Domestic Travel Ban?

Vice President Pence was asked if there will be travel restrictions coming within the U-S and he did not rule out the possibility.

Vice President Pence
"We're considering a broad range of measures but no decisions have been made yet."

Cutting off flights within the U-S could have an even bigger impact on the economy than the European travel ban (which is being expanded to include the UK and Ireland, beginning Monday).
I traveled last week - airlines are already affected due to changes in travel policies by many companies. Also canceled my travel for next week.

Your hatred is making you look foolish
We have an unbelievably low infection rare that doesn't warrant some of the crap we are doing out of paranoia.

And Obama's input was as worthless as his advice to fight the energy crisis by saying everyone should inflate their tires properly. But what would you expect from someone a mile long and an inch deep.

What's your news source(s)? Serious question.

Not sure how anyone can objectively look at the last 4 to 5 weeks and not see an unmitigated disaster in how it was handled.

How to handle, ten days ago:

How not to handle, Five days ago.
Trump has been a stream of inaccuracies from day 1. Evaluating his own words, and BTW he has the best words, he's the embodiment of the fake news he rails against.

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”

March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine-tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9: “This blindsided the world.”

March 13 Trump declares a national emergency to deal with coronavirus.

yep if he did it earlier morons would bitch about him overreacting. It’s how they do.

How much time did you spend in the coronavirus thread that started on Jan. 25th? People, including me, were showing serious concern more than a month ago.

This would result in tens of thousands of business failures and tens of millions of unemployed Americans. It would create a situation as bad as or worse than the Great Depression.

Suggesting that everything just shut down for 3 weeks is a tell tale sign that you don’t have employees, who have families, that you are responsible for.

Remember what we are talking about here. The mortality rate is likely closer to .05% than 5%.

I actually own a business and this shit has been keeping me up at night for about a week. I’ve started implementing plans to ensure that my employees are taken care of to the best of my ability.

Thanks for your input tho

It amazing how many people believe a single government official is somehow responsible for stopping a virus. Today's culture of finger pointing and lack of personal accountability is toxic.

You don't need the President to tell you not to get on damn plane. Be an adult.

(I would make the same statements about any standing officials, btw. Dem or Rep. Astonishing how our culture has turned into a bunch of infants expecting everything to be done for them. )

This assumes the leader of a country has little bearing on how the country responds and behaves. I'm not a fan of Bush 2, but this (video below) was a defining moment and he deserves a ton of credit for making Americans feel better that day.

The current guy, not so much.

Y’all should elect me in 2024.

How can you think shutting down for 3 weeks is a good idea? There is no scenario where every single business just hits pause for 3 weeks. Refiners would start sourcing from Mexico or whoever cheats and stays open. The same would be true across the spectrum. You would lose your market share even if you had the cash to stay viable.

I’m missing the part where I said it was a good idea? All I said is it seems like that’s the direction it’s going in and if that’s the case then just rip the damn bandaid off and do it...I said nothing about it being a good or bad idea.

This entire thing sucks.

Of course. and the morons who blindly support everything he does would call it brilliant.

like I posted yesterday - I live one this crazy world where I’m one of about 3 people who aren’t completely in the tank for one side or the other. It’s remarkable that folks can’t objectively critique their own “side’s” failures.
You realize we don’t live in a country where the president has total power right? He can’t just do whatever he sees fit his goal was to keep panic down so the economy didn’t crash.

Just doesn’t seem like a reasonable response to what is ostensibly a light flu. It would be more reasonable to let everyone get it than destroy millions of jobs and thousands upon thousands of businesses.

Have to agree here...what the hell are we waiting on exactly. Do we need to actually see hospitals overrun with patients and out of supplies before we actually shut down social interaction?
No hospitals overrun yet. Don’t suspect they will. This is not Ebola

You’re absolutely wrong!

That current data, not news. Looking for something more like this -

France orders non-essential public places to close

And this one REALLY gets your attention, right? 50% of people in ICU are under 60 years old.

What the obtuse don't realize is that things in nature change, and can do so rapidly. And that scientists tend to be the best at projecting these changes.

Things like this will speed up the decision making process.

Spirit flight 162.

Emergency responders transferred a passenger to the hospital immediately after landing on Spirit flight 162 from Fort Lauderdale to Hartford early this afternoon. Spirit pilots notified authorities following reports the passenger exhibited cold-like symptoms during the flight. As a precaution, the passenger will be monitored and undergo testing. Public health authorities will handle any future notifications following testing, if necessary. The plane is undergoing enhanced cleaning and disinfectant procedures per CDC and local airport authority guidelines. The safety or our Guests and our Team Members is our top priority. As a reminder, we urge any Guests not to fly if they are feeling ill.
Poors love Spirit Airlines. It’s like riding a greyhound bus.

No hospitals overrun yet. Don’t suspect they will. This is not Ebola

certain areas will absolutely have their health care infrastructure overrun. we wont know if the measures we take will impact the future for another 10 days.

Well you’ve been a clown this whole time so the fact this is even being considered by trump (with all the other things done so far ) should tell you things are more serious than a cold

cases in Italy still exploding and we are about 10-15 days behind them per the experts

Spain going on lockdown today. France being locked down

I’m not saying he handled it well. I’m saying people who act like these types of decisions are easy are out of their mind. Keep your politics aside. No matter who is in charge, these decisions are incredibly difficult.

this impacts all services we take for granted. police forces (already happening in denver) might not respond to all low level crime calls.... hospitals will likely cancel elective procedures...store inventories wont be restocked.. etc... etc.... etc.

What will people say when the election needs to be postponed or cancelled?

how exactly do you cancel a presidential election? Trump just automatically serves another term because? Can you imagine the riots and unrest if people aren’t allowed to vote?

Hundreds of old people confined in small spaces all repeatedly touching the same machines just seems like a recipe for disaster.

i bet this because a big talking point in 30 days if this doesnt improve. online voting? not sure we have the people to roll that out in time.... or ways to verify the votes/voters. how does the constitution address a matter like this?
