Willie Nelson is an American icon, not just a Texas hero. To say he is "average" in any sense of the word exemplifies blind hate and jealousy of the great state of Texas, nothing more. The word you're looking for is gravitas. There's a reason he's commanded respect for decades.

Uh I live in Texas and think it's great. My opinion has nothing to do with jealously of Texas.

So, I'm saying I like one Texan's singing over another Texan's but I have a jealousy of Texas? Oh ok, makes perfect sense. Oh wait, you thought Buck was an okie? No Scholz, Buck was born a Texan. You're welcome for the education.

Buck is known for the Bakersville, Ca. sound. Willie is a representative of Texas. We all know where you're coming from with your opinion, okie no matter where you reside or where Buck was born.

You are welcome again, Scholz.

You are dishonest. Either that or you are just so stupid you don't know what you have said. Out of those 2 things neither is that good.
Hey swvahorn, you know a couple posts up when I was laughing at tge list Harry Buffalo posted and saying no way Willie should be ranked higher than George Jones, George Strait or Hank Williams? To hear Scholz tell it, it's because I have something against Willie because he's from Texas. Please don't let him know where Buck, Strait and Jones are from, it will blow his whole theory. Haha

Saying Willie is average in any way speaks to a bias. It's a retarded opinion. So you tell me where that comes from, obsessed okie.

You are the ONLY person on this board who thinks Buck Owens is better than Willie Nelson. What education have you given anyone? You are just digging deeper and deeper into this obsession you have with thinking you are smarter than everyone else....You are the one receiving an education not me and not us. You should have learned from this thread that MOST people like Willie better than Buck...now whether you got that or not is something else. You can't seem to admit when you are wrong. So you do your thing and throw misdirection and try and change the argument to fit your babble. You make yourself seem childish at best and stupid at worst. All of us are wrong every once in awhile. Try manning up and admitting it instead of digging deeper. Maybe you will earn some respect from it.

I sometimes forget how good George Jones was. I was listening today and "The door" came on. Pretty powerful song. Anyone who likes Jones, and hasn't heard it should check it out.

I just find it hard to respect the opinion of anyone that thinks that Johnny Paycheck should be considered one of the greats.
Paycheck is not as accomplished as Willie, Haggard, Jones, Buck but my opinion is he is very underrated as a singer/songwriter but I know Wikipedia didn't tell you that. Who cares if you respect my opinion.

Haha. Since you replied to what he said it looks like you care. Hey it's ok bell. Can't you let the slightest disagreement to your position go by? Not life or death. If I was on y'alls board (never will be) I would act like a guest.

Acting like a guest doesn't mean letting some guy gleening his knowledge from Wikipedia insult you as someone he can't respect the opinion of.

Awww come on Bell. You know you do. Actually, I have agreed with much of your argument on this subject.I also think that ones taste and preference in country music ( or any music for that matter) is very subjective and the fact that the argument becomes impassioned is a good thing. I know someone that maintains ( quite passionately I might add ) that there are only two kinds of music.....good and bad. How you define those is strictly personal.

This is the type thing that we debate when there is no football. I am ready to move on to another subjective argument....one that has great importance....where do you find the best link sausage in central Texas, or anywhere for that matter. By far, the best found anywhere was at the Bon Ton grocery in Kyle Texas. However the place burned down and since then I have been unable to confirm whether they moved to a new location. I heard rumors that they moved to Uhland, but I couldnt confirm that. I know the truth is out there.....now yall get on that!

Take this topic and shove it ain't arguing here no more....that sooner is a regular dog the aggy is a fool...

Johnny Paycheck TRIED to sound like George Jones. Buck Owens should be fairly far removed from the Mount Rushmore of Country Music. And as far as a singer, Willie was originally known for his unbelievably singular voice. His Songwriting and abilities as a guitarist move him even closer to the top of the all-time list IMO.

And just

Ah I see so you posted a trash ranking by a columnist that had Willie above Jones, Strait,Williams etc. You like Willie, good for you. Great songwriter, average voice in my opinion. Texas icon no doubt and a great person by all accounts

Billboard is a 'trash ranking?' Ok...

Why has nobody mentioned Jimmy Rodgers?....He was after all the father of Country music.and damned good by the way....until you have heard "sittin' on the water tank, waitin' for a train" you havnt heard country music. Nobody has mentioned Waylon Jennings....and ya'll left out Bob Wills??? .....Jeeeze! Where is Lefty Frizzel in this conversation?....and for you Bell....Buck Owens is the ONLY country guy to have one of his # 1 hits covered by the Beatles.

In the end, that guy was right.....only 2 kinds of music...good and bad. Hell, I am a Shake Russel man myself.

Definitely agree about Bob Wills, Waylon Jennings. The recordings and shows Haggard did with the Texas Playboys after Bob Wills died are pretty good plus he was on the last Bob Wills album. Anybody who ever went to one of Haggard shows knows he did at least 4 or 5 Bob Wills tunes every show. I believe Haggard said he was also heavily influenced by Lefty, Wynn Stewart and of course Jimmy Rodgers as you mentioned.
