Just a typical day in SEC country... I mean everyone did a double take when that Ndemiche kid picked Ole Miss over everyone... and rumors abounded about payments etc... why does this surprise anyone aside from the fact this kid and his coach were TOO STUPID to not leave a digital trail of all of this... and then this numbnut idiot bkames his stepfather... eventhough the conversation can be traced to everyoens phonethat took part... and we wont even get in to the fact that the coach isnt surprised or discouraged about being asked for cash etc by a player.... time to burn Ole Miss to the ground, and watch the rats start jumping SEC ships all over the place......

It doesn't surprise me that it was happening. But, it does surprise me with the ease at which he confessed and actually getting caught.

If the NCAA doesn't burn Ole Miss to the ground, shit is going to get crazy. It would send the message that the smart way to do business is to go full pony express. If there is no punishment, start the bidding wars.

The bidding wars started a long time ago
Sure. And everyone has known Ole Miss was cheating since Freeze got the job. But if this goes unpunished, it will get much worse. Might as well pay the players with University checks. Stop wasting money on facilities and pay the players. It would be cheaper and way more effective.

Man it must be nice to run up an electric bill to the point you can't afford it. I swear people pushing off their problems on everyone else is becoming to much of a norm. This player although drafted will not have money in his bank and he doesn't seem to bright so more than likely will be suspended through out the seasons.

Ole Miss is dirty as hell and plenty of other programs as well, but a few hundred dollars changing hands is not the straw that broke the camels back. While this is certainly illegal per the letter of the law, so is speeding. This isn't paying for signatures, it's the equivalent of $100 handshakes, and that is EVERYWHERE. I get the discussion because Mississippi is part of a larger scandal, but this specifically doesn't move the needle, imo.

The NCAA barely wants to touch blatant cheating much less a few hundred dollars here and there.

But he didn't ask a third party for the money. He asked Coach John, who works for Ole Miss. Why not have a third party handle the dirty work? That seems like step 1 in Cheating 101 class.

Lack of Institutional Control...... time to smash....... forget the few hundred dollars... there is enough smoke AND fire to bust the door down now....

I wish Dave Bliss had enrolled in your class.

Cheating is one thing. But if you are going to do it, be smart. They should be punished for stupidity. Can not believe they don't have boosters assigned to kids to take care of this stuff. Unofficially assigned of course.

I assumed the bag man story was about Ole Miss, guess not. Or maybe his bag man was out sick that day.

How the coach seems hesitant to give him the money kind of lends credence to them not being the major cheaters we all assume. If they are shelling out thousands of dollars for signatures you would think $300 wouldn't make that coach so uncomfortable.

Dude, if you have 40 kids and their families on the payroll every month, it adds up. That's a major financial operation. You'd probably need a few analysts doing projections on electricity usage.

He was probably nervous because of the potential paper trail. Doubt he would have been as nervous if the kid had just swung by the office, and grabbed the cash behind closed doors. He was probably wondering why Tunsil didn't follow normal protocol, and talk to his friendly neighborhood bagman.

He was asking for $300 on top of his usual payments. 'I thought everything was in the rent'. This suggests that he was getting $1000-2000 in regular monthly payments for 'rent and expenses of his family'. The coach was probably uncomfortable with the out of normal channel paper trail being created as well as the unexpected additional money request.

NCAA should request the coaches' and admins' phone records to see what other texts were in the pipeline over the last couple years. Good test case to see if the NCAA has any intention of being anything more than lip service to the rules.

Hook 'em

Man, I strongly disagree with that take. This is evidence of upper-level AD staff arranging regular illicit cash disbursements to student-athletes, not of the actions of a rogue booster outside of the AD. This is one of the types of offenses for which the unpredictable NCAA is most likely to hammer a school.

1) The coaching staff and the school should be punished for this.

I don't care that "this sort of thing happens everywhere". A coach simply can't be busted giving $ directly to a player. Period. And much more is going on at Ole Mi$$.

2) The player is not at all that bright. His decisions in college and his decisions on camera and on his phone...not smart man.

3) The person that exposed this stuff online and hacked his account. Should be held liable for the millions they cost him. Not cool to extort people. Even if you are exposing "the truth"......what a horrible way to do it. On draft night, you help ruin his day. What low class. And rumors are it was a family member. What a douche. That being said, this person deserves a second chance after their jail time for extortion....so I think Bob Stoops should give them a call and give them a job and allow them to expose OUs cheating ways on twitter.

I am curious for the lawyers on the board. I imagine that determining the damages of all this would be fairly easy for a civil defamation suit, but since the info isn't false is that an absolute defense? Or is that thrown out the window because you hacked into his account?

I agree, and I don't think this kind of stuff happens everywhere anyway. $100 handshakes, purchasing meals, other free types of free stuff probably happens everywhere. Saban had someone on his staff loan Ha Ha Clinton Dix several hundred dollars. He was promptly terminated and Clinton-Dix was suspended for a few games. I believe if you have an isolated incident you let the school take care of it (like firing the assistant responsible). But there is way too much smoke coming out of Oxford for this to simply be an isolated incident.

I'm afraid a lesson will be learned in all this. That lesson will likely be, cheat your ass off. Ole Miss was a disaster prior to Freeze. Ole Miss seemed to get serious about winning in 2013, and it worked. They are a player for national recruits now, and are a top program. What they are doing works, and seems to be the wise way to build a program.
If you have ever visited Mississippi, you would understand kids are not going for free. The wild west is coming, your donors will be more important than your coach. Every 4 star in the country will have a new car, and every 5 stars mommy will enjoy their new home. This might really help the rich schools.

It's stupid that he even had to ask for money. Let the kids make money off their names, and stop robbing them of their worth. And NO, you are not worth what they are worth, that is why you paid for school. They are not just handing out scholarships, for the fun of it all. The school gets a lot more out of it. All of these so called capitalist, are all of a sudden not...unless it works out for them that is...welcome to America.

But the poor poor entitled fan, don't want him sport ruined, by someone making money. Yes, those fans are hilarious.

I want to hear the Ole Miss side of the story. I'm sure an excuse is coming, but I seriously doubt it will call off the dogs. NCAA has egg on their face, they have to do something or they look weak, I know, they are weak, but keep in mind, looking weak and being weak are two very different things.

If we are going to give amatuer athletes what they are "worth", we should cancel every sport but football and men's basketball. No other sport should exist if we are giving athletes what they are "worth".
We shouldn't make them attend school either I guess, just be honest about why they are on campus. Kind of ruins it for me.
