Or maybe they just want to live their lives without being persecuted. It's not some PC agenda they're trying to shove down everyone's throats. They're not demanding that the majority give up their beliefs. Just mind your own damn business and they don't want to add people that aren't going to do that. It's not the same as a ban on hetero couples having sex btw. Hetero couples are at least allowed to touch each other at BYU.
Just some thoughts that won't convince anyone of anything I'm sure.
Scholz now not all of that is true. Hetero couples, unless they are married, will be kicked out of school for sexual contact. That's a fact. BYU allows zero sexual contact out of wedlock.
But you're missing my point--- my point is, there are 5000 other extreme groups out there that kill, maime, overtly harass, and openly persecute members of the gay community. The last time I checked, the Mormons weren't "hurting" anyone from that community.
And the Big 12, as an organization, should not cow tow to groups that try and dictate academic and athletic endeavors especially if those they are targeting have zero history of violence toward them. This is a "pick your battles" issue and I can think of much more deserving and justified battles for the gay community to focus on. Also, when activist groups start targeting communities that don't need to be targeted, and give a pass to other communities that SHOULD be targeted (or religions in this case) They lose a certain amount of credibility.
Of the Big 12 sees fit to add BYU to its conference, that is an academic, athletic and financial decision. If BYU had a history of persecuting or openly discriminating against the gay community, then I'd say "ya, we dont want BYU"---- but they don't. Like you said, Mormons are nice folks and I see it as ridiculous that the LGBT community would choose to target them. I see it as grandstanding and honestly, I'm disappointed in them for their show of apparent hubris. Don't fight this battle, fight the fights that need fighting.
