Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Permission to dream big...j/k... kind of)

Good Godā€¦they only did that late in the game against our 2nd and 3rd teams.
Not true. Several 7 to 8 yd runs as if there were no LBs. Texas definitely stuffed them many times as well. Just a red flag to me.

I never saw it happen when the game was in doubt, Once we were up 24-0, it happened, but thatā€™s football. They had 131 yards rushing for the game, with about half of that in the 2nd half against our 2nd and 3rd team. Good for CSU.

Re: #3:

I want to believe this, but reading the pre OU thoughts last year is coming back to me. I don't remember the exact words, or whether you said Texas would win by double digits, but I remember a very confident stance and it didn't work out like that at all.

So, I am going to remain skeptical about this week.

Youā€™re pretty skeptical and/or conservative most of the time anyway.

We gifted ou their first 3 scores, and it still took a boneheaded defensive miscommunication by us for them to win at the end. Michigan has nothing close to what ouā€™s offense was last year.

Context is everything.

3. Texas should beat the defending national champions by double digits.

Based on first-game impressions, the Longhorns have a significant quarterback advantage coming into this game. S-I-G-N-I-F-I-C-A-N-T.

That would be the case if Arch Manning was starting, let alone third-year starter Quinn Ewers. That would probably be the case if either of the top two Texas quarterbacks were forced to play left-handed, or with a hand tied behind his back.

No offense, Davis Warren.

Michigan's defense is still fantastic and if the Wolverines are going to beat Texas on Saturday, that unit will have to lead the way (along with special teams) because the offense they will field (269 total offensive yards vs. Fresno State) is a cap gun when compared to the arsenal that the Longhorns will bring to town.

So, let me just get my early-week hot take out of the way ... Texas will not only beat Michigan in Ann Arbor in less than six days ...

It'll do so by three scores.
This is what Nick Saban calls Rat Poison!

Getting a little ahead of this conversation but I watched the O U game against Temple. O U gave up 4 sacks and a couple of near sacks. I am an old and have a lot of scar tissue from my many Red River experiences. I canā€™t wait for this year.

I'll grant you this, when it comes to Oklahoma I have never bought the narrative that Venables was a lousy hire and that they are closer to mediocrity than excellence. Or that they are destined to be a middle of the pack program in this new conference.

I hope I'm wrong on that. OU as a program needs to go through what Texas did from 2014-2020.

I went back and looked at game. I think you are mostly right. On CSU's 2nd drive, they had runs of 6 and 13 yards. On their 3rd drive, they had a 4 yard run. On their 4th drive, they had a 7 yard run. on their 6th drive, they had a 12 yard run. However, that was last play of half when they were deep in their own territory and down 31-0.

They started 1st drive of 2nd half with 7 and 10 yard runs. Their 2nd drive of second half resulted in 4 yard and 6 yard runs. I quit looking after that because Quinn was out of game.

So, thru the second drive of second half they gave up seven 6 to 13 yard runs. there were also two 4 yard runs, Therefore, I agree it was not as bad as it felt to me. There were only 3 runs when still competitive of 6, 13, and 7 yards. Cannot count the 12 yarder at end of first half.

Who started the next week at South Florida?

Who didn't play at all?
That was Saban and company trying to craft the narrative that Texas didn't beat them at their best in an effort to position themselves for a playoff run. Bama lacked playmakers going into that game last year with Milroe really one of the only ones they had offensively. As soon as that game ended, Saban and the Alabama faithful tried to solely pin that loss on Milroe until they saw what the alternatives brought to the table. Then, it was "we hadn't figured it out when we played Texas" and "we're a much different/better team than we were then".

Also, Milroe was inexperienced and had some costly mistakes and missed throws.

True but he represented their only shot at beating us. We beat them by 3 scores if they trot any of their other QBs out there.
