Cliffs notes: Texas landed its fourth commitment for the 2019 class when Westlake Village (Westlake, California) linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd announced his commitment to Texas.
Rankings: Rivals.com rates Floyd as the No. 100 player nationally, and the nation’s No. four outside linebacker. Floyd is currently the No. 15 player in California.
Key Offers: Floyd has received offers from a ton of the nation’s top programs – Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, and many more.
Evaluation: At 6-3, 218 pounds, Floyd possesses impressive athleticism. How can you tell? Well, his second clip on his junior highlight tape is of him returning a punt, and shortly after he’s catching a touchdown pass. This is an elite-level athlete at the linebacker position.
On defense, he uses his speed, quickness, and length to fly into backfields, and runs sideline-to-sideline very well. Floyd should have impressive range at the next level, and shows pass-rush and ball-hawking instincts. Physically, he should add a noticeable amount of muscle mass in college as his frame fills out.
Why it matters: This is quite a statement for Tom Herman and his staff. They went to California and pulled a Rivals100 linebacker that holds offers from basically everyone.
