I think it had something to do with it but I think their offense was a bigger reason they were so good. In 03 they weren’t even in the top 15 in total defense. 04 they were really good though finishing 3rd. You don’t have to have an elite defense to win championships in todays football. Teams now are winning more with offense than they are defense minus last year with Georgia.

LV I apologize for some of my Texas brothers. They are not aware that prior to June 7, 2017, LR had zero interaction with the ou program, the coaching of ou QBs/Offense, and recruitment of ou QBs. It is unfair to give him any credit for any success prior to that date.

USC is playing very well and Caleb the player he was for OU in 4 of his 8 games last year. Lost two he did not perform well in and survived two others (KU and Iowa State). Has some great receivers at USC. But other Pac12 teams, including Oregon State and UW, looking pretty salty. And the OU D is much better compared to last year.

Those people will collectively tell you that James Mayfield and Baker Mayfield act a lot alike.

What years did your dad play? I worked with a guy named Gene Hernandez, he played in the 70's as a db for TCU and got drafted maybe by the Redskins? He had good size for back then, about 6'2" 200lbs
