Here is my 3 doable plan B coaches

I'd like to get one of the top 5 baddest assistants(provided that he's a good recruiter too) in the country and support him with a killer staff. It's worked for numerous other schools including our arch rival. Just find the right guy. This is where expertise in picking coaches comes in. Do we have that?

I would be happy with any of

Cristobal
PJ Fleck
Matt Campbell.

Home Run Hires:

Kyle Shanahan - Has Texas ties, young, offensive minded. Everything that Lincoln Riley is but with Pro experience. Offer him 10 years 120 Million

Matt Rhule - Coached in the Big 12, won in the big 12 has pro experience

Dan Mullen - From the SEC and from the Urban Meyer coaching tree, although that does worry me.

As I sit here and think about Kyle Shanahan is the guy I go after and throw a bigger salary than I did at Meyer.

That would have been Cristobal up until the time he left Alabama.

If you believe the leaks that the BMDs aren’t interested in paying a big buyout for any coach other than a “sure thing” (Meyer, Dabo, et al), AND you believe that Herman must go, than the only logical next step is to fire Herman ($15m) and hire a replacement that doesn’t require a big buyout

In other words an unproven HC from a lower tier program or an assistant coach who doesn’t have a big buyout (Sarkisian, Elliott, etc).

Well what do you want to do.... Just shut the program down? Because the people who fill your wish list aren't available.
+1. Half this board is clueless. There are no sure things outside of 3-4 and only one available just said no.

maybe hire a good coach and ensure he’s got a good staff lined up or he doesn’t get the job (and not bring all of his assistants). He or staff Needs to have a reputation as a damn good recruiter.

half of the problem with Texas fans are that unless we got Urban, anyone else didn’t “excite them” or would be considered a failure...our fan base is a bunch of entitled babies at times when for the last 40 plus years, outside of a couple Akers years and really only 5-6 Mack years, Texas has been a non factor on the national scene....again Texas wants to be Stanford M-F and Bama on Saturdays except they only put the maximum effort on the first part.

Stop with the ****ing Kyle Shanahan shit already. How many times does he have to say that he has ZERO interest in coaching in college?

Guy is 51-56 no thanks
He was at FIU for a good portion of that. SMH. Fickell is 34-13 at Cincy including 30-5 the last 2+ seasons. He’s a damn good recruiter who has the one G5 school that actually recruits like a P5 (something UCF with more success and better recruiting area can’t say). Bet he doesn’t check boxes either for you.

Texas needs a massive improvement in recruiting - Cristobal can do that. He also has no QB at Oregon this year. Remember he won Rose Bowl with not his players and has had 2 big recruiting classes now. They will be really good next year

At this point, if we are still committed to making a change, which I’m not sure is the case, you do a search. Thoroughly.

Not just names we are familiar with, but someone who understands the program and the culture. Mack was the best at this. The culture may have changed a little bit, but there will be someone out there who fits. Search firm can help, but should not be the only ones doing work.

One thing Deloss Dodds had going for him is he had been here like 15 years, through some strong years and lean years in football (and basketball). He was a businessman, but also understood the environment.

I think it also helps that he wasn’t a football guy by trade. I think that allowed him to evaluate things a little more critically.

CDC will have to put in some work, and lean heavily on a number of sources. And say what you want about Plonsky, but she should have some input here too.

Care to elaborate? I see a guy that changed everything in Minnesota. And is competing with inferior talent in the big 10.
He took over a Minnesota program that won 9 games year before he arrived and immediately went backwards. He’s had one magical season...one in which he started 8-0 beating FCS schools and 7 other duds and only one of 8 finished with .500 record. He beat Penn St last year so his rah rah act got some pub. He’s 2-3 this year with a loss to a horrible Michigan team and he really should be 1-4 as Purdue had a TD called back on one of the worst offensive PIs you’ll ever see in closing seconds.

he’s a fraud
