LonghornCrazy it was a good win and a necessary win for Charlie. Having said that, I really like Buechele, he looked really good to me as well as a few others on you offense but your defense is bad and so is your loudmouth DC. Charlie's reluctance to rid himself of him will prove to be his downfall. ND's offense was not good but put up a lot on your team. Also, I can understand the players being happy for the win but you are Texas not Louisville, the hoisting of the coach is odd. Again good win but one of the best games in the history of cf?
The Texas win didn't surprise me as I called that here before the game. I thought overall Texas showed a lot of improvement on the offensive side especially. Offensive scheme was night and day better and the tempo was outstanding. In saying that I have no idea why Notre Dame didn't blitz more against Buechele. They lined up in their base defense and allowed him to not have to make any decisions last night. His throws were to the first options and all timing routes. That makes it so easy for a freshman quarterback. In saying THAT I still think Buechele is a baller, and I'm not taking anything away from him, but I just didn't understand Notre Dame's defensive game plan.
Bedford would still scare me as a horn fan. That defense gave up a lot and Notre Dame's offense isn't a scary one. The good news is that you won't face a better defense this season so the offense should look even better going forward. The bad news is that you will be facing better offenses so that could look worse as well.
The schedule is in your favor from now on. There wasn't any Big 12 team that looked impressive in their opener. The Big 12 has been down for a while and it's no different now. There are games yes that can sneak up on you. Now teams have game film on Buechele and can see what works and what doesn't. Texas has some athletes on the defensive side of the ball, but I'm just not sure if they have the coaching to help them. Strong still looks lost on the sidelines at times which I think some to most will agree, but he got the job done and players never quit.
The no targeting call is still a mystery to me, and not making excuses but seriously I didn't understand it. I thought it was targeting when it first happened and then in slow motion was sure of it. I didn't know it was reviewable and then thought for sure it would be overturned...,yes, because I'm an Aggie I was hopeful.
The bottom line was that Texas won and took care of business. The crowd seemed into more than I've seen in a long time, and I enjoyed the game. I won't wish you luck the rest of the season because I still will pull for whoever plays you, but only an idiot would say that Texas hasn't improved and the offensive scheme is something to be excited about.

And OU was Preseason No. 3, what's your point. No way is ND's offense considered good under any scenario. Nice win for the Horns but hardly one of the best in CFB history as alluded to by the OP. And yes tge hoisting is Louisville-ish not what a blue blood team should be doing.
Major win, over top 10 team - at home, after 3 years of subpar seasons, in a game featuring 2 of the 3 most winning programs in History... against a Team that your team has only ever beaten 2 times in history before..... I would have to say the hoisting of CS by the players was fully justified considering how things have been the last few years...
Funny,I feel the same about the Aggies,Enjoy the games against Bama,Ole Miss,Lsu Arkansas and the Vols this year.I will be watching.
I agree that we only demean ourselves to where we should be or expect to be by the celebrations and exuberance, but, give them a break, we haven't been here in a while. It sucks to say, but the 5 year drought has taken its toll. I disagree with you about the defense. Mainly because of two reasons. 1)Notre Dame is no slouch and our D-line was outmatched. We won't face another like them. For that matter, the whole offensive side of the ball for Notre Dame was very good and complete. 2) Our Defensive line will get better as the season progresses (barring injury). The young guys we have on the DL will get better with every week of practice and quality game rotations. There you go. My sunshine version of this season's outlook.
I agree with this. I was at Texas during the VY era. Texas didn't do that after beating Ohio State in the shoe at night. There are many other ways to celebrate without making it look like you won the Super Bowl.

It looked very Aggyish. We all agree that we are not Texas A&M (who, by the way, beat the #16 team in the country in OT yesterday without acting like our players did). That's all.

I don't see how you and Belldozer don't think ND's offense is very good. Well, I would classify them as "very good". I won't belabor your opinion, but, ND's season will tell us which on of us are right.
I was very nervous on the potential targeting call.. I won't disagree other than to point out that our defender moved his head to the side.
This team is Charlie's team. These players have seen the constant anti-strong whining of certain alumni who didn't get their way since day 1. I like the solidarity of the team. This shows a group of athletes that believe in the Coach and the program. Hook'em Horns!

We still don't have a DL that can get any pressure and the ND OL did a great job of chipping blitzes and Kizer was hitting the holes left by the blitz. No DBs can keep coverage for 5 seconds.
All those that bitch about Haines should take note that the D gave up 7 points in the first half with him QBing the D and 31 points in the second half after Haines went down.

I'm glad this team believes in Strong. Game 1 did nothing to show me our defense improved (stat line/points/film). That is what fundamentally bothers me. I love the progress our offense made in 1 offseason under a new coordinator. It's a shame Bedford couldn't produce the same results.
I think the play certainmy could have been called targeting. That being said Vahe's chopblock he dove but never made contact. Longhorn fans complaining about celebrating a top 10 win after the past several seasons. You're entitled to your opinion but seriously? Defense wasn't great but you got 10pts in OT a drive that's started on the 6 due to int and the special teams play for 2. That's 19 points given non defensive mistakes and the OT that shouldn't have happened. There was a lot of bad tackling and out of position.

It happened fast, Officials obviously did not see it but Replay was obvious and should have been called. BUT --
The Irish did not lose because of the non call,they lost because of poor tackling,poor defensive coaching,(Brian Van Gorder,the absolute bane of Irish fans) and one we hope is gone next year,or sooner.
Kelly also did not help by being afraid to throw to more than two recievers, but mostly N.D. lost because of the determination and guts of the Texas team that is right up there as one of the most improved in the country.
Thank God we got you in the first game and not late in the Season. Your team has talent,chemistry and a ton of desire.
As for carrying the Coach ? Why not ? A young team that went through misery and stepped up in the spotlight in front of a sold out, full of hope, crowd.
I think what you are seeing is that preseason rankings suck. OU is not top 10, neither is ND, far from it either one of them in my opinion.
I think ND and ou are both top 10-15 teams... both just gt hit in the mouth and outplayed.... I look for both to rebound and have a decent year.. minus losses to Texas of course. I just think the top 15 is a lot mre talented than ppl realize...
I don't know. LSU, USC, OU,ND all lost and were well thought of. I just think preseason rankings are inaccurate. As far as ND goes, I'm not sure anyone would think their offense belonged to a team in the top 10, same with OU etc. I think Houston did earn their preseason ranking though.
Some of the folks that were just buying time this year to fire Strong are going to have a rough year this year. It's judt not gonna happen so they are going to have to nit pick and complain about everything.

Well its not the first time its happened since Strong has been at UT. I get it kids are happy and they celebrate its just not something you expect to see at Texas on a yearly basis that's all.
Some cannot remove their orange glasses and see our defense for what it is. What's new?

Um LFDrew if you go back and look, I picked Texas to win BEFORE the game, a couple of days before to be exact. I have clearly stated I really like your qb, your rb Foreman and a couple of your receivers. I am just saying it is something I wasn't expecting to see every year that's all. Carry on however you want.
Hang on,Many players on the Defensive side of the ball have been recruited but may need to be redshirted or need more time to develop.This is year 3 under Strong and players his first year were not recruited by him.He did not have much in the cookie jar when he got here,did He?
