CUMBIE IS IN AUSTIN

Man that movie was hilarious.
"Bark like a dog"
"The royal penis is clean your Highness"
"Now let's see if you can defend yourself, you sweat from a baboon's balls"
"Give a hand to my band, Sexual Chocolate"

Look, the best Eddie Murphy et al movie was "Harlem Nights"............
Tell me I'm wrong bro.

I wouldn't believe anything (saban rumors still haunt me) until you see it in the newspaper and on espn haha. But I have a good feeling.

IF we get Cumbie (and my pessimism is high now just so I don't get disappointed) and IF we are able to get Jenks and Thomsen then the sky is the limit, especially with recruiting. Here's why:
Traylor - well respected among Tx HS coaches - East Texas area
Cumbie - well respected and liked by Tx HS coaches - Dallas area
Jenks - well respected and like by Tx HS coaches - San Antonio area
Thomsen - well respected and liked by Tx HS coaches - West Texas area

we just need to find someone to cover the Houston area or if Norvell stays assign him that area - if all of this comes true then we will not be lacking in talent and should be getting top 10 classes every year again.

Report that TCU would name Cumbie HC in waiting. Kind of weird because Meachum is also staying there? Hmm...

That does seem weird. Doesn't really help cumbie out either. It's not like Patterson us retiring next year or even in 5 years. Cumbie comes here and does well he could be a HC as soon as the 2018 season.

Agreed, Patterson has to sweet of a deal to be going anywhere anytime soon. I could see Meachum leaving and the lure of staying one more year to be the OC. But why wait? Why not take a huge raise, add UT to the resume, and potentially turn UT's offense around and make yourself one of the hottest names in football!

Anwar at OB said no decision yet and that Cumbie has concerns about being in such a big spotlight at Texas.

If this is true and he has concerns about being in the spotlight I say go get Gilbert!

Clob is going to give you all 'the shocker' is what he means.
Seriously though, the Texas OC position is in a state of flux right now. I am sure Cumbie et al are looking at the position and being told by Patterson et al that they have 1 year to win 8 games plus or Strong will be gone. I am sure that is probably the hold up on Cumbie's part. It would be on mine. I think if Texas had a better QB situation then it may be an easier decision for an OC to make that commitment imo.

HCIW doesn't make any sense if there is no end in sight to your current HCs reign. It does nothing for either party. Meacham will inevitably leave and likely sooner rather than later. I could see TCU upping his current salary and guaranteeing him the OC position once Meacham does leave. Maybe Meacham has already told TCU that he plans to leave next year. That may be enough to keep him there if he knows he'll be the OC in a year.

There is no doubt that TCU is more stable than UT right now.

You would wait because as of today TCU is way more stable and an easier path to success. From his point of view he can open HC doors (if that's the path he wants) as TCU's OC so there may not be a reason to change (other than money).

While you are guaranteeing yourself up for a nice pay day, the UT OC job has it's risks. He'll still get paid, but he may not be the Texas OC long given the unstable HC situation. He'd end up somewhere but who knows where? That uncertainty has it's price.

Belldozer----- funny guy. I have a family member (by marriage not by blood) that lives in Nashville whose family donated an a$$ ton of money to TCU and we have a good relationship based mostly on us giving each other a hard time. We are always cracking jokes at the other's expense and what not. Well the patriarch of his family is very much involved in all things TCU and he has never given me a reason to not believe him----- HOWEVER, I think he's having a bit of fun at my expense right now. The text messages this morning started off real serious on his part--- and as we went on I could tell by his verbage that he was playing cat an mouse with me for his own amusement.

H- "hey cuz have you heard?"
C- "I heard you like in the a$$. What's up?"
H- "you guys made a ridiculous offer to Sonny"
C- "Did you expect anything less??"
H- "ya but that's just insane"
C- "I've only heard chatter-- no numbers--- you?"
H- "just that it was big $$"
C- "gotta do what we gotta do"
H- "too bad"
C- "wtf? too bad what"
(10 minutes goes by of silence and then I start to realize he may be having fun with me) Prior to the 10 minutes I posted the "be ready for a shocker" post only to have dead air come from him.

C- "hello???"
H- "Hey _______ (his wife) wants to know what you guys are doing for Xmas- how's your new niece btw"
C- "Dude---- are you serious?"
H- "Ya, we were thinking about doing Xmas in Texas and wanted to know the fams plans"
C- "Hey, cut that sh!t out and tell me what's up"
H- "Huh? what are you talking about? Wanted to make Xmas plans"
C- "Dude-- you're pissing me off and I will give you a beating---- seriously"
H- "gotta run, conference call"
C- "DICK!"

So that's where I am at. I know he knows something-- family is VERY involved with TCU. Mother fvcker is having his little giggle knowing he's holding out on me---- or he could just be bluffing--- but like I said, he's never lied to me about stuff in the past. So I'm pretty sure he has SOME idea of what's up. I am going to curb stomp his a$$ though if he does come to Texas for Xmas--- Metcalf you can referee.

Cumbie was supposed to meet with Patterson this morning. So I guess we"ll know soon.

TCU looks more stable in the present. Who knows what the landscape would look like by the time Cumbie got ahold of it. We're talking 5-6 years down the road easy. 5-6 years ago TCU was in the mountain west and teams were trying to get Patterson from the mid major. A lot can change.

Most definitely, but like I said depending on the person all that uncertainty has it's price. Things can change for better or worse. It's no given that TCU will stay at this level, nor is it a given that Texas will be at the top in a few years. The what if game goes both ways.

I'm mainly playing devil's advocate. I think we should be able to hire another teams QB coach as our OC, but there are issues present that would give me pause if I were in his shoes.

Both of the coaches, especially the ASU coach, would be home run hires!

Question from an outsider without a horse in this race--

I get why Cumbie would take the Texas job.More money. A three year contract. A chance to call plays. A career maker if he gets Texas rolling on offense.

What I don't get is why an established coach from a stable program would come along for the ride. Take ASU's O line coach, for example. Chris Thompsen is assistant head coach and O Line coach at ASU, making north of 300k. ASU's HC is not on the hot seat, so the probability of longer term employment for his assistants is high. That's definitely not the case at Texas. Strong could be out in a year, and his staff with him.

I guess a big bump in salary, more responsibility/title, and a multi year contract might be attractive...but would UT offer a position coach those kinds of perks?

If it works out, I agree it would be a great package of employees. Just curious to know your thoughts about why guys from TT and ASU would jump ship for what might be temporary employment?

More pay / prestige would be a big part. Coaching in your home state would be a factor as well. Your point about stability is valid, but still position coaches are discarded like playing cards. Even if your coach isn't on the hot seat position coaches are shuffled around constantly. Not to mention it's just the natural order of things the more success you have on your resume the better.

Thanks. I forgot that Thomsen is from Texas. Coming home is always an incentive.

One source is from TCU. Another is from inside our Texas program.

You don't have any sources. Cumbie is a 50/50 proposition so you could ultimately be right, but you aren't hearing from jack shit. You have sources inside the program, but it's the possible hiring of Cumbie that has made you speak up? You realize that this Cumbie situation isn't even a blip on the radar as to what's been going down the past few years.

I'll put my sources up against anyone. He's not coming. How about this? If he does, I will no longer post. If he doesn't come, how about you no longer post?
