Lincoln Riley to USC

Re-read what you just wrote. How many times have we beaten OU in the last 10 years? How many times has EaTmE U beaten us in recruiting in the last 5 years? Do I need to talk to you about Arky after the game this year? The current roster needs a TON of change if we hope to make any impact on the SEC once we join.
A&M has beaten us in recruiting because they were in the SEC, and we weren’t

If it's true that Stoops will coach, it's a slap in the face of the assistant coaches that should be getting that honor....or...is Bob the next coach?
I think it’s just a one off deal, but it Stoops was willing to do it for a couple years given the timing that might not be the worst idea ever

Nah, Bob is done. His heart just isn't into it anymore. I'd love to see him take over OU again. The downfall they would experience would be fun to watch.

Dude, they get their a$$ whipped every time they face a big time program in the playoffs. Their offense is impressive, but the defense is a joke. SEC is going to be a big change for both UT and OU - it ain't going to be pretty for either program.

AnM is 11 games better in the SEC over the last 10 years than their final 10 in B12.

Hell, even Missouri found success lol.

If Riley takes Grinch with him then who do you think should coach the bowl game? Riley was the HC and the OC.

Maybe, possibly (but probably not), Stoops as a caretaker for a year or two while they find a really great hire. Especially if our AD can't immediately get anyone on his short list.

What a disaster.

I agree with you here. I hope we don't hire someone just to hire someone. If that person isn't available wait a year. And no nepotism hires

Kingsbury wasn't worth a crap at Tech. He has a really good qb at the Cardinals that makes him look good.
No one will ever look “good” at Tech. Mike Leach as good as he was won double digit games 1 time. It’s a 7-8win program with the occasional 9 That’s all it will ever be. Doesn’t matter who the coach is

Well. Didn’t see that coming. 😀

I’ll say this: hate to see him go, but hate even more the way it was done. I don’t begrudge him for the move…I don’t get it but he’s got to live his life. I have zero problems with it.

But that exit was bush league. Don’t ask the players….ask the parents. They’re peeved. And rightly so, I think. Just a very classless way to go out, IMHO.

And, since I already stated I’m sad to see him go so you know this isnt sour grapes, I’ll offer this as a sign of things looking better with him leaving:

2017 - Barely lose to Georgia in 2OT in the CFP
2018 - Get beat handily by Alabama in the CFP
2019 - Get prison raped by LSU in the CFP
2020 - Win Big 12, but fail to make CFP
2021 - Fail to win the Big 12

Every year under Riley OU has failed to be as good as the year before. We’ve slipped a little each year, until this year when the bottom fell out on both offense and defense. Someone much smarter than I are said it best: the sum wasn’t as good as the parts this year. That’s about how it felt as well.

I feel good about Joe C. finding a suitable replacement. He has a knack for making great hires, and I don’t see that changing.

Anyone have Tom Herman’s number? 😀

What was the classless exit? Honestly, don't know.

Not necessarily arguing with you MM, but how else was he supposed to leave? What could he have done differently?

He’s 2-1 with his backup QB this year. Kingsbury is a great QB coach and offensive coordinator. Just because a coach doesn’t have success at his first stop doesn’t mean they are a bad coach.

The one thing Kingsbury struggled with was recruiting and in the NFL he doesn’t have to worry about that. I think he would do good at a place like OU. I don’t think he’s leaving though. His contract is up after this year. His agent is using this as leverage for a new deal.

When BAYLOR is calling timeouts to run up the score on you — it’s probably time to leave. I hated him and his visor —- but you’re going to have a hard time finding an upgrade

Exactly right. If the offense (and team) were leaning so hard on Kyler Murray, as some had asserted, ARZ would not have beaten SF and SEA with a 35-year-old Colt McCoy (hey, there's a name that makes the longhorn faithful a little nostalgic) at QB. Both wins over division opponents, and both were road games by the way. K2 is the current odds on favorite for NFL coach of the year. +400 or something like. Bilicheck is next at +500. ARZ is a legit threat to get to the superbowl. No way in heck that Kliff is walking away from that.

What if we poached your boy Aranda? What would you think about OU then? :)

Don't laugh. I really think your coach might be on our AD's short list. He was Riley's kryptonite, as I'm sure you know.

If you put truth serum in me, I would admit he's the only name that gets me even a little excited. But didn't he just sign a contract extension?

I get all that. I don't thin Kingbury would leave, why would he. Having said that I would like to think he now understands the value of having a good defense because when he was at Tech, like Leach it didn't appear to be much of a priority

If I’m OU I would give Jon Gruden a call. He’s a helluva coach with extensive NFL relationships. He’s available and he’s willing to come at a discount. He was railroaded by the NFL and he definitely will come motivated and with a chip on his shoulder.

Yea whats the guy supposed to say when asked if he’s going to LSU. He answered the question correctly, he’s not going to LSU haha. It’s always tough for these coaches, there’s really no “right way” to leave.

Heck I don’t think Riley even knew he was leaving until this morning. Sounds like USC made a late night push for him after the OSU game last night.

Re: secsec

I've said over and over. Going to the secsec... If Texas is right, it doesn't matter where we are; if Texas isn't right, it doesn't matter where we are. Charlie strong's teams would've stunk up either conference. Most of Mack's teams would've been near the top of either conference. Oklahoma is in the same boat-- replace Charlie with Blake or schnellenberger, and Mack with stoops, Riley, or bootlegger's boy

Can you blame them? I mean his offense put on a clinic on how to get shut down. What's not to like? I think he's looking for an easier path. Apparently Riley let it be known that he felt unappreciated. $7.6 mil/year will do that to a woke millenial. Good riddance pu%%y

These things do tend to get messy regardless of how they are done. However I think the issue is, and it’s not unique to Riley these coaches act offended, or insulted when the media starts getting wind that you might be leaving for somewhere else, and talk about how they love the school and blah, blah, blah. Ok yeah everyone got the school wrong, but there was obviously smoke that you were leaving. I don’t know the right way coaches are suppose to answer but I can say this. Coaches should stop acting offended when they get the question

Man if I’m Sark hitting the transfer portal hard just became even more important.

Baylor is gonna be replacing most of their starters
Ok state is losing almost all of its starting defense
TCU is breaking in a new staff
Iowa state loses its QB and star RB
Now OU is in complete disarray.

There is a real opportunity in the conference next year if Sark can fill some roster holes

Feel same as Bell. Hope Aranda, Fickle and Traylor are on Joe C's short list.

I made a comment on here that very game about Riley acting all pissed off and tough to the refs about the crowd rushing the field but I never once saw him yell at any of his players during the game when they were getting manhandled. I'm glad he's gone. Look at this pic of prima donna Riley all upset after the loss and the kicked fg by Baylor.

I’m sure they are, but if those guys weren’t interested in LSU, or USC I doubt OU being open all the sudden changes their minds

USC has never paid a HC top tier money. Helton was their highest paid coach ever at $4.8 MM.

This is very interesting

you can keep Dykes and his Leach pedigree, TCU. I'm just praying Riley's brother doesn't somehow find his way to OU. Hopefully Riley taking recruits with him will sour OU on hiring another Riley

Yep, that is the day Riley threw one of his high heels at the refs and the other at Aranda
