Cliffs Notes: The Texas recruiting momentum continued to pick up steam on Monday night with a commitment from Allen offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu.
Rankings: Rivals currently Umeozulu ranked as a mid four-star prospect, the No.159 player in the nation, No.7 offensive guard in the nation and the No.24 overall prospect in the state of Texas. 247 currently has him rated as a low-four star prospect and the No.34 overall prospect in Texas, while ESPN has him ranked as four-star and the No.72 overall prospect in the country. On3 has him ranked as a four-star and the No.66 player in the country. In the soon to be updated Lone Star Recruiting Rankings, I've got him rated as the No.10 player in the Lone Star State.
Key Offers: Alabama (OV), OKlahoma (OV), USC, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, and Texas A&M
Evaluation: I think I might just love him more than anyone in the state with my No.10 ranking slotted for him in the morning. The young man is an athletic, ass-kicking sonofagun. An incredibly violent player with his hands, Umeozulu is a physically dominant player at the point of attack, who also possesses the ability to get to the second level in the run game when put on the move. Although he's mostly looked at as an inside player at the next level, I think he's got the athleticism and feet to potentially play tackle, even if his pass protection is a work in progress. Few four-star players in the state of Texas elevated their play to even higher levels than Umeozulu has in 2021.
Former Longhorns player he reminds me of: I honestly can't think of anyone the Longhorns have had in a long time that profiles like him.
Why it matters: Kyle Flood is making a run at National Recruiter of the Year honors. In my mind, this kid is one of the 5 or 6 best prospects that remained uncommitted in the state of Texas and he's the second-best offensive line commitment in a historically good class for the Longhorns. This kid is a winner, he plays incredibly hard and he hasn't scratched the surface of how good he can be.
Enjoy his a one-game highlight reel from his senior season...
