Recruiting Thread 2018

Our biggest competition for Thompson is UNC. he missed The Opening to go visit UNC for the Duke game

multiple sources!.....oh....you mean who are the commits.....hmmmmm beats hell out of me.

Atanza Vongor - Safety from Dallas commits to TCU. One of the top 3-4 safeties we were after. Still pursuing BJ Foster, who I'm sure is our top target as well as 3-4 other 4 star guys.

3 star athlete (CB/WR/KR) Jaqualyn Crawford lists Texas in his Top 10. No surprise here as Texas was named as his dream school.

Offer out to Gemon Green. A 3 star Texas CB, probably not at the top of our board but would be a good backup plan.

Joshua Moore, IMG 4 star WR (from Yoakum, TX) lists Texas in Top 10. Really cool photo edit. Gotta like the "TEXAS" across his chest. Brother Jordan is a DB committed to TAMU. They are not determined to play together at the next level.

It's so slow around here in the off season I thought I'd tell you guys a story. So yesterday I was at Stiles Switch in Austin and Mark Henry was behind me in line and he was definitely showing around some recruits parents. The recruit wasn't there, so I have no idea who he was actually showing around. But everyone and their dog was coming up to him and taking pictures, etc. Also overheard most of their conversation and it was all about how amazing Herman was and how detail orientated he was.

Next weekend is shaping up to be a big recruiting weekend for Herman and Co. The Lamar Triplets will be in town (Anthony Cook - 5 Star CB, D-shawn Jamison - 4 star DB, and Al'Vonte Woodard - 4 star WR) along with 4 star CB Jalen Green for unofficial visits. They will be joined by Florida 4 star CB Brendan Radley-Hiles. According to 247 rankings these are the top 3 CBs that Texas has offered and Woodard is in the top 5 of WRs offered. Not sure who else may be in town but it's always a good thing to get these guys on campus and a more intimate atmosphere may prove beneficial compared to the Junior Day that was packed with recruits.

Add 5 star safety BJ Foster to the list.

4 Star OG/C recruit, Chasen Hines, from Texas commits to LSU.

Not sure where we are headed with our 2018 offensive linemen class but we have some work to do. Most of our remaining targets are out of Georgia. I'm doubtful we pull one of those guys but maybe they are higher on us than I think.

Why are we not getting any commitments? OU has, LSU has, not us. Are there silent ones? We need some momentum. Guess they are waiting to see product on field.

The inside guys have said there are some silents and to expect some to commit this month. Who knows though?

I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.

Did we offer Justin Rogers today? Qb out of LA. (The one who was rumored to be on his phone a lot during Junior days and that's why Herman didn't offer him.) Teammate of Terrace marshall

Yep, that's what all the reports have said.

Looking at our QB board, it's Casey Thompson and then Justin Rogers. Thompson remains in contact with the staff daily and says things are still heating up in the recruitment.

Add 5 star safety BJ Foster to the list.

Add 2019 IMG RB Noah Cain to the list as well. He is the number 5 player in the class according to 247 (not ranked by other sites yet). He is originally from Texas.

Big time recruiting weekend going on this weekend, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Hoping to see a few big time commits. From a variety of sources I have gathered the below list of visitors. There may be more pop up and I'll update this list, and of course not all may be able to make it.

3 star QB MJ Rivers
2019 QB Roschon Johnson (big time player)

2019 RB Noah Cain (top 5 national player according to 247)

4 star WR Alvonte Woodard
3 star WR Kalen Barnes

3 star OT/TE Reese Moore
3 star OT Victor Curne

4 star DT Keondre Coburn

4 star LB Byron Hobbs
3 star LB Tajh Brown

5 star CB Anthony Cook
4 star CB Jalen Green
4 star CB D'shawn Jamison
4 star CB Brendan Radley-Hiles

5 star S BJ Foster
4 star S Jordan Moore

TJ Pledger, a top RB commits to OU. Texas had offered but not sure ever really got too much interest in return.

If we dont hear something soon saying otherwise, I am gonna believe we have a definite problem. I can see where this guy or that guy want to extend the process, but every damned one of them?......Something is wrong, and the longer this strings out the worse it is going to get. Herman better damned well have a stellar season or we might not sign anyone that anyone else wants.

Realistically speaking, If we don't have a good season, why would anyone expect to sign someone that is in high demand?

Because the University is paying someone millions and that someone is supposed to be good at his job?

No one doubts how good Nick Saban is at his job and he earns his high salary. But if Alabama goes 6-7, 5-7 and 5-7 in the next three seasons, his recruiting success shouldn't change?

No that's why you expect to win games. What does that have to do with a recruit signing here when we are losing unless some of that coaches salary is going to a recruiting slush fund.

The money is relevant only in the sense that he is paid as if he is among the best coaches in American. As one of the best coaches in America he should be able to recruit top rated players to the University. Obviously, it's too soon to tell what kind of recruiter Coach Herman will turn out to be. But the lack of early success is mildly disappointing. Hey, it could get better. But for now, I don't take any comfort in the notion it's due to the previous staff's won/loss record. I expect a great coach to overcome that obstacle. Overcoming obstacles is what it's all about.

It isnt that Herman is not turning out to be a good recruiter......my complaint to this point is there is no real evidence that Herman is recruiting at all.....almost April and we have one guy on board? This is rediculous.

Not recruiting? I guess all of those guys showed up this weekend for the hell of it.

yeah....my point exactly. They show up....get the swag bags...and go away. When is someone, anyone going to commit?

It'll come. We are going after some big time targets who are expectedly evaluating their options. We aren't seeing many guys we are going after commit elsewhere, it's not as if we are losing battles.

Unfortunately Texas isn't the sure thing it used to be. Some winning will cure that.

Herman is not Mack Brown.....he's not gonna have his recruiting class 3 quarters full by the spring game.....just not gonna happen. If I'm a recruit I'm looking at how the team looks during the season....if it looks like it's headed in the right direction (8 wins or so) then recruiting momentum will pick up.
