Cliffs Notes: The Longhorns picked up a major piece of the 2025 defensive line puzzle on Sunday night with a commitment from former North Carolina defensive tackle Travis Show.
Evaluation: The 6-5, 330-pound Shaw is a massive young man, who was expected to develop into a first round pick in the NFL when he came out of high school and those heights just haven't occurred. Over the course of three seasons at the high major college level, Shawn has played in 37 career games, while recording 55 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and zero sacks. At his best, he's a massive player to move out of the way and he displays moments of athleticism on occasion, but he just hasn't put it together. He's a pure run stopper and you probably shouldn't expect more than that, but he does have value in defending the run.
Why it matters: The Longhorns want to sign at least three defensive tackles from the Portal this off-season and this gives them two, along with Purdue transfer Cole Brevard. The Longhorns will continue to seek another DT option in the Portal, but this takes a little less pressure off of everyone's shoulders.
Expectations: He'll either be a starter or a player that sees a lot of snaps in the defensive tackle rotation.
