Here is my 3 doable plan B coaches

You have to make the top dogs say no (behind the scenes please no more embarrassment). Saban, Swinney, etc. then see if Peterson will
Jump back in or talk to NFL coaches. If we can’t get a true blue chip that tells volumes. No to Sarkisian. Texas spotlight is too bright and stress too much for his baggage (for his own good)

I'd like to get one of the top 5 baddest assistants(provided that he's a good recruiter too) in the country and support him with a killer staff. It's worked for numerous other schools including our arch rival. Just find the right guy. This is where expertise in picking coaches comes in. Do we have that?

The hot shot coordinators of today are the mid-level HCs of tomorrow.

Chris Ash was the hottest DC in the country before Rutgers. Herman was the hottest OC before U of H. Fickel was the hot DC before Cincy.

Unless there is a coordinator that has passed up years of mid level HC openings, you're taking a much bigger gamble going for a coordinator than going for a proven HC.

I would still go with Matt Campbell. He just got ISU to a conference championship game. I shouldn't need to repeat that.

Bring him in, and ensure he conducts a national search for both DC and OC spots.

He was at FIU for a good portion of that. SMH. Fickell is 34-13 at Cincy including 30-5 the last 2+ seasons. He’s a damn good recruiter who has the one G5 school that actually recruits like a P5 (something UCF with more success and better recruiting area can’t say). Bet he doesn’t check boxes either for you.

Texas needs a massive improvement in recruiting - Cristobal can do that. He also has no QB at Oregon this year. Remember he won Rose Bowl with not his players and has had 2 big recruiting classes now. They will be really good next year
I agree on the recruiting part and I can actually see Fickell. I’ve been a Cristobal guy for recruiting except he evidently failed to get QB recruits which is paramount in the Big 12. It’s against the grain but I’d like to see what our coordinators and assistants can do without Covid and social issues the team has to deal with. Covid wouldn’t normally be an excuse but this was such as massive change and didn’t have the in person time with recruits and current players.

Cristobal signed a top 5 QB last year (national top 100 player) and had the #2 QB and national top 10 player committed to Oregon in this class. He’s killing it everywhere in recruiting

I would be happy with any of

Cristobal
PJ Fleck
Matt Campbell.
Other than making a bunch of money, a coach has to be crazy to come to UT. The fans will never appreciate you. They will immediately begin destroying your career. You better get enough money that you never have to work again.

If Fuente would hire some solid recruiters, he is an excellent no-nonsense coach

Care to elaborate? I see a guy that changed everything in Minnesota. And is competing with inferior talent in the big 10.
He is a cheerleader on the sidelines. Once teams figured his Schtick out, they are on their way down.
He is currently 2-3 with one of the best running backs in the country (817 yds in 5 games) and the most returning starters in the Big 10.
His two wins are against 2-4 Purdue and Putrid Michigan.
When his roster turns over next year, Minnesota will be back to being Minnesota.

He took over a Minnesota program that won 9 games year before he arrived and immediately went backwards. He’s had one magical season...one in which he started 8-0 beating FCS schools and 7 other duds and only one of 8 finished with .500 record. He beat Penn St last year so his rah rah act got some pub. He’s 2-3 this year with a loss to a horrible Michigan team and he really should be 1-4 as Purdue had a TD called back on one of the worst offensive PIs you’ll ever see in closing seconds.

he’s a fraud

I forgot about that PI call against the OFFENSE:

To y'all saying no to all these candidates because we need a sure thing, no more up and comers. Who the hell are you expecting us to get? There are no Urbans left.

Lol at anyone that thinks we can get a proven sure thing. We just were told no by a proven sure thing and showed the entire world that we will conduct a search for your replacement while you are still employed. Why the **** would anyone want to come here?

Mullen
Sarkisian
Traylor
Campbell (not completely sold)
Fickell

Other than Mullen, I don't think I like any of those options, but why do you have Traylor over Campbell? What has he done that makes you think he could succeed as HC at Texas? Not a slam, I don't know much about him.

Agree. This just feels like we start off going after Mullen and end up with Sarkisian.
People seem to feel that Mullen will listen to Texas, especially for the kind of money we are talking about. And no more recruiting against Smart and Saban will have an appeal. He has been through the SEC wars for quite a while now.
