2019 Recruiting Thread

Jordan Whittington (5 star WR) and T'Vondre Sweat (3 star DE) were both on campus yesterday making unofficial visits.

It seems that we are in a really strong position with Whittington. His visit also caused a lot of commotion on aggy boards as some reported he would visit College Station yesterday but he told ag reporters he didn't have a ride.

Sweat is the lone 3 star among a long list of 4 star DEs. I of course do not know how our staff is prioritizing him, but to me it seems he would be a backup option if we don't land some of the higher ranked players.

Offer out to athlete Jeffrey Carter. He plays WR and CB, not sure which position we like him at. Already committed to OU.

Per Eric Nahlin @ IT:

ARJEI HENDERSON

2019 wide receiver rankings won't be decided until for a year, but one player who will be in the mix for top honors in the end has been there since the beginning. Along with Allen's Theo Wease, Fort Bend Travis' Arjei Henderson has been a well known name since his sophomore year when he was picking up big offers.

Also along with Wease, Henderson committed to Oklahoma for a short time before opening things back up. He's also been committed to Oregon. There is still a year to go.

For UT's purposes, hitting the number at wide receiver (3-4) should be easy. There's no need to press early on for Henderson. You just want to be in the final pack down the home stretch. Things will likely work out from there.

Early standouts:
“Oklahoma, Alabama, A&M. Those three are really huge and UT.”
Henderson also mentions TCU and Clemson.

Texas QB commit Roschon Johnson's recruiting efforts:
“He’s definitely been putting in his effort in recruiting. Him and other commits have been taking their shots at me.”

Texas:
“Just Texas tradition. Being from Texas, there’s no feeling like it. Austin, the culture there, the city, Lake Travis, everything there, it’s a wonderful place.”

“I’d definitely love to see them air it out a little bit more. Of course, they can do both, but I’d definitely love to see them use their receivers a little bit more, put them into action.”

A&M:
“A&M, the tradition there at Aggieland, I’ve never seen anything like it. That was probably my first visit and still probably my favorite one. The coaching staff, the tradition there, it’s not football, football. They’re preaching life after football and being successful in life as a man. That’s something that opened my eyes.”

Visits he'd like to make:
“I definitely want to get down to UT, definitely spend a lot of time there. The same with Alabama. I don’t get to see that, be on campus, hang around those guys much, so I try to do that as much as I can.”

Oklahoma:
“I just love being up there in Norman, I love the feeling.”

LSU:
“I heard from LSU not too long ago. Coach D, the linebacker coach, the receiver coach and the offensive coordinator. Those three reached out to me. They love my versatility, how I can play inside and out. They’d love to get me up for a visit soon.”

“I’ve never been there, but growing up, it was a childhood favorite. I saw them playing on TV, Les Miles. I can’t wait to get up there on my official and see what I haven’t seen before.”

Factors:
“Just a place I can call home and further my education, future and career in football.”

Family:
“I’m from UT, I was born and raised in Austin. That’s my dream school, that’s where I grew up. Of course, that plays a big part in my decision, but I’m going to wait it out and take my time with it.”

Decision timeline:
“I’m not sure yet. I plan on waiting until February, but I can’t speak on it now.

BACK ON THE ROAD

Once the dead period ended, Texas hit H-town hard on Friday, checking in on signees like Malcolm Epps, commits like Keondre Coburn, top targets like Joseph Ossai, and future prospects like Javonne Shepherd. With the Houston area full of 4- and 5-star athletes from the 2018 class, UT has its priorities in order.

They (Stan Drayton) also swung through East Texas to see A&M commit Tyree Wilson (West Rusk) and current pledge Keaontay Ingram (Carthage).

Now the shift goes to Dallas-Fort Worth. This week the Horns staff will visit major targets like Brian Williams (Bishop Dunne), Demani Richardson (Waxahachie), Jalen Catalon (Mansfield Legacy), and Johnathan McGill (Coppell).

We look to have a few updates throughout the next few days on what the top 2019 prospects are thinking about the Longhorns. They currently look great for Williams and McGill, good for Richardson, and on the outside for Catalon.

We'll have more later this week.

ISAIAH FOSKEY

Texas has been somewhat judicious with its 2019 offers. There's many reason for that, mainly because they want to fully evaluate any prospect before extending an invitation to the 40 Acres. But just like last Spring, you'll see a smattering of offers to the most elite in the country. So, when Stanford and Michigan recruit a tight end, you offer first and ask questions later. That's Isaiah Foskey.

"I don’t know that much about Texas at this point since it is so early and I still have to visit the school to know the coaches a little more," said Foskey after receiving his Texas offer on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound high 4-star prospect holds over 20 offers including Alabama, USC, UCLA, and Michigan. He's also a big fan of the Cardinal.

"Right now, the ones recruiting me he the hardest are probably UCLA and Cal," Foskey said. "I really want to visit Stanford. That would be a visit I would really enjoy. Alabama and Washington is also recruiting in a aggressive way. They want me to visit too."

Foskey and Texas might be a long shot. A west coast kid (De La Salle HS, CA) with all those options would be tough to pluck out-of-state, but at least UT threw its hat in the ring. The high end TE is approaching it open-minded however, so if you could get him to Austin, the Horns may have a shot.

"Every college environment is different," said Foskey. "I'm looking for the perfect fit wherever that may be."

T'VONDRE SWEAT

We know without a doubt the two positions Texas must focus on in 2019's class - offensive and defensive lines. So when they hosted Huntsville 3-star DL and UT offer T'Vondre Sweat this weekend, it was another chance for the Horns to make an impression on a priority position for its next class. You could say it went well.

“Man, it was great,” said Sweat. “I love it there. (Texas) keeps it real." When UT offered back in early October, they started building a relationship with the under-ranked junior defensive lineman. Offers from Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Baylor came through, followed by contact from Michigan and Penn State.

But by jumping on board early, Herman's staff established itself as a major player in this recruitment.

"Man, I love it down there in Austin,” Sweat reminded me. “It’s so beautiful down there and it’s real chill over there on the campus. It’s got everything.”

Texas will take 3-4 interior defenders in 2019 and Sweat might be one of them. Making an unofficial to the ATX from Huntsville this weekend shows the Horns look good here. Maybe real good.

I want to see him on the camp scene. I want to see him compete this spring and summer. And I think he'll attend UT's Junior day (date not yet set).

From: Joe Cook

The receiver crop in the class of 2019 could be one of the best in recent years. Several 2019 WRs, including Theo Wease, Garrett Wilson, and Dylan Wright have interest in Texas. Another one, Cuero's Jordan Whittington, took an unofficial visit to Austin last weekend.

Texas and Whittington are no strangers, as Jordan has made the trip up US-183 to Austin several times in recent months. Whittington had a commitment scheduled for this past October, but he has pushed that back to a date before the beginning of his senior season.

Whittington's versatility is what makes his game special. He plays safety at a high level, but at receiver, he has quick breaks and a gamer mentality. Whittington made the trip to Texas this past weekend joining several of Texas' top remaining 2018 targets.

"It was great," Whittington said. "I got to meet more players."

Since the NCAA enacted the early signing period, it made sense for them to also allow for spring official visits. More and more players who plan to commit and sign early want to complete the process before their senior season begins. Whittington told Inside Texas he plans to take official visits in the spring before committing prior to the season.

Currently, Texas is battling Texas A&M, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida, and UCLA for Whittington's commitment. OSU was one of the first to offer Whittington, and Oklahoma recently made their way back into the mix.

IT asked Whittington about several of the new coaching hires at three schools in his top group, and he said that all the schools, Florida, A&M, and UCLA, hired coaches that he liked.

Despite his affinity for those new coaches, Whittington said he enjoyed his time with Texas WRs coach Drew Mehringer this past weekend. "I like how he cares about your life more than football," he said.

Texas is recruiting Whittington to be a slot receiver. I checked in with Gator Country out in Florida, and they said the Gators are telling him that he can play all three receiver positions in their offense.

A&M will remain a threat in this recruitment, but he has yet to meet A&M WRs coach Dameyune Craig face-to-face. That should change in the coming weeks.

Whittington should make it back to Austin again in the spring, whether for a junior day, a visit, or for Texas Relays. Cuero and Whittington participated in the Texas Relays last year, and with his speed (along with other solid Gobbler athletes) they should be back in Mike A. Meyers Stadium this spring.

The Jaden Davis offer continues a trend of Texas looking OOS for CBs in the 2019 class. There just isn't much at the position in Texas this year.

Texas also offered 4 of Jaden Davis's younger teammates with offers out to 2020 recruits Jovan Ferguson (Ath), Marcus Rosemy (WR), Derek Wingo (TE, OLB, Ath) and Xavier Restrepo (Ath). Texas seems determined to take recruiting nationwide and particularly is interested in St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Florida.

Apparently Texas wasn't done at St. Thomas Aquinas. They have now offered 4 star SDE Braylen Ingraham, 4 star OLB Anthony Solomon and unranked CB Marcus Lafrance. The trio all attend St. Thomas Aquinas, bringing the count of offers up to 8 to that one school today.

Recruiting groups of teammates especially out of state seems like a good idea. Some guys are more likely to be open to some place out of state if some of their teammates jump on board with them.

and make that 9 now with an offer going out to Vincent Murphy, a 3 star guard. I don't think I've ever seen that many offers to one school. Granted, they are spread over 2 different classes, but still.

Does Herman or anyone on the staff have any ties to that specific HS coaching staff?

Geez, now up to 11 with S Jordan Battle of the 2019 class and 2021 DL Tyreak Sapp. This school has loads of talent.

So just saw the main headline on the orangebloods banner. Totally thought Garrett Wilson was white.

2020 stud CB Dwight McGlothern earns a Texas offer.

Texas going after some studs early!

Herman and Co. are aggressive on the recruiting trail. I don't remember Mack or Charlie being this aggressive this early, especially in regards to offering out of states studs early.

Today, the Horns went after the top talent from Grayson High School in Georgia with offers going out to:
Kenyon Jackson - 4 star WR
Owen Pappoe - 5 star LB, #5 overall recruit
Wanya Morris - 4 star OT
Kevin Harris - 4 star LB

We won't land many of these OOS top players but even adding 1-2 along the way is huge.

mmmmm.... gonna disagree on mack not offering early. remember, when things didn't go well, everybody on here whined that mack offered kids too early and didn't follow up on evaluations to see progress. you member all that, i'm sure. NOW he didn't do that too much with out of state guys, i don't think. but there were only a handful of out of state guys that i really recall making any impact with mack either. not a complaint or a compliment.

side note-- you guys that keep up with this stuff in detail and post it over here? sincere appreciations. i mean it. keep it up.

So Brian Williams getting CBs to aggy. Thought this might happen. Gonna be a fight for top talent in the state this year. Just as I was starting to get used to taking what’s ours

Offer out to 4 star linebacker, #3 ILB in nation, Donte Starks from LA.

Brian Williams 5* safety commits to aggy.....which isnt a big deal. First all TEXAS inked a couple of good safeties in this years class. Second.....every top recruit that gives aggy an early pledge usually ends up de-committing before its all said and done. Its an aggy tradition

Marquez Beason, stud WR/CB ath also trending aggy.

They had a big official visit weekend with juniors this past weekend. There is still a long ways to go in these recruitments.

As well as Arjei Henderson and Theo Wease. Yup...Herman’s got competition

Hey guys, longhorn fan here who grew up also follows FSU (huge Bobby Bowden fan). I'd like to add...Jimbo is one heck of a recruiter (he will get his share unfortunately). However, the top state receivers that commit to the Aggies will soon be quick to find out that his offense is scheme driven. It is not players driven. Whether you're a 5 start or 3 star...his offense is build to run based on scheme and consistency. He will not let the player loose sort of speak....to sum this up....after years of watching his offense, his offense will be built like a corvette but he will drive it like an F150....he's too control oriented with every facet of his offense. One last thing...Jimbo did not face the aggressive recruiter that Herman is while at FSU (Florida/Miami had nothing like Tom to compete with Jimbo). Hook em...

And when one of those (Miami) started getting better you could see a direct hit when it comes to recruiting.

Yes agreed. This past year Jimbo began to lose on many elite prospects (that he would have landed 2-3 years ago). Miami and Georgia put a threat in his recruiting momentum and sustainability he had control of over the years. Also of note, it will be interesting to see how TX high school coaches respond to his personality and approach. I expect them to have a very good class the next year or two but can he sustain it after 3-4 loss seasons...(outside of the J. Winston years he had many 2-4 loss seasons and underachieved many times if you follow FSU closely)

I like how Herman is keeping the stronghold within the state but also building the national brand up to where it should be (going into FL, CA, LA etc..). When Texas has a few positions that are lacking quality depth for that particular year (most notably the trenches), it's nice to know Herman won't settle and will go outside the state as well for other top players.

OB War Room (From Ketchum)

About five weeks ago, I did an snap shot of the 2019 recruiting class, focusing on the top 13 players in the Rivals rankings. With the release of the 2019 LSR Top 100 this week, I wanted to expand that overview to the top 25 players on the list, all of whom project as four-star prospects and national top 250 candidates. In addition to looking at each prospect's individual recruitment, I thought we'd break things down in the context of the battle royal taking place between Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in 2019 recruiting.

Before diving into the information overload, the breakdown among the top 25 looks like this:

Top 10

Texas leads/Texas commitment: 3
A&M leads/A&M commitment: 2
Oklahoma leads/Oklahoma commitment: 1
Texas vs. OU showdown looms: 1
Too early to draw a strong conclusion: 3

Top 25

Texas leads/Texas commitment: 5
A&M leads/A&M commitment: 3
Oklahoma leads/Oklahoma commitment: 3
Texas vs. OU showdown looms: 1
Too early to draw a strong conclusion: 13

1. Theo Wease (WR - Allen)

qb40494jabvjj5n8f3za

Current recruiting grades:
Rivals (Five-stars/6.1/No.7 on Rivals100)
Has Texas offered: Yes
Where UT Stands:
Wease announced a top seven earlier this week and Texas was nowhere to be found. Oklahoma is believed to be the leader in this recruitment, but USC, Ohio State and Texas A&M all loom as factors moving forward. For now, I've listed him in the "OU leads" department.

Quotable: (Via Rivals on 1/4) "Ohio State, USC and Oklahoma for sure. I'm not sure about others."

(Via Rivals on 10/12) "(Oklahoma and I) are good, I talk to coach Riley almost every day."

(Via Rivals on 9/7) “I would say (Texas is) at about an eight,” he said. “They were contacting me last night and this morning, so they’ve definitely bumped things up.”

(Via OB on 6/15) “You see everybody committing to Texas right now, so that definitely catches my attention. I haven’t visited yet, so I need to visit to see what everyone is seeing, see if I could maybe one day commit there like everyone else is doing.”

2. Garrett Wilson (WR - Lake Travis)

1511656311_b545.jpg

Current recruiting grade:
Rivals (Four-stars/5.9/No.114 in the Rivals250)
Has UT offered: Yes.

Where UT Stands: There's a growing vibe that Texas is the favorite because of its current hometown status and because he's been pretty open about the fact that the Longhorns will have a very prominent role in his recruitment. Wilson is scheduled to visit Texas this weekend and it just feels like if Texas handles its business, Wilson has a chance to serve as an a foundation piece for the class.

Quotable: “That’s one that I’ve been waiting on, I’m not going to lie,” Wilson said of his Texas offer. “Since I’ve started playing football, since moved down here, once they started recruiting me, that was big for me.”

“Ohio State and Texas, they’re probably going toe to toe for me,” Wilson said. “Both are showing they really want me, so that means a lot too. Those are my two home towns, so that goes into as well."

3. Arjei Henderson (WR - Richmond Travis)

ry7p407xkzuytwwee9yf

Current recruiting grade:
Rivals (Five-stars/6.1/No.6 in the Rivals100)
Has UT offered: Yes.

Where UT Stands: Henderson first committed to Oklahoma earlier in the year and then switched his commitment to Oregon when Bob Stoops stepped down at Oklahoma. Two weeks ago, he de-committed from Oregon and announced he would make his decision on signing day in 2019. Earlier this year, Henderson named Texas as his dream school, so the Longhorns are squarely in the mix, but Oklahoma is generally considered to be the new pole sitter. Henderson told Mike Farrell in early January that Texas and Oklahoma are his top two schools.

Quotable: (Via Twitter on 11/12)

I am decommitting from the University Oregon , thank you Eugene , for all your love and support. I will not be making any further decisions regarding my recruitment until signing day . PLEASE RESPECT MY DECISION

(Via OB on 7/27) “It was good to be here in Austin,” Henderson said. “The locker room, facilities and coaching staff were all great, so I’m planning to get back down here pretty soon.

“My favorite part was being around the players and the water balloon fights and all that sort of stuff,” Henderson said.

“I talked to Herman a lot,” Henderson said. “He showed a lot of love and he wants to stay in touch. I talk to him on a daily basis.”
(Via Rivals on 7/18) - “I’m just looking forward to seeing what you see from anybody else,” he said. “I was born and raised in Austin, so that’s my dream school so I’ve always been close with them. I understand how the program works, how everyone is down there and I’m very familiar with the campus.”

4. Kenyon Green (OT - Humble Atascocita)

emvd0r5chpi0hix2e7l3

Current recruiting grade:
Rivals (High Four-stars/6.0/No.26 in Rivals100)
Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Another bare-knuckle brawl that looms in the coming year for the Longhorns. Once committed to LSU, Green's interest in Texas continues to increase, but this will be a battle with a lot of teams fighting for positioning, including Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M. This one is shaping up as one of the most interesting recruitments of the 2019 year.

Quotable: (Via Rivals on 12/18) “LSU still has an opportunity,” he said. “They have been treating me just the same as the other coaches that have been recruiting me. I’m not making this decision because of anything that they did.”

(Via Rivals on 10/26) “(Alabama) was an amazing experience,” he said. “He’s the one that gave me my offer, so that was like one of the best moments. Seeing the campus and where the football players stay was very nice. I think it’s one of the only schools that I’ve seen that has king-sized beds for the players.”

5. Jordan Whittington (Ath - Cuero)

fyqhbwebm7af9ae4nxyj

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (High Four-stars/6.0/No.36 on Rivals250)
Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Texas is probably the school to beat, as he's visited a half-dozen times in the last year and has nearly committed a couple of times, but officially has listed a top six of Texas, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Quotable: (Via Rivals on 7/8) “I’ve been (to Texas) four times since (Tom Herman's) been there, so we’re building a relationship,” he said. “Right now, their tradition and their swagger are really something that stands out to me. They like me at safety, but I would like to see them offer me at receiver because that’s what I want to play in college.” (Note: Texas has since then offered him at receiver.)

6. Roschon Johnson (QB-Port Neches-Groves)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.174 on Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Johnson committed to the Longhorns in July and is locked in as a foundation piece in this class.

Quotable:

7. Brian Williams (DB - Dallas Bishop Dunne)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.52 on Rivals 250)Highlights

Has Texas offered: Yes
Where UT Stands: Williams announced a top six of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Stanford back in September, visited Austin this season on an unofficial visit and seemed to be on his way to being involved in a Texas/Oklahoma battle. Yet, the hire of Jimbo Fisher was a game-changer in his recruitment, as evidenced by the fact that Williams committed to Texas A&M on Sunday.

8. Grant Gunnell (QB - Houston St.Pius)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.63 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: No

Where UT Stands: Gunnell is committed to A&M and Texas isn't expected to be in the mix, as evidenced by the fact that Gunnell currently owns 36 offers, but not one from Tom Herman's staff. The word on the street is that Gunnell is not 100-percent strong in his commitment to the Aggies and I'm expecting his recruitment to open up, but for the moment, he has to be listed as an Aggie on the official scorecard.

9. Demani Richardson (S - Waxahachie)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.82 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands:
Richardson camped at Texas in June, so Tom Herman and Co. have seen him up close and personal, offered in December and were in the gym watching him hoop earlier this week. Texas, Baylor, Georgia and TCU were his primary favorites a month ago, but his offer list is just now starting to explode. For now, I'm going to slot him into the "too close to call" category because he's scheduled to take visits to Texas and Texas A&M in the near future, which should help us with the tea leaves needed to make a legit call.

10. Tyler Johnson (OL- Conroe Oak Ridge)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.64 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: Yes
Where UT Stands:
Johnson's recruitment is just getting heated up, but the Longhorns are one his favorites and will be a major factor in his recruitment. At this point, it's too early to call.

Quotable:
(Via Rivals on 11/2)

On Texas, where he visited for game vs. Oklahoma State

“For me, I think they’re doing pretty well for a rebuilding team,” he said. “They’ve got new coaches, new facility upgrades, new players, and now they’re really coming after the recruits in 2018 and 2019. I’m just seeing a lot of recruits committing - a lot of skill players - but now they’re starting to focus on O-Line and stuff.”

On experience at the game

“It was hot, it was real hot,” he said. “But I liked it - I got to see Coach (Derek) Warehime, I got to meet with Coach (Tom) Herman a little bit. I talked with one of the G.A.’s for the O-Linemen and just really watched how they did their pregame, (Sam) Ehlinger, their O-Line and how they work.”

11. Jalen Catalon - S - Mansfield Legacy

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.163 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: Yes
Where UT Stands:
It's hard to say where things stand with Catalon because he's not as recruiting obsessed as a number of his peers and he hasn't been quite as active on the camp circuits because he's also heavily involved in baseball. It's probably a little too early to make any call because his recruitment is just starting to take shape. Stay tuned for further updates.

12. Marcus Stripling (DE - Mayde Creek)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.90 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands:
The Longhorns were viewed as an early favorite to land the state's top pass-rusher, but in an interview 10 days ago with SoonerScoop.com, he didn't mention the Longhorns once, even while listing a group of schools (Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU and Florida) that stood out to him. In the same interview, he called TCU a big-time program. It's probably too soon to draw any conclusions in his recruitment, but the Longhorns have a lot of work to do.

13. DeMarvin Leal (DE - Converse Judson)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.184 on Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands:
Leal listed an early top five recently that featured Alabama, Clemson, Texas, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. At this stage of the process, he seems completely open-minded and he plans to take his recruitment into the fall. It's way too early to call.
Quotable: (Via Orangebloods last week)

“I’m not sure about visits this spring, but I know I’ll go to a couple places in the fall,” Leal said. “In the fall, that would be Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma state most likely.”

14. Marquez Beason (Ath - Dallas Bishop Lynch)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.83 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Beason has already taken visits to Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Illinois and BYU and plans to take a number of visits in the summer, so don't expect announcement news coming from him any time soon. Last year, he listed Texas as the school he wanted an offer from the most, but this is another recruitment that is too early to call.

15. Cam Brown (WR- Colleyville Heritage)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.148 on Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: The one-time UCLA commit just finished a visit to Notre Dame and seems to be opening up to the idea of keeping all of his options open. He has a tentative top-five that seems to be more than fluid and at this point the Longhorns have not been at the forefront of his recruitment. It's way too early to call.

16. Austin Stonger (TE - Plano Prestonwood)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.97 on Rivals100)

Has Texas offered: No.

Where UT Stands: The Longhorns haven't been very involved with Stonger, who is committed to Oklahoma and seems pretty locked into his pledge.

17. Marcel Brooks (LB - Flower Mound Marcus)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.234 on Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: No
Where UT Stands: Texas isn't a factor at this point, as Brooks currently lists Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and (he's pretty sure) Penn State on official visits in the spring. It's too early to call, but this isn't a recruitment that I expect many around here to pay much attention to.

18. Jalen Curry (WR - Houston St. Pius)
Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Mid Four-stars/5.9/No.57 in Rivals250)
Has Texas offered: No.

Where UT Stands: Curry, who was once committed to Florida State, is trending in A&M's direction at this point, although he wants to take possible visits to the likes of LSU, Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Arkansas. The Aggies get the check mark from this vantage point at this stage of his recruitment.

19. Grant Tisdale (QB - Allen)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.206 in Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: No.

Where UT Stands: Would have an interest in the Longhorns if they were to offer and make a hard sell on his future at quarterback, but this one seems pretty open at the moment, even as he prepares to schedule spring official visits and make an early decision. Too early to call.

20. Erick Young (CB - Richmond Bush)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.178 in Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Has named Texas A&M, TCU and LSU as his top three in the last month and there are some thoughts that the school in the pole position for his signature is Texas A&M, in part because of his feelings for Jimbo Fisher. That being said, the offers have been pouring in over the course of the last month as the likes of Texas, Oklahoma and Notre Dame have all offered in the last few weeks. This one could easily be an "Aggie leads" check mark, but I'm going to put it in the "too early to call" category.

21. Bobby Wolfe (CB - Houston Madison)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (High Three-stars/5.7/No.45 in Texas)
Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Wolfe has a strong interest in Texas, Texas A&M and LSU. It might be too early to call one a sure-fire favorite over the others because he really does speak of all three in glowing terms and each program has players in the program that he considers to be friends. It's too early to call.

22. EJ Ndoma-Ogar (OL - Allen)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.197 in Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Has incredibly positive things to say about Herb Hand and the Longhorns in general, but it's too early to know if they'll make enough headway to emerge as a favorite. At the moment, it feels like it's "too early to call" and Texas is in the mix with an assortment of teams, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and a few others.

23. Branson Bragg (OL - Crandall)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low Four-stars/5.8/No.221 in Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Really like the Longhorns and Tom Herman's crew might be a betting favorite, but do not sleep on Stanford. According to Suchomel, he's hearing the Cardinal will be a tough competitor in this race, but for now we'll list the Longhorns as a favorite.

24. Elijah Higgins (WR-Austin Bowie)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (High three-stars/5.7/No.51 in Texas)
Has Texas offered: Yes

Where UT Stands: Higgins has gone from a guy with a pretty low profile to recruiting sensation almost overnight, with offers from Texas, Texas A&M and Ohio State in just the last few days. There are those with some insight into his recruitment that believe the offer from Texas will be very hard for Higgins to turn down.

25. Isaiah Spiller (RB - Klein Collins)

Current recruiting grade: Rivals (Low four-stars/5.8/No.162 in Rivals250)

Has Texas offered: No

Where UT Stands: Spiller, who is the son of former Texas A&M player Fred Spiller (a recruit I once covered), committed to the Sooners in November. Nothing about this situation screams future Longhorn at all.

WRs are overrated in general. don't get me wrong-- they're nice to have, but as evidenced by the fact that there are about 32 on this list of 25, you can find one hanging out at stripes if you need to. who was vince's top target? billy carter? david thomas? colt had shipley and quan but the word is jaxson was a better player than jordan; the pieces around him just didn't allow him to show it. i believe that is possible-- look at christian kirk; what a waste of talent that was over there. give me the linemen, linebackers and cover guys. but most of all, get me the quarterback. if you have the right qb, the wr position will take care of itself.
