Portal help????

Looks like Card is going to Purdue. We may be needing a middle LB after Thursday. Ford didn't confirm he'll be back next year at the conference today. Anthony Hill will be a true freshman and is not the answer. He needs a year at the very least. We need to win now. Let's hope we have an experienced gem in the portal that will come during this period or after the spring portal period.

maybe a freshman/sophomore will step up out of nowhere? We got a little older this year so who knows...Ford was a damn good player this year, kind of a Jordan Hicks like. But he's not omg if we lose him we are doomed. Yes it would hurt , no it wouldn't define the season.

I just don't see Ford going pro this year. ILB's have low positional value in today's NFL and he's at best a day 3 pick right now. He could easily come back next season and transform himself into an early day 2 pick. I'm sure there's some NIL deals in line for him so the money shouldn't be an issue.

Well, it isn't for sure that he is leaving. But, I agree, he could improve his draft stock. The question is how much could he improve it and how many dollars would it translate to.

If he comes back and makes the All American team next season then he could easily be a late day 1 or early day 2 pick. It's a pretty substantial difference.

Say he went to the draft this year and was drafted in the 6th round. His contract would be somewhere around 2.7 million over 4 years which would roughly be $675,000/a year. There is little to no guarantees getting picked that late.

If he came back and was an early 2nd round pick next year then he's looking at around 7 million over 4 years. So you're talking about a 4-5 million dollar difference over 4 years.

Just for fun say he comes back and is a 1st team All American and is drafted in the 1st round then he would be looking at 16-18 million over 4 years.

I truly believe if he comes back next season and we see a similar jump like we did from his this year then he's without a doubt at worst a late 2nd round pick.

He went from flashes of potential last year to pretty dang good this year. He will not make that big of a jump again next year. He will improve with being a year older with more experience but it won't be another giant jump.

Well just having another consistent year goes a long way to improving draft stock. That's mainly what i'm talking about. Teams will want to see if you can replicate that success for multiple years.

Jaylen is likely counting on a strong bowl game performance to boost his leverage for NIL opportunities. The draft is just another lever he can pull to boost NIL offers. My guess is that he returns with a few more NIL deals secured.

If Ford was going to enter the draft he wouldn’t be playing in the bowl most likely.

Worthy wants to be the star and he wants to be the number 1 go to all the time. I feel that he will see if the passing game improves and see if he will get the ball majority of the time. USC is calling him because of Caleb Williams and we all saw how that worked out for him having Addison on his team. The PAC12 is there for USC to win as long as they don't face a talented Utah team. Worthy wants to be number 1 but I feel it's gonna be difficult as the running game will be the main focus of the offense.

I don’t give two shits if hollow hands stays or goes. His best attribute last year was drawing double to open up plays for others.

If he wants USC go to ****ing USC. Forcing him the ball to make him “happy” will **** up an offensive vibe. If he’s too stupid to realize that, you’re better off with guys that aren’t as fast but much smarter.

My thoughts exactly. Trying to force him the ball killed many drives this season.

Ford/Whittington entering would be a big reason why we can't ever get over the hump. They're the exact type of player we need to hang on to for another year. Every time we get someone who projects as a late round pick they jump into the draft instead of playing another year. Championships aren't won if we keep losing good players with eligibility left. Someone like Bijan is a different story and understandable but we need to keep these type of guys because that's the backbone of the team.

Lil Jordan Humphrey was another one that comes to mind for me. He didn't even end up getting drafted and now he's just bouncing around from team to team in the NFL. He needed that last year.

Sounds like jaylen blue is gone. Didn't get one carry vs Washington and scrubbed Texas from his socials supposedly. All signs to him leaving. Can't argue with him when Baxter is coming to town.

Weak mindset. If after next year he was buried the. So be it. He didn’t even give himself a chance.
I understand his frustration. I was not impressed with K Robinson in the bowl game. If K Robinson is starting or even in the 2 deep as the featured back, we are in trouble. He didn't go anywhere.

Per Bobby Burton:

  • Texas has eyes on Jalen Catalon and Thomas Harper for a safety portal addition
  • Texas is still looking for 1-2 WRs from the portal. They had initial contact with Singer and Armstrong but they committed before Texas fully engaged. There should be names coming up this week on who Texas will be targeting.
  • No OL/LB takes in the portal
  • Texas will only pursue big name proven edge rushers, otherwise they don’t expect a portal take (imo there aren’t any good edge rushers in the portal so far)
  • Texas could be looking for a veteran RB depth take from the portal (imo this is preparing for if both Keilan and Blue decide to leave)

If we get Catalon our secondary is going to be really good next season with what we have coming back in Watts, Brooks, Barron, Thompson, and Gilbeau.

Rumor is Blue and K. Robinson might jump in the portal. Does anyone have any insight?

Think blue is gone he was unhappy not to get a snap in the bowl game and had a very good productive bowl week practice. Thought he would of seen the field.

They both probably see the writing on the wall. Brooks and Baxter are going to be splitting carries next year. Baxter is good enough to be a day 1 starter from everything I have seen from him.

Catalon visiting this weekend. It will be a plus for our secondary if he commits. The only problem with him is his shoulder injury.
