SHAKA IS GONE

KD, Aldridge and Ford have their full support of Ivey
I think Royal could do a nice job here, and I respect KD, Aldrage and TJ but I hope this isn’t carrying much weight with the decision makers. They are going to bat for a fellow alum, teammate, respected player which I can respect that doesn’t make him the best guy.

Well Mussleman, Altman, Beard, are all out of the tournament and Ivey could come any time. So this thing should pick up steam this week I’d imagine.

This bothers me. I like Royal. He's a good dude. Don't think he's ready for THIS head job yet. I'd like to be wrong, of course-- but I don't think I am. And here's the problem-- KD, Aldridge and TJ have platforms- especially KD.

If Royal doesn't get the job now, all KD has to do is even question if it was about race just one time-- just once---- and his 19 million twitter followers jump all over us like white on rice.

I think that’s a concern. Anytime you have an alum up for the job that former players with clout are advocating for it puts the school in a tough spot. There are a couple ways out of it if you are CDC.
1. You hire someone whose qualifications are above questioning. A beard, Altman, Mussleman etc. Thars what CDC did with softball. There was growing support to give Cat the job. CDC went out and got arguably the best coach in America and people went “oh ok cool”

2. You hire a guy like Beline, or Pitno and you tell Ivey come here be there chief assistant and in 3 years the job is yours.

just hire the right guy. if it makes kd mad, so be it. charles barkley ripped auburn for picking chizik over turner gill. after chizik won the natty and gill flamed out at his next stop, he apologized

And KD has a reputation as a bit of a whiner so he will provably complain no matter what. Given how KU faired after Gill maybe everyone owes Gill an apology lol

Who is the “right guy” in your opinion? Not asking who you think we’ll end up with but who is the right guy depending on how you define “right guy”.

Fwiw Royal Ivey basicly has the same resume juwaun Howard had before taking over Michigan, and they are playing for the final 4 in his 2nd year. It can work with the right staff.

Actually Michigan just lost to the hottest team in the tourney UCLA to make it to the Final 4.

Yeah UCLA is playing really well right now. Props to Mick Croin always been a fan of his and he’s got arguably the toughest job in the country. That was a great game.

I have to think Beard is taking Texas seriously. I’d he wasn’t there is no way tech or beard would be letting it just hang out there this long. With that said CDC needs to give him a drop dead date. Don’t wanna keep doing the dance with him only to have him stiff you

Gill ran that into the ground. somebody said when he left there were 6 guys on the roster with bench presses over 300. beaty had that going in the right direction; he's the one that had to really deal with that. didn't watch them enough to know if he was good on the x/o side.

anyway, as for us, who's right? i'm sure there are several that would do well here. wright and few are the best today but neother are leaving-- they're kings where they are. beard would be good. altman would be my personal choice. oats and musselman were 2 of the reasons i wanted us to move on shaka 2 years ago (the others were hoiberg and buzz). i like underwood. anthony grant is good. pitino is the best college coach of all time-- depends on whether you're willing to deal with the media backlash. you can always call stevens and donovan to see if they're really all in on the nba, but most guys that go there enjoy that they don't have to recruit and can just coach. there are lots of choices. and i think i've stated before cdc has made 4 hires (that i know of) and all have been really good. i trust him, and i trust his process until he makes me not. so it may be somebody out of left field, but i'll give whoever it is a shot.

I follow the Pac 12 closely and Altman has done a really good job. I never hear about any riff raff at Oregon.

Question: if we were all in with Meyer (with all of his baggage and media scrutiny) why aren't we all in for Pitino who brings a similar background?

I'm not advocating for Pitino, I just find it interesting that I don't hear a loud swell of support for him.

We may of just gained some competition for Beard... Roy Williams has announced his retirement at UNC

The truth is other than a couple years under Mangino KU football has been a dumpster fire for most of its existence. Putting it on one guy is ignoring decades of futility

It would have been great. The stars were closely aligned, but not enough.

pitino is the best college coach of all time
John Wooden is the GOAT in my book. I never watched his teams because I was too young, but I know his records and I have read his books.

John wooden was great he is The Godfather of basketball coaches but to be honest the game wooden coached, and the game even 40 years ago don’t even come from the same planet. Wooden would never dominate toddys game like he did in his day. He’d still be great but it was just a different time

Today Beard buyout drops to 4 million
Yeah to be honest I’d like to have beard and I don’t blame Texas for making a run but if he decides to stay at Tech, or go to UNC I won’t be disappointed. Other good coaches out there

I don't disagree, but there is another factor that would limit his effectiveness today.

The stories about his "bag men" and the amount of money paid to his recruits are interesting. I am not sure he would be able to do that today given the scrutiny coaches face now.

Okay, let me get this straight:
Texas HC is open and the worst kept secret of Beard being at the top of the shortlist
blow u: any news
UNC: who the heck is on their short list?

Bama, Arkisaw and Tech (and maybe even the Celtics) are about to have to dig deep into their pockets

We definitely dug deep in our pockets today

I wonder if you all will alter your perception of reality after Beard turns you down to stay in Lubbock. That will mean you went after both Texas Tech's baseball and basketball coaches in the last 5 years, and both told you to pound sand. The Texas basketball job is not a great job. The last couple of years when Tech played UT in Austin, there were almost as many Tech fans as UT fans. I don't think Texas fans really care much about basketball, they just think they are entitled to be good at it since you are Texas. I truly wonder if you will alter your perception after this. Obviously, football is a different story.

Oh you thought we would forget about you huh? What do you have to say now with our "perception" after Beard is OUR new head coach? You going to throw tortillas at us now?

I could not disagree more. He is one of those coaches that would be the best of any era. He taught fundamentals like no one before or since. He would spend the entire first day of practice showing the players how to put on their socks! All the best of the best HS players would line up to play for him to ensure their ticket to the NBA.

Now how he would have handled the one and done situation is anyones guess....

He was a great coach but it is a different world in most respects. He would still be a good coach today but he wouldn’t be the same.
