Jenny Thrasher--- A freshman at West Virginia, wins the 1st gold medal in the Olympics in the sport of........

Wait for it.........

Shooting. A millennial wins an event with a gun. I'm proud, yet has confuse. I thought college kids were against guns. They said she took up shooting 4 years ago after going deer hunting with her grandpa and shooting a dear with her first shot ever.

I think I've got a little tear in my eye right now.....

I "liked" this on behalf of FlourBluffHorn

Opening ceremony was well done. I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved the cauldron and the design behind it. However, I thought Brazil's environmental message was very hypocritical and confusing.

Let that be a message to all our enemies in the world: even our 18 year old women from the Appalachian can shoot better than you!

Columbia is playing Australia in women's rugby. Poor Columbia has zero chance.

Ausies are scoring at will. It's like 943 to 0. I've yet to see Columbia make a single tackle.

Seriously though-- the only shot Columbia has at beating Australia is if "Cocaine manufacturing" became an Olympic sport.

Ya'll should watch this. It's insane.

Simone Biles is simply amazing. I have been watching the gymnastics and the USA ladies are really doing good. The commentators are calling Biles the best of all time.

Better than Nadia komaneechi? (Sp)
They said it more than once, so I imagine they really believe she is. The super attractive Nastia Liukin former USA olympic champ seemed to agree.

Imo, the opening ceremonies and the Parade of Nations at the Olympics are the greatest spectacles in sports. I love watching the African and smaller nations marching into the stadiums wearing their native garb. And those tv people are right for most of those countries marching into the stadium is their highlight they're not going to win any medals. But their flag bearers were beaming with just as much pride as Michael Phelps was carrying our flag. How can you not like it? As for Brazil's show. What red blooded heterosexual male wasn't enticed watching Gisele Bunchen strut across the stage? That alone made it watchable for me. If Gisele Bunchen came up to me and just said hi Id be in a good mood for the rest of my life.

Another former Mountaineer Rifle team member won the Gold in the Men's Air Rifle.

I was watching Russia's Yulia Efimova in the 200 breastroke finals. She got a silver. I only mention her because Lilly King gave her a hard time (rightly so). But, I thought that she handled it well by not battling back and staying quiet about the whole deal. Also, I think she is probably the best looking and most feminine elite swimmer I have ever seen.

I've been watching womens beach volleyball and still haven't noticed a ball or net anywhere.
I'll continue to watch, just in case....

Congrats to Joseph Schooling! First ever Olympic gold medal for Singapore.

For winning the gold medal in Friday night's 100m 100m fly - and beating out his once-idol Michael Phelps in the process - Schooling, who is an athlete at the University of Texas, will receive about $750,000 from the Singapore National Olympic Council's Multi-Million Dollar Award Programme.

The ladies 4x100 was bizarre. Our girls were doing well in the heat when Brazil's 3rd leg girl interfered with her arm/elbow hitting Allyson Felix as she was about to pass the baton to the 3rd leg. The US didn't qualify, because the baton was dropped... Ultimately, the US protested and the girls ran a heat by themselves where they had to beat 42.70 in order to qualify for the finals. They did. Our girl Okinosun anchored the relay.

Our "2nd leg girl" is Allyson Felix btw, one of the best american sprinters of all time. Put some Respek on her name.

I edited my post, brother. Now, it is your turn to edit yours and capitalize Ms Felix's name to show due Respek.

Fair enough. Hopefully she, Okinosun and the rest can bring home a gold tonight!

On a side note: our men's 4x100 got disqualified. However, they still lost to Japan before the disqualification. How does our relay team lose to Japan?

Nice call. (.35)
USA. 41.01
Jamaica Mon 41.36
I round up.

Anyway, Japan beat us because we are no longer the dominant sprint country in the world- that's why. Just understand that the dru....I mean "training methods" we use nowadays isn't as good as it used to be.....
