Everyone wants to know what staff changes are going to be made after the season.
There are more rumors about who will be blown out on this UT staff than there are seats in DKR. We are treading very carefully with the information we've gotten because there are obvious agendas at play as to who is to blame and why and how all of it will be dealt with.
Recall 2003, when there were newspaper reports in Austin and San Antonio saying Mack Brown was being pressured to dump Greg Davis and that Davis could be let go "in a matter of hours." It never happened, and some of those rumors came directly from members of Brown's own football office. That goes to show you carefully you have to tread when dealing with this.
Mack Brown is coming back as coach next year. Every indication is that Brown wants to get this thing fixed and will not walk away from this mess. Outside of that, there is very little certainty. Why? Because Mack Brown is going to make some hard decisions, and his inner circle is himself and his wife, Sally.
Unless your information is coming from those two right now, you're guessing. Will there be staff changes? Likely. Is anyone on the staff untouchable? Not likely. Not even Greg Davis or Will Muschamp.
Could Muschamp leave and take another job? What jobs are going to come open? Right now, the word we are getting is Mark Richt will survive at Georgia. And LSU is No. 5 in the BCS under Les Miles, so there should be no turnover in Baton Rouge. Doesn't look like the job market will be there to lure Muschamp away.
Just how much Mack wants to bite off in terms of rebuilding his staff is a huge question for a guy with a coach-in-waiting already on the staff. But Mack won't bow to Muschamp on staff decisions as long as Mack is in charge.
Mack has always loved having Greg Davis with him because Davis is not "a system" coordinator. Mack has always said Davis can adapt his scheme to the talent (although it's been a tough year from that standpoint).
I think there will some staff changes at the position level. The question is how much higher will those changes go? (Brown)

Checked in with a few 2012 recruits to get some updates, but things are awfully quiet as it relates to Texas.
West Orange-Stark athlete Justin Thomas said he continues to get mail from Texas on a weekly basis, but he added that it’s been a while since he’s received any hand-written correspondence from the Longhorn staff. Along with the literature from UT, Thomas listed Oregon, LSU and Arkansas among “a whole bunch” of schools that are sending mail.
With WO-S still playing, Thomas’ focus has been on his team’s season, and he has not been able t o make it to any college games this fall.
As for who is standing out, the 5-9, 160-pounder lists Texas, Houston, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as some of the schools that have grabbed his attention.
“Texas is still on top,” Thomas said. “I just like them because of Earl (Thomas) and Deon (Beasley).”
Thomas, who has grown up a Longhorn fan, said the current struggles of the UT football team have done nothing to change his perception of the Texas program.
“It’s not a negative. They have a young team. They’re going to be better in the future,” he said. (Suchomel)

Things are starting to heat up for Pflugerville Hendrickson DE Victor Irokansi, but he too is waiting to hear from Texas.
Irokansi lists every school in the Big 12 aside from Texas and Baylor as showing interest, as well as UCLA, Oregon, LSU, Arkansas and Georgia. Northwestern, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have mentioned that he could be close to receiving an offer.
The 6-4, 222-pound defender is hoping to hear from Texas. With his junior season having ended this week, Irokansi said he’ll put together a highlight tape and send it out to several colleges, including Texas.
“I still like Texas. I would still consider them no matter what. If it happens, I’ll look at them and they’ll definitely be in the picture,” Irokansi said. “If it doesn’t, I’ll just have to move on.”
Irokansi said he has yet to formulate a hard list of leaders, but Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are two programs that have been keeping in constant contact.
“I don’t really have a top team or anything like that. It’s just some schools are more personal with t heir contact than others,” Irokansi said.
And where would Texas fit in if the Horns entered the race?
“They would be right there at the top if they were seriously talking, seriously recruiting me. I was born in Austin, I’m a Longhorn fan,” Irokansi said. “I’m always going to be a Longhorn fan. That’s the team I grew up watching. But them not recruiting me has helped me to see other schools, not be so narrow sighted. It’s opened my eyes to some other possibilities.”
Irokansi attended the Texas A&M-OU game in College Station. He’s hoping to squeeze in a couple more games over the next couple weeks but has yet to put anything on the schedule. (Suchomel)

One player we’ve been hoping to get an update on over the past couple months is 2012 Houston Willowridge OL Aviante Collins. We’ve heard good things about the 6-6, 300-pounder and we were able to catch up with Willowridge head coach James McDonald to get an update.
According to McDonald, Collins is talented enough that he could play any of the five OL spots at the next level.
“He has great feet. He has good speed, and he's aggressive,” McDonald said.
Collins is hearing from schools in the SEC, the Big 12, the Pac 10 … “You name it, he’s got mail from them,” McDonald said. Included in that group is Texas.
“I've seen coach Giles a few times. They’ve sent him mail, sent him some emails,” McDonald said.
Collins attended a UT camp over the summer, and McDonald said his standout lineman is keeping an open mind.
“He hasn't really said anybody is really ahead of anybody else,” McDonald said. “He’s gotten things from Miami, Florida State, you name it. He’s just taking it all in, trying to see where he feels he fits best.”
We’re going to talk to Collins this week to get his thoughts on the early stages of the recruiting process. (Suchomel)

We checked with 2011 athlete Tyler Baker, who was in Austin this weekend for an unofficial visit. Baker’s not a guy that’s on the radar for a scholarship offer, but he said he’s heard talk that he could be an invited walk-on for the UT program.
Baker, from Brook Hill School in Bullard, is a guy that’s certainly produced at the high school level. He was all-state on offense as a sophomore and junior. He was all-state on defense as a freshman, sophomore and junior. He’s put up incredible stats, including 123 career touchdowns during his career. He was MVP of the football and basketball state championship games last year. Last week, in a playoff game, he recorded a TD on an interception return, on a kick return, two rushing TDs and one passing TD.
“It was a great visit. They really do it right up there,” Baker said. “That’s the best tour I've been on, the way they treat you while you're there, the facilities.”
Baker had some contact with Mac McWhorter on the visit. This fall, he’s visited Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU and SMU in addition to Texas.

Longhorn commitment Miles Onyegbule has been recruited by UT as a wide receiver, but Onyegbule played QB all year for Arlington High, whose season ended this week with a tough loss to Abilene.
Onyegbule has excelled at QB this year despite missing a couple games with injury (see his video here). With so many schools having success with dual-threat quarterbacks, including Texas under Vince Young and Colt McCoy, Onyegbule could Onyegbule pull a Ryan Tannehill and play some signal caller in college? Highly unlikely, but anything’s possible.
“My coaches have made comments about it, saying they’ve heard through the grapevine (that he could get a look at QB) but I’m not really sure. I know coach Kennedy and coach Chambers loved that I played it this year,” Onyegbule said. “(Wide receiver) is definitely my first love but I don’t mind any position the coaches use me at. I’m just trying to see the field and help out at any position asked.”
Onyegbule’s future almost certainly lies as a pass catcher, but he could be a solid QB prospect if he had devoted much of his career to that position. As a QB he’s a terrific runner and he can actually throw a pretty nice ball. All that being said, Texas fancies him as a big receiver with terrific ball skills. (Suchomel)

Shreveport (LA) Evangel DE Jermauria Rasco has held an offer from Texas since February and has made many unofficial visits to Texas over the last couple of years.
Rasco is making sure to take his time with the process, but slowly but surely he is narrowing things down.
Last week he did take an unofficial visit to LSU for the Alabama game and enjoyed his time in Baton Rouge.
“The trip to LSU went pretty well. I went down with a couple of my teammates,” Rasco said. “I don’t know why but every time I go down to LSU I get a different feel for it. I enjoyed the game, it was a real exciting game. It was just really fun this time. I guess I was with my friends so it was more fun.”
This weekend he took his first official visit to Florida St. and when we talked to him on Wednesday he was looking forward to getting to know more about the Seminoles.
“The trip to Florida St., I’ve been out there once,” he said. “I went to their football camp and I was just in the hotel room the whole time, so hopefully I get a chance to get out and see the city this time. I’m just looking forward to visiting this weekend.”
Florida St. and LSU are joined by Alabama and Texas as programs thought to be leading for the services of the Rivals250 defensive end. He has continued to keep in touch with both coaching staffs.
“Everything is going alright,” Rasco said of Alabama. “I talk to coach Saban every two or three weeks and I talk to my recruiting coach every week or I call him or whatever, so everything is still good with my family and Alabama. Honestly I just pray about it every night. The Lord already has everything in store so that’s what I’m trying to go off of. I’m just trying to take my time with the recruiting process.”
As for Texas, the Horns have made sure to keep in touch
“I talked with coach Muschamp Saturday around 11 or 12 right before they played (Kansas St.),” Rasco said. “Everything is still good with Texas. We talked and he was just telling me how it would help them if they got me and I were to go there for school.
“My playing time there would be a lot faster than most people would think because they got the two top defensive ends last year. He was telling me how they have four on scholarship right now and two of them graduate so they have two next year and they only have one commitment and they need one more. He was telling me how fast I would play there. I’m still trying to consider them I just don’t want to be in any rush to do anything.”
Rasco has not named a leader, but admitted the pitch from Texas is appealing.
“He’s got everything sounding real good right now,” Rasco said. “Everything is still good with Texas. That’s my people. That’s where my people that came out today (for the Army All-American announcement) are from so it’s going to be hard to tell them no.”
“It’s going to be hard to tell anybody no, but I don’t know it’s just….I’m just trying to have fun with everything and just enjoy myself.”
Rasco continues to keep in touch with several coaching staffs around the country, and is working to build relationships
“I talk to the coaches from Florida St., Bama, LSU, and UCLA, and Georgia every week. And Arkansas. We’re kind of getting a relationship going. I think it’s going to be a fun process,” Rasco said. “I don’t want to get in a rush and commit early and all that kind of stuff because when I went down to LSU I ran into (Jeremy) Hill and all of them are already committed so they’re trying to say ‘come on, Rasco’ and that kind stuff. So I was like ‘just be chill, I’m trying to do what’s best for me.’ They’re down there in the south five minutes away from LSU already in the Baton Rouge-area ,so that’s what they live and breathe. If it’s meant for me to go there I will be down there, but other than that I’m just trying to take my time with everything.”
Rasco does not have any other visits setup at this point, but he does have plans for a few others in the future.
“I know I’m going to take a visit to one of the California schools probably come January or late December. Probably UCLA or Cal.”
As we have reported, a future visit to Texas will likely be an unofficial visit. (Howell)

DeSoto standout offensive lineman Curtis Riser is one of the Longhorns top targets in the 2012 class, and recruiting has already seen things pick up quite a bit.
“Recruiting is crazy. I’m getting a lot,” Riser said. “Evan (Washington) told me it was going to come hard and fast, and it definitely is, but he told me to stay humble and that’s what I’m doing.”
Riser recently took a trip to Texas when the Longhorns played Iowa St. and liked what he saw in Austin.
“I went down to see a football game against Iowa St.,” Riser said. “They lost but I feel like they’re going to come off this losing season and be pretty good next year.”
He is not naming any favorites but the feeling is Texas is in very good position at this point. He is not worried with the recruiting process as DeSoto goes through the playoffs, and does not have any visits planned on his schedule. However, he is open to the possibilities.
“Whoever offers me a visit I’m going to go there because I’m open to all schools right now,” he said. (Howell)

Saturday I was able to stop off and meet up with Athens athlete Kendall Sanders. The night before Sanders played receiver, running back, and some cornerback as Athens topped Diboll to move to the second round of the playoffs.
He is receiving interest in the form of letters and invitations to take in games from several programs including the Longhorns. He has not visited Texas, but he has taken one trip.
“I’ve been to a couple. I went to TCU’s when they played Air Force,” Sanders said. “It was exciting.”
As someone who plays all over the field, he has knowledge of many positions, but there is one he tends to like more than the others.
“I play those but in college I think I want to play receiver but I’ll play wherever in college,” he said. “Whatever they put me at that’s what I am.”
Sanders worked at receiver at most camps but did work at cornerback at both TCU and Texas A&M. Regardless of where he lines up though his strengths are versatile enough to adapt.
“I bring speed and just never giving up on my teammates,” Sanders said. “I’m trying to keep them calm and hype at the same time.” (Howell)

While in Carthage I was able to get a good look at Edward Pope and he is looking good out there. He is not completely 100-percent but he is playing both ways. Texas has inquired as have almost everyone else. Missouri has offered but look for that list to grow. TCU is making a strong push with his brother Jason Teague already in Fort Worth, but the Longhorns are one team that would likely make him think from what I’ve heard.
Also at Carthage 6-7, 305-pound offensive tackle Greg Brantley is just beginning to make some noise. He is already a full qualifier and has improved a lot over the course of the year. As big as Brantley he still has room to fill out and he’s a young prospect for his grade. He also plays with a mean streak and moves really well for a big guy. Texas has taken a look and are showing interest along with the likes of Alabama and LSU in these preliminary stages of the recruiting process. (Howell)
