They just pulled off one of the best hires in a long time. Gotta give them credit for that. They got the #1 HC candidate that everyone wanted.
Oh, I certainly give them credit. I'm just shocked they pulled it off, given what I said above.

I don’t believe that for a second. Some OU fans are saying Riley may have been swaying recruits to USC for a bit. If true(not sure how you’d prove it) but that’s bad
I do think he has known he was leaving OU for a little while. I don’t get the feeling USC called last night and he was the coach by 3 o clock this afternoon. I mean anyone that has a wife and kids knows that’s not how big decisions go down I don’t care how much money is on the table
He must have really wanted out of Oklahoma. I just don’t see the benefits of leaving from a football perspective. OU is better than USC right now and going forward. Now Ok vs Cali maybe why he’s leaving but I would assume he’s gonna be paying hefty taxes compared to Ok. His family must be tired of Ok is the only thing I can see. If he’s into winning I’d stay at OU. Rebuilding USC will be fun with all the money being thrown at him but can he get them back to where they were. I don’t know.
Lots of positives of USC over OU. Much harder to recruit at OU since he has to pull most of his recruits from Texas or out of state. California is a talent rich state and USC has a built in recruiting advantage. The school sells itself and he can just recruit California kids and call it a day.He must have really wanted out of Oklahoma. I just don’t see the benefits of leaving from a football perspective. When is the last time you were in LA? If you prefer graffiti everywhere, trash on the sidewalks, homeless camps everywhere, smash-and-grabs, mask requirements and being worn outside then LA is for you.Lots of positives of USC over OU. Much easier to win in the PAC 12 versus the SEC. Who is his main competition in the pac12 ? Nobody. Also, no offense to Norman, OK but I would rather live in Los Ángeles everyday of the week lol.
Smart decision by Riley to leave.
OK > CA
OU > USC
. . . especially if you have a family.

My mother has lived in Long Beach for 20 years now and I can assure you I would never want to live in that shithole. The cost of living is through the roof and the people for the most part are assholes.Lots of positives of USC over OU. You can’t escape all of the factors I listed above regardless of how much money you make. If you want to have daily discussions with your kids about why there’s graffiti on every street sign, or why there are tents on the sidewalk, or why there’s so much trash on the side of the road, then go for it. It’s inescapable no matter where you live and those issues grate on you the longer you’re there. Tough place to raise a family. Good luck to his family. Not when you're making $12M a year.
SoCal weather >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ok weather
If you are rich or wealthy yes LA is I guess preferable because you can avoid all the crap LA has or is. BUT I would not want to live there it’s trash. Now Cali definitely has its nice areas but LA aint one of them.Nobody. Also, no offense to Norman, OK but I would rather live in Los Ángeles everyday of the week lol.

13.3% is the top CA income tax rate. That’s paid on income over ~ $1.2 million.I agree with all of your points except living in California. California is a cell pool with ridiculous taxes and restrictions. That said, I don't blame Riley for moving on. He will kill it at USC. I see OU taking a pretty big step back going forward.
JDCPAgolferHorn, what is the state tax rate in Cali? I'm curious what that $12M annual salary will net out at.

If I'm raising a family I'm living in Newport or Corona Del Mar. They're in Orange County where the government is a bit less oppressive. Plus, you can shield yourself a bit more (not entirely) from the issues I've outlined above.Malibu? Newport?
All true. Been there countless times. It doesn't look safe because it's not safe. Hwy 110 is the major artery to get to campus from the north and south. Tent cities are everywhere on all the overpasses on the 110 approaching the campus. It's definitely an urban environment and some folks don't mind that type of grit. To each his own.Has anyone here ever visited USC? The campus is beautiful...behind brick walls. Go outside of the brick walls, and it doesn't look very safe. Its not Beverly Hills.
Yeah but look at what he’s taking over. No doubt he can improve that team and the recruiting will be much easier for him out there. He hit his ceiling at OU a couple of years ago. He’ll do well out there in the PAC 12. I don’t wish him ill will but I’m satisfied with the move even if it means a rough transition. He must have really wanted out of Oklahoma. This right here. 12 mil for Riley chucklz, no way OU would consider matching that. Not when you're making $12M a year.

You can’t seriously believe this. You couldn’t pay me enough to live in OK.OK > CA
OU > USC

Do taxes really matter when you’re already wealthy and making $12MM a year. Sure he could save a million or so in taxes by staying at OU, but when you’re making $12MM in California, who cares about taxes lol.I agree with all of your points except living in California. You have obviously never lived or spent extended periods of time in Southern California. It's not all it's cracked up to be I can assure you of that. You can’t seriously believe this. You couldn’t pay me enough to live in OK.

Only those that have actually lived in LA County know this to be true. You have obviously never lived or spent extended periods of time in Southern California. It's not all it's cracked up to be I can assure you of that.
Yes, taxes do matter even to the wealthy. Why do you think so many PGA tour players live in FL? No state income tax.Do taxes really matter when you’re already wealthy and making $12MM a year. I would live up in Northern California if I lived anywhere in the state. I vacationed up at Lake Almanor a couple years back and really enjoyed the area. It's a really conservative part of the state and the people there were really friendly. You couldn't pay me enough to live in the cesspool that California is. The arm pit of America.
Yeah not sure all of California is a “cess pool” I would say LA is definitely. I’ve been up and down the coast and I can say all Cali isn’t LA. Would I live there no but that’s due to cost of living and traffic. My family is in East LA and I visit for a day or so then it’s off to better views.I would live up in Northern California if I lived anywhere in the state. I had a telephone conversation last night with a good friend that lives in a very nice enclave of LA. He's very conservative but can't/won't move because of his 90 year old mother who can't leave. You have obviously never lived or spent extended periods of time in Southern California. When I go to visit my mother in Long Beach we ride the train from Long Beach into LA because I despise the traffic there. I can't tell you i've been through about every square inch of LA County and it's not as pretty as many make it out to be. It's actually really dirty place.I had a telephone conversation last night with a good friend that lives in a very nice enclave of LA. There was a loiterer/homeless person who had spent several days at the common area park at the entrance to his very nice neighborhood. The park is within his neighborhood and part of his HOA, not part of the city.
My friend went to his neighbors to get ideas on how to deal with the situation. The neighbors - very liberal - wanted to show "compassion" and provide the person with food, water, and a tent, rather than direct the individual to the right resources outside of the neighborhood.
So, the individual lived in the tent in my friend's neighborhood for a couple of weeks before one day it was no longer there.
Not an uncommon story.
