Cliffs notes: The signed paperwork for the Longhorns didn’t stop rolling in on Wednesday. This morning, Texas announced it received a signed letter of intent from Lone Star (Frisco) linebacker Jaylan Ford.
Rankings:
Key Offers: The Longhorns flipped Ford from Utah, and he also holds offers from Texas Tech, Washington State, Minnesota and others.
Evaluation: What immediately stands out about Ford is he can really run, and has some quality athleticism paired with length; he has a frame that could look much different in the future but also still able to keep his speed and agility.
This is what SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion said about Ford after seeing him earlier this season:
“The Utah commitment moves very naturally, particularly when dropping into coverage, and has the frame to be a run defender and speed to close on the edge. He's not the most physical tackler but Ford has plenty of tools to be a high-quality defender.”
Ford possesses plenty of potential, and can really move sideline-to-sideline or vertically down the field in coverage.
Why it matters: Texas finished yesterday with just one linebacker signee. Now, it has two, and Ford is a different, more rangy and athletic linebacker than Prince Dorbah.
