Well it appears we got underway today in helmets and t-shirts. First couple of days should simply be used to wake up the football muscles and get them back in the groove.

We shouldn't have too much rust as it's been only 69 days since the boys had the pads on. (Another advantage of playing in abowl game after the new year starts)

It appears the media was allowed to watch three out of four periods and was bounced from the fourth---- which means they did skull/huddle drills and ran actual plays during fourth period.

The media has pretty much covered it.

Thoughts thus far? Btw--- I thought John burt had graduated---

-Burt redshirted last season but is doing track this spring

-Tope Imade at 340 pounds and 15% body fat. Wow! Battle at the guard spots between him, Kerstetter, Angulai, and Braun should be good. Would be nice to actually have battles and depth at OL for a change.

-the Coburn kidney news is scary. Plus for whatever reason Christmas apparently wasn’t there either. All of a sudden super thin at Nose.

-replacing the entire front seven plus both corners and the NB on D. Might be some major growing pains this year. Waiting to see if there is even one elite LB on the team for 2019.

Yes and if you think we are thin at LB, wait till you see what we roll out on the D line this year. We got some serious strides that need to be made on defense.

I was trying to read between the lines to understand the kidney issues with Coburn a bit but I can't make sense of what it might be. Herman didn't seem too concerned and Coburn played last year while having the issues so hopefully nothing too bad.

I think most of our replacements on defense are elite less experienced players replacing guys who were experienced but not elite players. The question is do we see a drop off this year that then gets better over time.

I like the prospects of Green and Cook at CB - may be some growing pains but they are really great players. BJ Foster is working at NB and we know he is a baller. Gary Johnson had speed that's hard to replace but Caleb Johnson (JUCO) can fly as well and DeGabriel Floyd is quick and fast as well. Wheeler was on the field for a ton of snaps but I think we can replace him with a better football player - Ayodele can be that guy. Hard to replace a guy like Omenihu but I think the D-line of Roach, Coburn and Graham will perform just as well if not better than last years group.

Time will tell and I'm more confident about years beyond this one but if we can get a defense that performs like last years and is more consistent than last year, we will have a great season.

I have known friends to have kidney issues because of the excessive amount of protien supplements taken to build muscle. This may be the case.

Reading between the lines, the issues with Coburn are chemically induced kidney issues.

Back in my day, I was taking this stuff called Rip Fuel. Good stuff, I was seeing damn good results, however, it also had some side effects like increased aggression and kidney issues. I went tot he doctor and got some blood work done and he immediately made me get off of them because of the damage they were doing to my kidneys.

I'm sure Coburn will be fine if he gets off the stuff he is currently using and switches to something a little less damaging. There are a few options out there that will get him good results.

One of my friends in the military passed away from Ripped Fuel (2001). Sudden heart attack on a 22yr Male probably 210lbs and single digit body fat. It became such a deal across all branches that they added ephedra related products to the positive urinalysis test.

Colleges can only provide meal replacements. If its a shake it has to come with carbs, fats, protien. Colleges cant provide things like creatine, hmb, BCAA's even though they are all from natural food sources because they don't fall under that meal replacement proportions guidelines.

Also high levels of protein consumption up to 3.2 grams per kg of body mass hasn't been shown to negatively affect the kidneys

In 1994 these white bottles of powder showed up in the weight room. In black stencil on the side was painted "Creatine". Rock and Oscar made all Dline and Oline take it. That's the first time I remember being a test dummy. There were more instances.

Yeah so there was an incident in the 90's where some high school wrestlers died trying to cut weight. They were exercising in a sauna wearing a rubber suit and died of dehydration. They were also taking creatine and tried to blame the dehydration on the creatine. After that the NCAA came in with the whole meal replacement rule. Creatine is safe and doesn't cause dehydration. Even if you are using the early 90's preload cycle of 20g per day. Right now its considered non permissible which means its legal to take but a school can't provide it.

I used to train with Oscar when he had a gym in Burleson,tx. This was after his days at Texas. That guy was golden when it came to weight training and what supplements to take. Still to this day I have yet to meet anybody with as much knowledge as that man. Sure is a small world!

That's a good thought. I still don't understand why a "muscle biopsy". I've treated patients with similar but all that is usually needed is some IV fluids and to stop taking whatever it is.

With the biopsy, it makes me think it could be something autoimmune or rheumatic - which seems odd overall for a teenage male.

Oscar used to walk around the weight room flexing his pecs and saying "I am the most explosive athlete in the world". Dude was part Yeti. Big Icelandic ****er that gave zero sh!ts. At one point I think he was the world record holder in discus.
I know he used to take the 125lb dumbells and incline them like they were paper weights at office Depot.

Why would "natural " matter?

Ripped fuel almost killed me in 98 at ft carson during a pt test. thats some bad shit.

Kind of quiet on the spring practice front.

The team had 3 practices last week (2 in shorts and 1 in pads), they are off for spring break this week. Once they return, things will pick up as they have 11 more practices before the spring game on April 13th.

This is the yearly circus. = few practices followed by a looooooooong spring break followed by a few "let's find out who drank the most over spring break" practices.

Those were always the worst--- we'd be driving back from Destin, Florida or where ever we went on spring break just bemoaning the fact that we partied way too much and how sh!tty the first practice back was going to be. Macko-prick would always make us wake up the Monday after spring break at 5am and come down to the stadium to run a little bit as a sort of "welcome back" ....... Then you'd go have breakfast and puke beforehand and spend the rest of the day dreading practice that afternoon. I don't think I ever made it to class the Monday after spring break.

Anyone have a list of injuries or who will miss the Spring Game? Here is what I can think of. I'm sure I'm missing some. Defense got hit hard.

Brandon Jones (starting S)
Caden Sterns (starting S)
Anthony Cook (probable starting CB)
DeGabriel Floyd (MLB)

Guys that missed a portion of spring practices
BJ Foster (S)
Keondre Colburn (DT)

What number is Coburn--- he still might be part of the walking wounded. I had to start memorizing numbers instead of names. The turnover we have had on defense the last five years has been unreal.

Reports have been that he is full go

not only have reports been that he is a full go.....reports are that he is getting first team reps.....at least some of them....

I believe he is wearing 99 or at least that is what is showing up in his social media

I really hope the defense can be serviceable this year, because I think the offense has the potential to really good.

There was a video of Keontay Ingram making a big play in one of the scrimmages. Showed him maintaining balance and breaking several tackles. I really think that kid is going to be very good as the offensive line continues to improve. Him and Whittington in the backfield could prove to be very dangerous with the ball in their hands. Both of them can definitely catch the ball out of the backfield which will help lessen the loss of Tre Watson.

We are more than adequate on offense. Even though we have a few kids with some nicks and nagging injuries --- we are good.

That D though?
