i dunno. i think i'll trust the guy that took the sand aggies all the way to the national title game. i'll trust the virginia team that beat them. i'll trust last year's national champions and this year's #1 team in the nation. i like hoiberg and musselman and all those guys too, but chris beard is doing a great job thus far. i'm gonna give him more than 14 games to draw ANY negative conclusions.

Beard took a team to the national championship with that exact model of a team but ok…. I get a feeling you have something against Beard. For what he had to work with when he was hired last year I would say he put together a pretty good team on the fly. Going to take more than 14 games to build something here.
Agreed. It's going to be impossible to for any team to go undefeated in the B12 conference. Even Baylor and KU will lose a game or two. Conference basketball is similar to conference baseball. Sometimes you're just off and things don't work out. OSU made some tough shots so give them credit. They struggled too on offense because of our D. Our D was good but we couldn't get some shots to go down. OSU is also a good defensive team so we needed to play a sharp game and we were without Tre Mitchell so that left us without one of our few reliable scorers. Giving up 61 points usually will get you a win. We also turned the ball over more than we usually do and that led to some key easy fast break baskets for OSU. Despite our struggles we were still in position to steal the win on the road with about 3 minutes left being down by only 1. We turn the ball over and they get a three on the other end for a 5 point swing. It happens sometimes in a long season. The main thing I look for is steady improvement over the course of the season and leading into the tournament. I think we're in a good position with the way our defense has consistently showed up.
Beard is doing just fine. The difference with Beard and other elite coaches is they focus so heavily on the defensive end. The reason is simple....defense is what gets you far into the tournament. Defense overcomes so many weaknesses you may have offensively. Defense wins championships.
@KChorn11 - go on record. What would you call a successful year this year, and what would you call a failure? As another poster put it - no one has gone undefeated since 1976. A look through the years will find a few champions with double digit losses. To say I told you so over a road loss in a rugged conference is a little unfair - even Rick Barnes had 7 losses the year of his Final 4 appearance.
I'll go on record - not making the tournament is a failure. One and done in the tournament is a disappointment. Winning one tournament game is acceptable, and anything more than that is a tremendous success. Beard came in and built a roster literally from scratch. Over time, with the chance to enjoy full recruiting cycles, his defense first philosophy will serve him well, and he will build a program that year in and year out will win contend for Sweet 16 status. Catch lightning in a bottle or land a transcendant player, and he will get them to the Final 4. We will look back in 10 years and say he was a good hire.

Really nice bounce back game after that disaster in Stillwater. Good to see Jones come alive a bit. If this offense is going to get going he’s probably the guy that’s gonna have to do it.

Sound defense in bball will give you a chance when the shots aren't dropping. Live by offense, die by offense. You can't have an off night without sound D. Give them time to develope and/or recruit the right pieces and all will be good brotha. I think we're on the right track.

dude, i get it. every time we lose, you're gonna say "i told ya so". i'm gonna give this away. you're going to get to say that probably 3-4 more times in conference play. this is a really good conference.
now... to your point, if the other team is shooting the ball well, you're screwed. well, yeah. but the whole point of emphasizing defense is to make it as hard as possible for the other team to get good shots, thus minimizing their chances of shooting it well. it's harder to get on a roll if you're being defended well. but even if you are the best defensive team in the nation, the other team will score. i've never seen a shutout in basketball beyond the jv girls level.
turnovers beat us. not defense. timmy also had foul issues. but 2 weeks into conference and nobody is unbeaten. guess we were all built for failure.
The Big 12 is a gauntlet for basketball. The conference champions are likely to have 4-5 conference losses. The goal is to win your home games and steal a few road wins. Fortunately, in college basketball the conference play is purely for tournament seeding. The Big 12 will have 6-8 teams make the tournament which is insane. We’ll be in the tournament. Beards success will be measured by how well we do in the tournament. That’s how he built his resume.
We just lost to the last place team in conference at home. We are going to struggle unless something changes.
Boys get out to 11-0 start against Ok state. Then turn the ball over 4 straight times give up an 8-0 run and it’s 13-8. The schedule is about to get a lot tougher. Idk if it will ever come together for this squad. Beard doesn’t appear to have any answers

Ya, it's bad. They are second guessing and playing scared. They need to relax and play.
I think it’s Beard’s coaching style. He puts so much emphasis on defense that he makes every offensive possession so tense and they just don’t play free and easy. In the past when the offense was struggling one of the athletes Simms, or Kai Jones, etc would get a dunk to kind of energize things. They don’t have that athlete to do that. So when it gets stale it’s really bad
If this team can make the tournament and get a win, the season is a success. Some would say a disappointment, but that would be better than anything Shaka gave us. Beard needs time to build the roster to get what he needs. What he has done through the portal compared to what he inherited is still amazing. He had nothing.
I wouldn’t classify anything Beard has done as amazing. In college basketball a lot of teams turnover a good portion of their roster every year. Just kind of the way the game works. I think Chris beard would even admit he hasn’t done a very good job.
I think Chris Beard is a good coach, but I think In large part fans will become disappointed. I think his celling is peak Rick Barnes. Certainly not bad but not great either.
