Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (What does Arch in 2024 mean for 2023?)

a couple things that stood out among an always great read-

1. Worthy the same to return as he was 10 days ago? Your answer on that shocked me, as it sounded like a done deal he was gone 10 days ago. Is it still?

2. That USC beats Utah if Williams doesn’t get hurt. Maybe I’m super jaded, but he sure looked a lot more hurt after bad plays than he did on good plays, and that seems kind of consistent with how I perceive his personality. Utah’s offense straight up bullied their defense from the 2nd quarter on and I don’t think Caleb having a little less discomfort would have changed that.
a. All of the things Texas has going for it has always been what it has going for it. The quarterback situation is the same.

b. They had a chance to go up three scores and couldn't do it. Had he been able to move around, they score there IMO.

No. 10 - The List: Top 10 Fleetwood Mac songs...

With the passing of Christine McVie this week, it felt like a good time to do a Fleetwood Mac list, even if the list is very Stevie Nicks heavy.

Rest in peace, Christine.

10. Little Lies
9. Sara
8. Gypsy
7. Gold Dust Woman
6. Rhiannon
5. Everywhere
4. Landslide
3. The Chain
2. Go Your Own Way
1. Dreams

Not having “Songbird” by McVie on your list is shameful. It’s a beautiful song about the band.

It's not the clean pockets that he needs to improve the most on.
Up to coaches to make oline better so qb gets more time. Seen too many Texas qb get blamed for struggling then getting hurt playing behind a bad line.

A. You guys obviously got some feedback from sources very close to the situation for your reporting on this a couple weeks ago. Have you gotten any additional feedback from the same sources in the last week, and if so, has there been no change in tone from the previous feedback?

I understand if you don’t want to directly answer this.

I don't love some of your list. Having said that, trying to pick and order songs from a catalog as diverse as Fleetwood Mac is always gonna cause disagreement. My biggest issues are that The Chain is a good song, but not top 10 and Everywhere is an average song that features CmcV, while her best song and the one that would be a better candidate is Songbird, IMO. Here's my list, flame away!

1. Go Your Own Way
2. Rhiannon
3. Landslide
4. Dreams
5. Don’t Stop
6. Silver Spring (I prefer the live version)
7. Gypsy
8. Sara
9. Gold Dust Woman
10. Songbird

I can't I totally disagree with the Top 10 list... but Christine had such a pretty voice. No comment on Stevie Nicks, though she's a really interesting lady.

I really enjoyed all of your thoughts this week. Very well done, @Ketchum !

It feels the same to me. His relationship with Sark has always been the thing Texas has going for it in this situation.

If Ewers breaks out and has an awesome season next year and wants to come back another year I don’t see any way we wouldn’t keep him. That’d be like Ohio State kicking Stroud out this year because they had Ewers waiting in the wings.

You always stick with the sure thing and Manning would probably be transferring.

Then you risk Arch leaving IMO.

He ain't coming here to wait until 2025.

There's no real change. Sark can't really answer the quarterback question.
I guess I’m just asking are sources around X reinforcing the same things, or have you not gotten recent info from them?

If you don’t want to answer that, I get it.

Solid writeup Ketch.

Here’s my take on 2024. Ewers has the ability to make 2024 dicey.
First, given this report of him partying too much, he better cut that crap out real fast.
He better start learning the playbook and developing a reputation for being a student, THE student, of the game. That’s the rep players want to get behind…not the QB who can do the longest keg stand.

Next, he better get back to being confident dropping back and stepping into his throws.
And his accuracy better improve a lot.
There will be immense pressure on him as I can easily see MM spelling him sooner in 23 knowing what’s likely destined for 24 (AM).

All that to say, if Ewers does well enough to have a solid record through October but it great enough to superb game changing performances but then starts really improving come November, he may be in a unique position where it’s too much potential to be highly drafted vs needing another year of higher trajectory…and thus making 24 more sensitive…

I think chances are better that Ewers either (1) kills it (sure hope so) OR (2) he’s enough like this year that MM plays enough to leave 24 wide open (Ie, AM’s)…but there is that other scenario that’s possible.

Then you risk Arch leaving IMO.

He ain't coming here to wait until 2025.
For sure, in the perfect world Ewers does great then leaves for the NFL and Manning takes off where he left. But makes sense we aren’t going to have both in 2024 however it shakes out.

I mean, if Ewers goes for a 160ish rating and looks great to close the year out... then so what? Or would Ewers need to be 170+ it to be impossible to plan a change? 180+?
