Lincoln Riley to USC

If it’s true that the AD found out through Twitter that’s pretty bad. I mean I can’t blame Riley for doing what he believes is best for his family, but he certainly could it and should of handled it better. I mean his DC and a couple others went with him this morning to LA. No way all that came together between the time the game ended and Sunday afternoon. There just isn’t any way

Some are speculating it started in Sep. I’m shocked Stoops etc. didn’t know. I don’t really understand why he wouldn’t have given the AD etc. a heads up considering all that was done for him by Stoops et Al. This may go back to Riley not having a say in the move to the SEC but why should he? He’s not the only coach at OU. Apparently he wasn’t happy about the move

Wouldn’t surprise me. It had been going on for awhile it appears. I can’t imagine Riley called Grinch, and 2 other coaches Saturday night at midnight and go “hey leaving for USC wanna come?” And they are all on a plane Monday. Just not the way these things work. I also think other coaches knew. I posted a tweet in another thread that a reported sent out Friday night that basically said “look out the next 48-72 hours are going to be wild”. So there was a lot of smoke

When I go to visit my mother in Long Beach we ride the train from Long Beach into LA because I despise the traffic there. I can't tell you i've been through about every square inch of LA County and it's not as pretty as many make it out to be. It's actually really dirty place.

Yeah...if you're inside the 5-405-10 corridor then best of luck to ya!

Do you like the Venables hire, if it comes to fruition?

You have obviously never lived or spent extended periods of time in Southern California. It's not all it's cracked up to be I can assure you of that.
Ok it might not be all it’s cracked up to be but most people in America would probably rather live in LA versus norman, OK. Los Ángeles wouldn’t be my first choice of places to live but Norman would probably be towards the bottom of my list.

The California lifestyle is still desirable to a lot of people despite what everyone says on here. Look at Lebron, he could’ve gone anywhere he wanted but he wanted to be in LA for a reason.

When is the last time a coach left on good terms with admin, players, etc.? LOL.

These things never go well.

You were an advocate last year for ADs looking around while a Coach is under contract. It's pretty hypocritical to expect a coach to tell the admin that he might be leaving after the season as well.

If you're okay with admin looking around, be okay with coaches looking around.

Actually no the I believe I said that CDC probably should of just let Herman go first if that’s what he wanted to do.
I’m not advocating that Riley should of told the admin “hey I’m talking to USC” but he has clearly known for at least a few days that he was going for sure. Could of gave them a heads up and not just left them to find out on Twitter

LA vs Norman plus this: Not too shabby
Lincoln Riley USC contract details (not confirmed; best I could do) Per Robert Hefner
- $110 million
- USC buying both his homes in Norman for $500,000 over asking ($1 million bonus)
- Buying a $6 million home in LA for him
- Unlimited use of the private jet 24/7 for family

You didn't answer my prior question . . . when was the last time you were in LA? The "California lifestyle" isn't what it used to be and it's going downhill every single day. I doubt that some mythical CA lifestyle is still desirable. I won't repeat the factors I indicated in a post above.

Lebron didn't go to the Lakers only for the "California lifestyle". He went for the Lakers (the team) and because he had a multi-media business.

I travel to LA frequently for work. I was there a few weeks ago.

So are you saying you’d rather live in Norman over LA?? Come on man that’s a ridiculous take and you know it.

This was reported earlier. Sounds like Riley disagrees with you and the LA lifestyle was appealing to him.

Equal $, I'd take OK over LA. Way easier to raise a family and I can easily spend the off season at a second home in Aspen or Sea Island, GA or Naples. Again, different strokes for different folks. Traveling there is a lot different than living there.

I would bet money that this whole deal transpired within the last 2-3 weeks. I don’t think he has known about it since September. The secret would have been leaked from somewhere if that was the case. I could be wrong but I have a hard time believing that.

That’s great and all. But per Bruce Feldman, Riley wanted to live in LA.

I'm fine with this if true. Venables doesn't concern me. Campbell or Aranda would be a better hire IMO.

I agree with you. He stops the bleeding but that’s about all he does. None of the recruits that decommited or players that may or may not enter the transfer portal are swayed by this
