Plenty to like about Venables.

He's had Clemson's defense in the top ten every year since 2016. And believe it or not, defense is still how you win championships.

I'm fine with this if true. Venables doesn't concern me. Campbell or Aranda would be a better hire IMO.
That is a fake Twitter account lol. Look at how report is spelled.

When is the last time a coach left on good terms with admin, players, etc.? LOL.

These things never go well.
Heard that Riley's announcement to the team only lasted a couple of minutes. Either everyone got choked up and no more words could be uttered or it went south and he vacated the premises quickly.

Straight from the horses mouth. He loves LA lol.

Very funny. I'd bet he stated all those things as a way to rationalize why he was leaving. He wasn't going to state publicly that he didn't want to go to the SEC. Otherwise, he would have you believe that he wants to expose his family to all of the unsavory things that comes with living in the area. Even if you're living in Newport or Malibu, you still have to travel to the stadium. That alone represents a teaching moment for the young ones. =)roll

If you are rich or wealthy yes LA is I guess preferable because you can avoid all the crap LA has or is. BUT I would not want to live there it’s trash. Now Cali definitely has its nice areas but LA aint one of them.
You can simply take a helicopter to work everyday.

Ok look I know if you live in the Midwest and especially if you consider yourself a conservative politically you’ve been trained and conditioned to believe everything about California sucks, and all that. I get that, but anyone saying they’d rather live in Norman, Oklahoma than LA or anywhere in southern CA is just silly. Are there places I wouldn’t go in LA? Absolutely, but every major city in America has areas that you best not be. Are there downsides to living in CA? Sure but again there are everywhere. But sign me up for California over anywhere in the state of Oklahoma. Not even a contest

I really think you guys are overrating the SEC. Texas has played the SEC very well over the last few years.

beat UGA, Beat Missouri

played the eventual champ LSU tough. Once you get past Bama and UGA the SEC isn’t amazing
Can you tell me another conference that is amazing beyond their top 2 or 3? I will say the SEC has been down a bit from normal the past couple of years. I would say the Big 10 might be the deepest this year but the SEC is still going to be extremely tough early on. The physicality and trenches is what you aren’t used to. OU is soft as hell on defense and Texas has been getting mauled in the trenches. Both schools will adjust and I honestly don’t think it will take THAT long to do so.

That’s my point though the SEC had this narrative going that every team is amazing, and the truth is usually it’s no different than every other conference 2-3 top teams and a bunch of teams mid pack

The last 2 years I would agree with you but the history favors the SEC with multiple teams winning national championships. PAC has USC with natty, Big 12 has OU and Texas. ACC has Clemson, Florida St and Miami..yes older but they have history. SEC has Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, And Florida and possibly Georgia this year that have won in the past 25 years. SEC just hasn’t come together as a whole the past couple of years so I will agree about the past couple of years

I can assure you with 110% guarantee I would rather live in Norman over LA any day of the week. Spent a ton of time in Southern California the last 20 years and it’s just not for me. I prefer small rural living over the big city any day of the week.

Nice vacation spot but nothing more.

Multiple teams have won national titles in the SEC but it’s not like everyone is amazing at the same time. When FL was winning titles with Urban Saban want at Alabama, when LSU won theirs with les miles Auburn and UGA hadn’t gotten real good yet and as Paul finebaum has reminded Alabama fans many times. Saban isn’t coaching forever and pre Saban you were a dumpster fire, so enjoy it

I went out on my roof top balcony the morning that Kobe's helicopter went down and it was extremely foggy. I was living in the Valley at the time. I could hear the sound of a helicopter circling overhead - couldn't see it because of the fog but I heard it circling. Not unusual as law enforcement helicopters constantly patrol the skies. Only this time, it wasn't law enforcement.
Only later when I saw the route that Kobe's helicopter took from Newport Beach to Calabasas and the timing of that route did I realize it was his helicopter that I heard. Very unnerving.

Maybe if you are 30 have a good job and are single. Or if you are 50 and bought a house in a good neighborhood 25 years ago. But after 50 years in San Francisco, and I did enjoy the weather and restaurants, can't wait to get the house built on a big lot in Norman. With the absurd price of housing here, no more mortgage payments. Thanks California!

What’s funny is. All the tech and other companies cite housing prices as the reason they are leaving, but the tech boom in CA is a big reason for the surge in housing prices in California. It’s not the only factor but it’s a big factor, so the same thing will happen wherever they decide to relocate to(Austin right now)

This 100%. No matter which way you lean politically, LA is still 100 times better than Norman, especially if you’re making $12MM A year.

For Kobe, that was an extremely heavy price to pay for traveling.

It's not a political issue. If you're 30ish, single, and full of fluid and ready to do it, one can live anywhere. You won't notice the crime, graffiti on street signs, your car getting broken into, etc. Or, it won't grate on you for a few years.
If you're raising a family, there are additional issues you will have to confront in raising your kids even if you live in a very nice area. You will still see homeless encampments, you will still have to explain to your kids why they have to wear their masks in all places indoors while they didn't have to in OK, you will have to explain to visitors coming in from out of state why there is trash on the side of the highways and graffiti everywhere. There's just a lot of additional teaching opportunities with kids that you don't have in OK. Money doesn't weigh into that analysis.

Actually no the I believe I said that CDC probably should of just let Herman go first if that’s what he wanted to do.
I’m not advocating that Riley should of told the admin “hey I’m talking to USC” but he has clearly known for at least a few days that he was going for sure. Could of gave them a heads up and not just left them to find out on Twitter

Maybe admin decided to join a different conference without a heads up???

There is crime and Graffiti everywhere I live just outside of Kansas City Missouri smack dab in the Midwest we rank 7th in the nation in murders, and I can show you some parts of the city that would scare the shit out of you. Those problems don’t exist only in California. In fact they are worse in other parts of the country every state has crime it’s not unique to California, it doesn’t just exist in liberal America it’s a fact of life everywhere

Wrong.

Wrong about what?
That we rank 7th in the nation in murders? We do
Wrong that there are places in Kansas City you wouldn’t want to be? Trust me there are
Wrong that there is crime everywhere? Not even sure how that’s debatable. Unless you just live out in the middle of nowhere by yourself crime is around you somewhere. Hell one of the centers of the opioid crisis in this country is a town in Ohio of all places.

The statement “it’s a fact of life everywhere” is patently false. The assertion is overly broad. Those issues are not a fact of life for me where I currently live, so the assertion is false.

I imagine Lincoln was told. He reportedly didn’t like the idea but he was told
Joe Castiglione confirmed Riley was aware of there being a potential move to the SEC and Riley appeared to be on board with it at the time. From what I gathered form watching Castiglione's interview was that Riley was consulted as were the other athletic coaches at OU but Castiglione made it sound like those conversations with Riley etal were while it was still up in the air but that "potentially" a move to the SEC could become a reality. Regardless, in my opinion Riley realizes the USC job is probably a lot easier in terms of recruiting. I would think any coach worth a dang could turn a 4-7 USC team into a winning team in the 1st year or 2 especially if they can recruit as well as Riley is able to. I do think he weighed his options between the SEC and the PAC12 and did what he felt was best for him. Can't fault him for that imo.

I don't really believe Riley's timeline and apparently the LA Times doesn't either. It would have been nice of him to give some sort of head's up just as a common courtesy to the Admin for their coaching search and with signing day around the corner. I'd be curious to hear Riley's pitch to the recruits the last couple of months, I have a feeling he wasn't making a pitch for OU but rather for Lincoln Riley himself.
