Is it just me or....... did anybody else just love seeing old a$$ Manu make James "prima Donna" Hardin look like a complete punk last night?

That's the difference between old school and millennial.

Harden = 3 turnovers in OT plus getting stuffed cleanly on the penultimate play. I don't know if Manu can do that for 48 minutes anymore, but he certainly can do it for 5 minutes when it mattered.

In the words of Sir Charles "Ginoooooooooooobli...". With that said, I would take Harden in a heartbeat. Not over Leonard, James or Durant, but definitely over Westbrook. I don't know if I would consider him a prima donna, as he has been pretty cool this year "team wise", all about winning. The only thing that I can think of off the court question mark was the period he dated a Skank-dashian.

I REALLY hope that Leonard is not hurt to badly. LA still needs to step up bigger. GSG!!

i'm a mavs fan but if you think manu is or ever was capable of being the alpha on a 60 win team, you're wrong. he had a good night. he was averaging 3 ppg in the playoffs until last night. the other guy should win the mvp.

Don't care about NBA bball, flop fest. I might watch a few mins of the finals... but that's it. Unless we were talking about the Mavs in their prime a few years back.

I'd disagree with that statement. Manu is one of the most accomplished basketball players ever(nba, national, olympic). For the better part of his career he would have been more than capable to be the #1 guy. He's also a MAJOR reason the Spurs have enjoyed one of most successful streaks in all of major sports.

Manu is a winner, always has been.

I'm not a Spurs fan at all. Can't stand Popovich's rudeness towards others and his arrogance. Guy is a grade-A a-hole.

Popovich reminds me of Belichick. Direct and doesn't like stupid questions but I'll take him as a coach any day. The guy is about results and I wouldn't doubt he is an A-hole when it comes to his profession. Most winners are!

I'm no Spurs fan but I respect that organization for doing what it's done. F the Mavs though!

Then you don't know him at all.
Life long Spurs fan here and I have had personal interaction with Pop outside of bball. From MY experience he can be the most generous & engaging guy around BUT...........flip the wrong switch or hit the hot topic button and yuuuuup, grade A++ asshole.
I like Pop now but despised him when he assumed the HC position way back when. I can appreciate someone who doesn't care what anyone thinks or says about him. Oozes integrity while bucking the norm. The results speak for themselves.

Then you don't know him at all.

I don't like the way that he berates people in the media and is condescending towards them. They're just trying to do their job. Pop has no right to treat them the way that he does and act like an asshole towards them. It speaks about his integrity as a person how he treats people.

You didnt like Pop when he became coach?....My God!....dont tell me you were in line with that pansy ass Kevin O'keef?...He was the biggest liar in the sports writing business.....whinned and whinned that his boy Bob Hill got canned....of course Hill went out of sight quickly and it became obvious that the Spurs made the correct choice going with Pop

Manu is a bad boy. Ask any NBA star about him and they'll tell you that he can play on their team anytime. He didn't come to the NBA until he was 25. If he had come to the NBA earlier his career would have been even better, the Spurs would have won at least one more title. I predict that he will be elected into the basketball hall of fame in his first year of eligibility.

That shot block was clean Harden didn't even see him. He must continue to do this it hurts to lose Tony Parker and his experience. But don't count Manu out. David Lee was on the Warriors team that won the title two years ago but he can contribute. But everything is riding on Kawhil Leonard's injury. The fact that he didn't even play in overtime is telling.

I to wish GP would not be so rude to the writers. But GP is a cultured, well read man, can be very articulate in interviews. Dyk, that he graduated from the Air Force Academy with a degree in Soviet Studies? The difference between him and Phil Jackson is that unlike Phil, Popovich isn't conceited about it.

Am I misremembering ... or was Pop the GM who fired Hill after Robinson got hurt and they were assured of getting Duncan?

Yep, in 1996 GM Pop fired Hill and assumed the HC position. I think it happened after the Admirals 1st game back from injury. A few games later Robinson broke his foot & the Spurs sucked hind tit all the way to drafting Tim Duncan.

Most fans did not like GM Pop & thought it was karma the way the season turned out. I was one of those fans. Little did we know how everything would work out soon after. This is the reason I don't talk bad about new UT hires until they've officially earned it.

MM, pop does not suffer fools lightly. He is an officer in the United States airforce (captain) that attended the air force Academy. His public personal is his "schtick". Craig Sager used to interview pop at halftime whilst wearing those ridiculous suits. Pop would ALWAYS bust his balls and for years I thought pop didn't like him.
Then one day Sager was gone due to chemo treatments for cancer and Sagar's son stood in for his old man. Pop looked at him and basically said "Look, I don't want to answer any questions, I want you to go home and tell your dad to get well now and get his ass back out here".

I almost cried like a baby.

Ok. He's still a condescending asshole to 99% of the media though. Pop is a damn good coach, but is severely lacking in social skills. Its hard to root for a guy like that.

I could not disagree more. I think most fans LOVED Pop as a GM. The Spurs had had great success under Larry Brown and Brown made it known that Pop was the reason for his success. He thought Pop was a witch at designing last second plays. Pop did fire Hill and then insert himself as coach The lead writer at the time, Kevin O'Keef hated Pop because Pop would not give him any interviews. O;Keef threw away his career for biased and untrue critisism of Pop which exposed his own lack of journalistic integrity.....you could say he fired himself. Time went on to show that Pop was indeed the right man for the job and Bob Hill was not all that as a coach. Hill was forever out of the pro game and soon out as a second tier college coach as well. Pop will go to the HOF

Different strokes for different folks. Nobody I knew liked him at the time and blamed him for not being able to get over the hump with D Rob due to a super short leash & reported micromanagement. Again, I'm super glad we were wrong.

nothing wrong with that Fresh. I remember that everyone I knew was pissed that Pop had gone to Golden State after being assistant coach here and the talk shows were always bitching about losing Pop to Golden State.

What I remember most about that time was that weasel O'Keef doing his best to get Pop fired. He flat out lied about the way things went down and was caught at it and canned. He then tried spreading his BS on a local community rag until they got tired of him. I always wondered what happened to him but a journalist that has been canned for lack of integrity has trouble getting a job in that field ever again.....good riddance as far as I was concerned.

If you remember it differently I have no issue. I also seem to remember that I was the smartest and best looking guy in HS, but everyone I talk to disputes that....go figure.

Well for what it's worth, my memory is about as long as my pecker.

One of the worst ways to pick a team to win is the good as your last game way. But I think tonight the Rockets will win. Hardin will have a big game and with an uncertain Kawhi Leonard I think we will have a Game 7 on Mothers Day in San Antonio. And I see the Spurs winning the series.

In the Eastern Conference I see the Celtics taking Game 6 tomorrow night in DC.

Since I was born and raised in SA seeing Kevin O' Keefe's name pop up in this thread made me want to stop and look to see whatever happened to him. I saw that he died last year because of heart trouble. Sorry for his family but he was a terrible writer. But the SA newspapers never had any talent Buck Harvey was just as bad as O' Keefe.

It's been a fun series to watch. I'm a Rockets fan and I've enjoyed this back and forth between the two Texas teams and I do respect the Spurs. But F the Mavs!

Greg Popovich was very hurt by Craig Sager's passing. He went to his funeral. Towards the end they were a pretty good act with the sideline interviews. And GP is good with Doris Burke. DB actually played womens bb at Providence and I think she was an AA so he treats her like someone who played the game when she interviews him. As for anyone else well ........ good luck.

Another thing. The day after Donald Trump's election GP was being interviewed and someone asked him about it. And the man who is so curt in interviews talked non stop. He let everyone know how he felt about it. And like I said he is an articulate, well read, man.

He was also the GM on the first two, and maybe the third championship team. After Tim Duncan was drafted he told David Robinson that he was going to be second banana and to his credit DR accepted it. Then he went out and found the perfect pieces to compliment Tim Duncan's game. Players like Steve Kerr, Mario Ehle, Malik Rose, and he brought back Avery Johnson. Later on he brought in players who were at the end of their careers and he got them a championship ring. I"m talking about guys like Glenn Robinson, Kevin Willis, and Michael Finley. He drafted Manu 3 years before he started playing for the Spurs. He drafted Tony Parker. I was thinking wth? But Greg knew what he was doing. RC Buford is the GM now acquisitions like Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldredge were his but GP groomed him. In short he's done it all.

One last thing. Last summer he was named head coach of the 2020 US Olympic bb team. I can't think of any coach more worthy of such a privledge.

Olympic coach? Perfect. I think he is fluent in Russian and several Slavic languages....He could be rude and condescending to all the Refs in their own language

Spurs just finished off clobbering Rockets to advance to face the Warriors. Should be a fun series! Hopefully everyone gets healthy.
Oh, and a couple of Longhorns get to face off!

GSG!!

Wow I certainly didn't see this coming. I thought sure, the Spurs can put it away without Kawhi but not like this.

Wanna know why they did?

LaMarcus Aldridge that's why.

LA came to the Spurs last year as a free agent. He spent his first 9 years in Portland and I think he's been in a couple of All Star games. But the trail blazers never came close to winning it all so he came to San Antonio. Last year the Spurs were upset by OKC because Russell Westbrook came up huge. But now after 11 years in the league LaMarcus is going to play in the conference finals.

The way he played tonight has to rank in his personal top 5. With Kawhi out LaMarcus Aldridge put the Spurs on his shoulders and took them home. He ended up 34 points and 12 boards. And I just saw that KL is going to play in Game 1 on Sunday. But tonight it was LaMarcus. He was representing burnt orange with pride.

HOOKEM LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE !!!!!!!!!!
