Cliffs notes: The 2020 Texas recruiting class, and specifically the defensive back group, keeps getting more talented. Shadow Creek (Pearland) safety Xavion Alford became the 16th member of the 2020 Texas recruiting class when he announced his commitment.
Rankings: In the recently updated 2020 LSR 100, Alford is ranked the No. 37 prospect in the state.
Key Offers: Texas went head-to-head with Texas A&M and emerged victorious. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Tennessee and more have already offered the four-star safety.
Evaluation: If there is a football being put up in the air while he’s on the field, chances are Alford is around it. The newest Texas commitment is the type of defensive back that’s always around the football, and anticipates and reads the game well.
A playmaker, Alford is unafraid to throw his weight around and show his physical side, and does a great job of trusting his eyes and instincts to make plays. At 6-0, 182 pounds (The Opening), Alford has enough strength to play physically, and enough speed (4.55 40-yard dash) to cover down the field.
Why it matters: Alford is a Rivals250 prospect, who many top programs in the country wanted. Plus, it’s another in-state recruiting win for the Longhorns over the Aggies.
