Lincoln Riley to USC

With the developments of the last few weeks Sark may of wrestled control of this state away from OU and A&M
HAHAHA. How about you all concentrate on winning home games against teams like Kansas, playing a full 4 Quarters before running out of gas, and having winning seasons before you start talking about wrestling control away from programs that have been far better than UT over the last decade. I know after last season y’all need optimism from anywhere you can find it but OU will not see as much drop off next year as you all think.

Who needs brakes when you run out of gas?

How bout I talk about what I want, and you mind your business

I'm the opposite. Venables won't duplicate the success that Riley did. Put me down for that. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Riley was slipping. I think the shake up actually worked out better for OU long term than going into the SEC with Riley would’ve. Venables is a better DC than Grinch and Lebby is as good or better than Riley (and much better than Riley with his foot out the door). We’ll see what happens in the cotton bowl.

And it looks like Venables made up a lot of recruiting ground in a week on the job. OU fans are just fine without Riley.

I'm sure it'll improve but for $12mil./year if I'm USC fan I'm not too happy seeing my team ranked 98th on the early recruiting ranking plus not having any OU players follow Riley? I don't know.......

Riley uses H-backs and TE better than anyone I've seen in a long time.

Yes, it's kind of interesting to see the drop-off in production this year after the guy who actually coached the H-backs and tight ends left to go to South Carolina.

Two more verbals today to move into the 2022 top ten. The sky is falling at OU.

Looks ok to me. UT usually higher than OU in recruiting rankings. Makes sense given the number of terrific HS players in Texas. But OU usually gets its share. And worked out pretty good the last 20 years.

Y’all are gonna be great. No issues with Venables. OU fans were sad to see him go. And he’s a better HC than Riley. I’m excited for y’all’s next 5 years. 3 nattys coming up!!

No way. Texas has already been awarded the next three nattys with a quarterback who has yet to attempt a pass in college. The only thing missing is the "We're baaaaaaack!" declaration.

OK Weev. Blake got canned in '98. OU hasn't fired any head coach since then. No need to. How about you guys?

Agree Riley was successful. Until this year when something was obviously off. Luckily, he recruited enough talent (CW) to get OU through the year. But D really declined. So if OU can keep CW and with Venables success on D OU should be fine. Doubt our fans will be clamoring OU to fire him next year. Especially since OU starts with Nebraska. And Horns have to play Alabama. Not that it will not make any difference in the RRS. Almost never does.

I'd love to see OU try to compete without players from Texas. They couldn't. What is sickening for Texas fans is to see good players leave the state to go play for that program. Gross.

Unrelated but the RRS just got a funny shout out by Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy Fallon in a skit on the tonight show tonight. Love this rivalry. Enjoying the heck out the the sh*t talking today, glad we get to keep it going into the SEC!

All that matters is whether Pole Assassin’s monkey sees it’s shadow.

There’s only one Pole Assassin

4 Star TE Kaden Helms to OU. It’s either Sooner Magic or a Christmas Miracle come early. If we can just sign Tiny Tim my Christmas wishes will have come true. Oh and F$&k Riley in his soft ass

Here’s the deal I don’t think you’re going to find many Sooner fans thinking Riley was a good head coach. Riley was a good OC but a head scratcher as a head coach. I think Lebby will at least prove Riley’s equal as OC. Just my .02

I think it's comical that a guy that most Sooners wanted to run out of town in Venables is now ultimately this saving grace. It's just kind of ironic to me.

That’s what winning championships will do for someone. It’s well documented that Clemson D was Venables solely. He got Clemson to hire some analysts which probably helped. He’s stepping into a management role now so it’s a little different and appears to be knocking it out of the park so far.

Venables is a great defensive mind and there's no denying that but stepping into a head coaching role is a whole different animal. He might end up better than Stoops and Riley for all we know. But he could end up like John Blake for all we know. To think success is guaranteed is blind hope.

Yep. The odds are better that Venables will be worse than Riley. Lot's of blind optimism by OU fans for a feel good hire. They could have hired a better HC than BV. Won't hurt my feelings to see OU take a step back and taste some humility. They're long overdue for it.

Blind optimism is what us fans do. Hell, we're doing it with Ewers, lol.

My issue is with saying Riley is a below average coach. That's just being a purposeful idiot just cause.

Another thing. Has anyone noticed that the SEC is trending offense...and Big 12 is trending defense? Interesting how offenses and defenses evolve.

The overall defensive numbers having been trending upwards for the past 3-4 seasons in the SEC.

“Better” is subjective. Time will tell. But, yes, I agree they could have hired one of the guys who jumps ship every three or four years. Instead, they decided to go with a guy who will likely finish his coaching career at Oklahoma.

Unless they run him off if he doesn't win. Lol at you guys who think this is a sure thing/home run hire. He's probably 50-50 to meet expectations there.

MM tell me this, what attributes did Bob Stoops have that BV doesn't possess? We all know that NIL, Coordinators are who makes you or breaks you in this current day of cfb. By all accounts everyone including recruits seem to like Venables and players seem to really enjoy playing for him. There are other factors that play into the process, it's not just black and white. Do you really think those 5 stars are going to A&M to play for Jumbo because of A&M's record or because of Jumbo's coaching prowess? Hell no, it's money driven. What made a guy a good HC even 2 years ago may have no bearing on today. The portal etc. are changing the game. Look at ISU for example. Not sure what's up over there but it doesn't look good

Riley is most definitely a very average head coach. Riley is a good OC whose scheme was Big 12 good for about 4 solid years. The gimmicks started getting exposed regularly.
