LJ Johnson is one of the top overall prospects in America in the 2021 class, and he has offers from top programs all over the country. The Rivals100 member has yet to formally trim his list of favorites, but says there are a handful of schools that have caught his attention.
“I’m high on A&M, Georgia, OU, LSU, Stanford and still Texas,” Johnson said. “I’ll trim my list in May.”
A 5-10, 205-pounder out of Cy Fair, Johnson was able to take a couple big unofficial visits earlier this spring before in-person visits were put on hold. That included a stop in Austin in January, and Johnson said he’ll make a return visit to UT at some point.
“I’ll definitely get back to Austin after we’re allowed to again,” Johnson said.
After his January visit to Texas, Johnson mentioned his strong relationship with UT running backs coach Stan Drayton as a reason the Longhorns were being considered. He’s familiar with the success that Drayton has had with backs like Ezekiel Elliott, and Drayton has stressed to Johnson in their talks how Johnson could be successful in the Longhorns’ offense.
“I talk to them weekly, mainly coach Drayton. He tells me he knows exactly how he’ll use me and how I’ll fit into their offense,” Johnson said.
A four-star prospect, Johnson ranks No. 67 on the Rivals100. He currently holds close to 40 scholarship offers, but it does sound like the picture is beginning to come into focus for the standout runner. Fortunately for Texas, it is still one of the schools in the running.
