Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (It's Charlie Time)

I apologize for making assumptions, I took the statement about drafting a defensive player would not make them a SB team the wrong way. They do need the positions you listed that's why I suggested Ramsey or Jack which fit the needs. A 3-tech DT is needed badly, its unfortunate that there isn't a sure fire elite defensive tackle in this class like in other previous draft classes. I completely agree with you Jerry never seems to grasp the greater picture from a developmental and team building standpoint.
No problem Ghost. Passions and frustrations run high with regards to the Cowboys and they way they're run. They frustrate me greatly. I agree with you about the DT. I wish there was an Aaron Donald there to take. That would be an easy pick.

Let's not forget about them aiming for Quincy Carter when Drew Brees was there for the nabbing.
Actually Ketch, Brees was taken number 32 (first pick of 2nd rd.) and Dallas took Carter at 53. Dallas forfeited their first round pick (number 7 I think) in the Joey Galloway signing (ugh). So, they didn't actually pass him up. Although let's be real, they probably would've passed him anyway had he been there. That's how bad the drafting was during that time.

Man you are not lying, the Cowboys and frustration go hand in hand. The decisions by the organization is what frustrates me the most, especially when Jerry attempts to evaluate talent for the draft.

It wasn't that bad. Come on, now.
No, but some people love them some hyperbole. Is MLS are par with EPL or Bundesliga? Well no, but it's not light years away either, despite the overly dramatic declarations of some. England, for example, has the Premier League on top, but then the next level is the Championship League, then there's League One, then League Two, and then Conference National League, etc. So now we're what, 5 or 6 levels down? Somewhere way down there's your girl's JV level. MLS is probably easily equal to Championship League level play at the moment, with some of the better teams maybe eyeing promotion.

I encourage Cowboy fans to look up their drafting from 1995-2002. 1994 was a complete wash as well, save one: Larry Allen. He elevated that draft to a B alone because he was so dominant. From that time frame (95-02), was there a worst drafting organization? Maybe the Bengals. Its astounding how bad it was before Parcels got there. But Jerry wants to refute that it was Jimmy picking the players from 89-93? Laughable.
I don't have the heart to look through those drafts.

I wasn't suggesting that they passed on him, I'm suggesting they could have made a move for Brees and instead had their sights set on Carter the entire time.

Dont forget special teams-8 out of 25. One third of the best team in our conference plays for one team. And we beat their ass.
bottles the mind, huh?

Not just beat, but physically whipped.

In what was truly a miserable season, those two wins: Baylor and OU could very well be something these players use to build off, especially the young guys. Those freshman and sophomores will have tasted victory against OU in the Cotton Bowl and have now gone into McLane stadium and have defeated Baylor. That's important psychologically for the future because they wont be intimidated by team or surroundings vs. those two teams.

TCU is the team to conquer on that bucket list, and redeem Iowa State of course.

NOtre Dame is the most important game on the schedule IMO.

Tone wise, I agree. It's an important game to come out and show major improvement across the board. Can they win? Nobody will expect them to. They have to come out of that game feeling good about themselves. In that sense, I agree with your statement.

Thanks Ketch, I had made a conscience decision to never, ever think about the wasted draft pick that was Shante Carver, the Quincy Carter of the defensive side of the ball. No I'm curled up in a fetal position in the back corner of my closet cursing the abyss that has become my Cowboys. Please, no more mention of any of the first picks of the Cowboys from 1997 to 2011. For God's sake man, have a heart!

He was better than Kavika Pittman, though.

Arrrrgh, another one! Who's next, David LaFleur?

LaFleur could have been good, but the back issues derailed his career. Those back issues were a known quantity before the draft.

The point of the first part of the column was to say 85 guys are at various crossroads and Charlie's rep suggests this is what he's best at, getting guys through crossroads.
This would be the year for Charlie to start having a lot of success here doing that.
