Basketball

So did I ever tell anyone how great Jokic is? Lol. The ork is incredible. Love seeing the Lambeer haters. He was to the NBA as the enforcers are to the NHL. His job was just to piss people off. Apparently he was successful.
No he wasn't the equivalent to an NHL enforcer. That was 80's and 90's basketball. Everyone was doing that sort of thing. That comment makes it seem like all you did was watch Bad Boys highlights from the 80s. Laimbeer would defend, rebound, pass, and he was like a career 35% 3pt shooter. You could argue that he would have been even better in the modern NBA. But he isn't even close to top 100. Rick Smits had similar numbers in the same era. The big difference between the two in Laimbeer has the 2 rings from the pistons. No one is saying Rick Smits is a borderline top 100 player.

Jokic just had 4 Tipple doubles in 5 games. That is Wilt Chamberlain territory. He averaged 24.5, 12.5 and 9.8 this season and he did that averaging 14 shots a game. If he keeps up this production for another 5-7 years he will be in the Wilt, Kareem, Hakeem conversation as one of the best all time.

Actually I don’t watch NBA unless the Rockets or Mavericks are in the playoffs. But I was watching some of his (Jokic’s) highlights. He’s on a run like Dirk had for a few years.

Looks like Ron Holland is going to the g league. Texas probably told him look If you’re playing college basketball it’s going to be at Texas or not at all. As they should have.

And the even crazier thing about Jokic is that he was pick 41 in the 2nd round. Talk about finding a diamond in the rough. He got robbed of the MVP this year. It should have been his 3rd straight.

Draymond is an 8x All NBA player (4x 1st team, 4x 2nd team). He's also got a defensive player of the year award. He's also made 2 All NBA teams. He's got the accolades.

A lot of this has to do with the fact that the Center position is as weak as it has ever been in the NBA. Draymond is highly overrated all time, but definitely one of the best in his era. Not saying much.

Laimbeer is around 300th in PER all time. He was an above average player that knew what he was good at and committed to his role to help the overall team. While noble, I don't think we need to make him out to be more than that. Also, he was much more than a goon/enforcer as has been stated.

And everytime he got in a fight he got his as* kicked. Charles Barkley, Bob Lanier, Kareem, the list is long.

It's only happened twice in sports. But a team down 3 to 0 usually loses the series. But the Celtics just might be the third team to do it. In the second half the heat finally looked like the 8th seeded team they are.

Maybe

In today's game though it's pretty much a positionless game. A lot of guys who are playing the 4 now would have been a center back in the 80's and 90's. Guys like Giannis, Anthony Davis, KAT, Sabonis all would have been considered centers back in the day. But in today's game they are playing the 4 because of their versatility to play out both on the perimeter, and in the post area.

I must say that I like Terry more and more. He is prioritizing winning and experience over the one and done player. I have been for this for some time. Hopefully, he can put an experienced team on the court and win. Texas NIL should be able to grab proven guys out of the portal every year. In addition, recruiting excellent role players will be a thing going forward as well. It's about time we push these one and done guys to the g league or to teams where the "growing pains" are experienced by the other teams we defeat.

And why the game sucks ass now.

People think a "7 footer shooting 3s" is the greatest thing ever.

I'll take Dream and his post moves over watching Giannis fumble around on the perimeter any day.

Shaq wrecked most guys during his career. There were a few centers that could body him and give him some trouble. But today- he'd be averaging 50 a game if he could shoot 75% from the line.

I guess i'm in the minority. I enjoy the perimeter game and watching 7 footers having to come out to the 3 point line to defend. And Giannis is more than capable of banging around down on the block if he wants to. Seen him do a lot.

Shaq would be no different if he played in this era. He'd still be dominant.

Basketball has changed to the point that the 3 point shot has taken over basketball. Even centers can shoot a 3 pointer. So when a team like the warriors falls behind by 20 with 4 minutes they still have a chance. You can't succeed in today's NBA without a 3 point game

For those reasons right there is exactly why I enjoy today's game. Used to if you were down 20 in the 2nd half that was a wrap. Now teams can cut a 20 point deficit down in a matter of minutes. It also challenges defenders more to have to come out to 30 feet and defend a guy.

I'm at l awed by how fast the warriors pass the ball around they pass more than any team in the nba. And no there's no way a defense can stop it.

It also unclogs the lane.

To me, it's like watching a new born colt on ice. It's just so awkward. I like seeing them banging away down there.

So agreed clob. Shaq was extremely nimble and athletic even through his early Laker years.

New fans think guys like Shaq and Dream couldn't run the floor or handle the rock. They're dead ass wrong. They didn't need to do that stuff, but they could. Because most PGs were what they were supposed to be...getting the ball to the big men that can score.

I think most of the great centers would have been great in today's game. Russ, Wilt, Kareem, Bill Walton, Wes Unseld, and others were great passers as well as scorers and rebounders. Russ may have been the greatest defender in NBA history.

Yep 100%. Look at the NCAA tournament and the teams that made runs. There weren’t too many 1 and done guys in that group, and the ones that were were not the “main guys”. It’s too bad Ron Holland didn’t want to play here. The team was set up for him to thrive.

If you watch his highlights from LSU you get a really good of an idea of how freakishly athletic he really was. He could run the floor with the best of them and had the ability to bring the ball up court as well. His game kind of shifted once he got to LA but he's one of the most dominant players of all time if not the most dominant.

Russell was 6-10 with a 7-4 wingspan. And very athletic. He would've been just fine in today's game.

Wilt was 7-1 with a 7-8 wingspan that ran track in college and lifted weights with Arnold. Freak athlete that would've dominated today

Kareem was 7-2 with over an 8' wingspan LOLOLOL. Blackbelt and trained with Bruce Lee. He would've been just fine in today's game, lol.

Unseld was strong as shit. He would be a PF or SF in today's game and would have zero problem dealing with the likes of Draymond. In fact, he would probably twist his ass into a pretzel and kick him in the garbage can.

Kareem said the first time he played against Unseld it was getting hit by a truck. Said he pushed him anywhere he wanted. He could make those full court chest high passes that were a thing of beauty. He and Wilt were the only rookies to win MVP

The physicality has changed as well. Go back and watch the Bulls/Jordan documentary "The Last Dance" and look at how physical those teams were.
They beat the living sh!t out of each other.
That doesn't happen in today's game. Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, Ewing, Rodman, Barkley- there were just some mean ass mother fvckers in the league back then that played physical ball. These poor kids today would be beaten to a pulp.

Kevin Willis too. All them old school elbow throwin rebound specialists. Terry Cummings, Dale Davis, Derrick Coleman.

Kevin McHale was another super underrated all time great. Dude had moves for days and an 8' wingspan.

Draymond has a things about kicking another player in the balls. If he'd have tried that on Unseld he would have been humiliated enough to ruin his career.

I mentioned this above but the Celtics have come from being down 3/0 to 3/2 and they're leading at halftime in game 6.

It's not over.

** Weekend update**

Apparently the heat hit a 3 free throws with 3 seconds to go up by 1.

Damn a tip in at the buzzer and now it's 3/3 and game 7 is Monday night.
