Cliffs Notes: Flop-mas season starter early for the Longhorns in the 2025 recruiting cycle on Thursday, as Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker flipped Oregon defensive tackle commitment Josiah Sharma over to the good guys one month after he had committed to the Ducks.

Rankings: Here's the industry breakdown...

Rivals: (5.8) Low 4 star, No.203 nationally, No.19 in California
ESPN: (80) Low 4 star, NR nationally, No.31 in California
On3: (91) Low 4 star, No.148 nationally, No.10 in California
247: (88) High 3 star, NR nationally, No.41 in California
247 composite: (.9124) Low 4 star, No.234 nationally, No.21 in California

Notable offers: Oregon (OV 6/14), Alabama (OV 6/21), Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and USC.

Evaluation: The first thing you notice about Sharma is that he has the things you can't teach... flat out mammoth size. At 6-5, 300+ pounds, he's an absolute space eater who brings quality ability to the table. While he's not a guy that is probably a true plus-athlete, he brings slid athleticism to the table for his size and brings a really good football brain to the table, often diagnosing plays incredibly quickly and making an act of play-making in quick transition. There have been some comparisons to former Texas star T'Vondre Sweat because of the size and while he's not as athletic as Sweat, you can see a version of him inside of Sharma. He'll be a player that eventually draws double teams in the future and will be able to play over the center or in a three-tech position.

Why it matters: The interior of the defensive line os the number area of need in the 2025 class and the addition of Sharma gives the Texas staff one of the players across the country that it has coveted throughout this cycle. On top of addressing a major positional need with a national 100-250 type prospect, the Longhorns also were able to put another flag pole down in the state of California.

Expectations: With the Longhorns set to lose 5 defensive tackles to graduation following this season, Sharma will receive every shot to come in and make an instant depth impact as a true freshman. The smart money will have him needing a season or two of development before he fully finds the light switch, but if the light switch comes on he has the upside to be a multi-year starter for the Longhorns.

Must See Junior Film: Enjoy.
