go ahead and indict Trump on an another insane charge that is clearly politically driven and stand behind a career bureaucrat that sells information to our enemies
keep speaking about how we need a more traditional, career politician who says all the right things and wont enflame the media to turn things around in Washington DC
go on and rail about Trump and his imperfections, dont feel bad about yourself when asked to ennumerate your negatives on Trump and you run out of ideas after "you just dont like him"
The new, emerging Republican base doesn't really care ...they stand for very basic items and they have very little left to lose
1. lots of less of everything from Washington DC
2. pay attention to America's needs and its people first
3. reward performance not equity
Trump didn't break America . His Presidency oversaw the reversal of the Obama economy and led to economic, domestic and foreign policy heights all while being unprecedentedly attacked by the left on entirely made up charges by his political opponents ( thats some actual 3rd world BS)
You dont have to like the guy, but not voting for him for that is really not a political ethos is it ? If you think it is , you are part of the problem .
