Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend: Better buy this kid's stock while there's still some left!

No, you're just making intellectually dishonest remarks.

Or is suggesting that I have an agenda against a player I ranked as a 5-star in high school not qualify?
i do think that it's strange that you are dogging Quinn right now. Agenda? I don't know, but I'm not the only one who thinks that you've are weirdly negative about him.

* Christian Jones pulling off a 5.05 in the 40 at 6-5, 1/4 and 305 pounds? With an 73.62 wingspan and 10.62-inch hands? Well done, big fella! He made some money this weekend. The end of the third round is not off the table.

Thanks for the info. He kinda got lost in the hoopla of AD and Worthy. Although his wingspan was EIGHTY-THREE plus. I figured what you wrote was an error because 73+ wingspan woukd he no bueno for a 6’5” OT prospect

Enjoyed the read. Still hard to get past the PTSD of the prior two coaches and where the team went. In the ways that matter, Texas seems to be on the brink of being back for a sustained run.

Enjoyed the Steely Dan list, I would have to put Dirty Work into top ten due to variation of the sound in that song but no qualms with your list.

* It's been 18 seasons since Texas baseball last won a national championship. Entering this season, only six of the last 18 seasons have ended with Texas in Omaha. I know it's too early to panic, but nothing about the 2024 team has me overly optimistic that this team will register as a special outfit. If your expectations of the program are to be elite, it just feels like the Longhorns aren't that. Yet, if your expectations are to be one of the nation's borderline elite once every couple of years, things are pretty good. Is it fair to even expect the former over the latter at this point? How many years have to pass before we just admit that Augie and Gus aren't walking through that door?

Not counting Covid season, this is quietly Pierce’s 7th season at Texas. Interesting what direction this program takes this year

* I think Texas men's hoops is in the Tournament. Period. The question is whether they can sneak into a 7 seed instead of an 8 or 9 seed.

Getting off the 8/9 line could potentially be big

... Farewell, Tyron Smith. After 13 seasons with the Cowboys, it appears the 4-time All-Pro (8-time Pro Bowler) has played his last down with the franchise. He might be the most decorated player in the team’s history that I don't have a real emotional feeling for as he says goodbye. He never played in a game that mattered and hasn't played a full season in the last 8 years. Is he really a Hall of Fame player? Personally, I have him as the No. 3 OT in franchise history behind Rayfield Wright and Erik Williams.

💯

(Sell) At least six guys are going in year one or two and I'm not sure next year's draft will be quite that deep.

Not sure people have any real clue of how our projected ‘24 draft class stacks up historically in our program. Long story short it will be the best in modern draft history and you have to go back 40 years to find perhaps a stronger one. And that ‘84 class only had one first rounder

(Sell) The lack of three-point shooting is going to do this team in during the second week of the Tournament at some point.

I’m rather shocked by our low total of 3 pointers we take. 345th out of 349 in 3s attempted per game.

It has been a hot minute since I've listened to Steely Dan and knowing that it's a favorite of @RLong68, I thought I might as well give the band another go this week, especially since so many of you believe that I criminally underrated one song in particular the last time I featured the group.

Well done. Do the Bellamy Brothers and I will have no further requests!

We need 5 wide sets to get errrbody on the field. Bonds is a starter. Sounds like Cook will likely start but Golden, Bolden, Wingo. We need more footballs

Running out 5 wide and taking out a Jaydon Blue is not wise.

(Sell) He's still going at the top of the draft to the Bears.

They are going to regret that. Honestly, they should fleece someone for that first pick to get Fields real help and stick with him

When Steely Dan first started playing in college, their drummer and backing vocalist was Chevy Chase. Seriously

Technically it wasn’t Steely Dan. It was an earlier group fronted by Fagen & Becker

Ewers remained plagued by patches (especially early in games) where he just didn't seem dialed in. Hopefully he takes that step this season and comes out guns blazing every possession. He definitely had as stacked a crew of skill players (and arguably as good an OL) as any QB in the country.

The good news is that the quality of the players around him should still be top notch next year. Just waiting for him to find his ceiling, because I don't believe he's touched it yet.
Good post.

You didn't ask this question earlier?

"Were they the best receivers or did they just have the better quarterback?"

Hence my resource that the NFL seems to think that Odunze is a better receiver.

The answer could be both. I asked aloud if the notion of who was better will change when they enter the NFL.

Honestly, I think Mitchell’s effort was more productive relative to draft status. Everyone knew Worthy was fast so while astounding was his 40, it didn’t really answer whatever “concerns” teams may still have. But Mitchell’s 4.35 answered whatever speed concerns which was his only unchecked box
No doubt, but the thing that everyone is talking about is Worthy.

It's not dogging Quinn to say he wasn't great last year.

It's quite revealing that you think telling the truth is dogging him. Maybe that's the hiccup.

Oops, need to fix that.

I know. The coaching part would be elite IMO. He’ll, I don’t know if Tulo would even want to do it.
I just know that Pierce is not elite, and that is the type of coach which should be leading the most successful program in history.
I would think I he would.

Posting negative comments about him in a conversation about how well our guys did at the combine was gratuitous. Ewers took the team to the playoffs and a #3 finish. He had a great year which included a huge win at Tuscaloosa that people seem to forget.

In the two games that Texas lost last year, there was zero doubt that the opposing QB was the best player on the field. I can't think of any games, except maybe Oklahoma State, where that can be said of Quinn. To take the next step, Quinn needs to have more games where he's the undisputed best player on the field.
You think Jalen Milroe looked better than Quinn? Quinn was 24/38 for 349 with 3TDs in that game. Milroe wasn't even close.

Agreed, but next year's could also reach double figures.

Mitchell’s official 40 time was 4.34. Was the 5th fastest at this year’s combine. His 10 yard split was 1.52, Worthy’s 1.49. At about 40 pounds heavier, Mitchell is moving.
Mitchell had the best WR broad jump, second best of the combine at 11’4”.
