****Offical Texas Baseball Thread****

Ya, we had the #1 class last year. What happened to that class? If Pierce misses post season, he is in trouble. He has grossly underperformed.
In Augie's first 5 seasons at Texas he made it to regionals twice and the CWS once and went 0-2.
I think he turned out to be a pretty decent hire in the long run right?

Well its that time of year again! Texas baseball is back! Texas will start the season in Arlington again in The College Baseball Showdown.

We are a young team this year and not ranked when the polls came out. Going to make for an interesting season, but it's upon us!

DP ain't Augie. However, he went and hired a pitching coach with experience and showed he can make moves if needed.

Steve Rodriguez has a wealth of quality experience, but dang I hated to lose Tulo.

It's been too damn long since Texas won a natty in baseball. Time for these boys to get shit done. Don't care how young they are. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

We don't really have much in terms of pitching except for Gordon who was decent last year. Also lost Melendez who's bat won't be replaced. Might be a rough year.

Hopefully T Witt will be back soon. Think we lost L Harrison for the year due to Tommy John issues/surgery. I’m excited about having Mr Williams as our pitching coach. Hoping for good things in that area.

In the modern day with the transfer portal, there is no excuse for any coach to cry about his/her team being young. It's a problem of their own choosing. Pierce is expected to make the CWS or he has failed.

Oh man, now you’re bringing your negativity over to the baseball team?
I'm just going to throw this out there--

The first college world series was 1947. There have been 75 of them. Texas has gone to 38 of them. That's more than half the time. So..... ya.... Texas is pretty much supposed to go to the CWS or its an off year.

I'm not sure I'd call it a failure if Texas doesn't make Omaha. It is certainly a disappointment. Now, if Texas goes 2-3 years without going, then that is 10000% a failure.

Ready made excuses. See my post above. See Arkansas basketball this year.
I get it. You have to go get the best players each year if they are not already on your team. The problem is you will not recruit well out of high school if the players and high school coaches see you grabbing a bunch of transfers every year for starting roles. Also, the young talent will be good eventually, they just need a year to catch up to college pitching and playing is the only way to do that. So the question is, do you ride with the young ones for a year and then set yourself up really good for the next couple of years or do you bring in transfers that are more ready now but lose some of your good young players? I guess we'll see how it works out.

Bingo. You are dead on with your assessment. I would do what Christ Beard was doing. I would always recruit the best available player while looking for the more mature recruit that understands it will take some time to develop. I would add one caveat. If I can get a freshman stud like Banks, then ya he's on my team and starting while a freshman. Winning comes first. If recruits aren't patient enough to put the team first, then let them lose to my team while they gain experience on another team.

I'll be at the games Saturday and Sunday, will be looking at them closely talent wise. But these 3 games are always tough to gage, cause seen tcu go 0-3 in these games, but still make it to the CWS. Definitely glad baseball season is here!

Won't look anything like that by time conference starts is my bet

Our starter tonight Gordon threw lights out for 5 innings. We get in trouble with our defense at short in the 7th which is uncommon. We end up losing 3-2 to arky. Again hits were not available when we needed them.

I have collected my thoughts after seeing a horrible infield that I have never seen Texas put out on the field. And we have had a stable of shortstop come through Texas and having Daly there now is the worst one we have ever had. Zane should not be our 2nd weekend starter, saw some decent pitching from the pen to hold us close. We lost in walk off fashion in the 9th with the runner scoring from 1st with a hard hit passing our diving 3rd baseman. Pierce having Daly bunting with two outs and the ump calling him out. This is going to be a long season and tcu is 2-0 this weekend beating Vandy and spanking arky in fashion. Conference will run through tcu this year. I hate, hate arky fans. Coach Pierce should be put on the hot seat this will not due when we get to the sec.

So its worse than I thought and our middle infield sucks in one innings in today's game middle infield had 3 errors our short stop had 2. And the flood gates opened up with Vandy putting an 8 spot in the 2nd and Pierce finally decided to send the bullpen to warm up after we were down 8-0. Pierce time is coming short and I hope cdc is noticing.
