It's been just over a year since Du Plessis deposed Strickland from his middleweight throne in Toronto, with Stillknocks getting the benefit of a split decision to become South Africa's first-ever UFC champion. Since then, he tapped out former champ Israel Adesanya, but a rematch with Strickland was always going to be on the cards.

Du Plessis (22-2) beat Strickland (29-6) to win the UFC middleweight title. The former kickboxing champion won gold after beating Strickland, Robert Whittaker, and Israel Adesanya. Competing in Australia for the second straight fight, Du Plessis is ready to hold onto middleweight supremacy.

Stickland lost the fight, though scorecards were all over the place. There wasn't a sense of urgency in the bout, and he got cut with a headbutt in round four. The controversial fighter looks for a new game plan on fight night.

The Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney will hold great memories for Tarzan. That's where he got his first taste of UFC gold, defeating Adesanya for that middleweight belt. The Californian is rarely short of a controversial soundbite, but he'll want to do his talking in the Pentagon today.

Unbeaten in his past 10 fights and with a perfect 8-0 record in the UFC, Du Plessis has earned a reputation as one of the most feared middleweights on the planet. The South African is now seeking to silence any doubters by securing a definitive victory over Strickland, the man he beat via split decision to win the middleweight title 13 months ago.

The 31-year-old will certainly be full of confidence after inflicting a first-career submission loss on former UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya last time out. Strickland has also fought once since the first bout, but was far less impressive as he secured a split-decision victory over Paulo Costa.

The co-main event will see Zhang Weili vs. Tatiana Suarez for the UFC strawweight title. It is Zhang's (25-3) first fight since April 2024. She is on a four-fight win streak and looks to defend the title for the third time in her second reign.

Local Australian talent is well-represented on the prelim card, with Jack Jenkins and Tom Nolan looking to defend their home turf. The women's flyweight bout between Wang Cong and Bruna Brasil is particularly intriguing, as Wang aims to bounce back from her recent loss to Gabriella Fernandes.

The prelims serve as the perfect lead-in to the pay-per-view main card, which features two championship bouts including the middleweight title rematch between Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland.

Before the duo renew hostilities, there will be a packed card that includes Zhang Weili taking on Tatiana Suarez in the co-main event. Strawweight queen Zhang has earned four straight wins and has made consecutive title defences since reclaiming the belt towards the end of 2023.

The Chinese star will bid to remain top of the strawweight division but will face a tough challenge against American challenger Suarez who finally has the chance to challenge for UFC gold. The 34-year-old has a 10-0 record and has won her last two fights by submission.

The finale bout is preceded immediately by Zhang Weili vs Tatiana Suarez, with the former Ultimate Fighter winner hoping to add further to her impressive resume.
