Texas Recruiting

Supposedly there’s a recruit on campus now that has committed, but doesn’t want it announced until he notifies the other schools that were recruiting him. My guess is Johntay Cook?

EDIT: Nvmd it’s not Cook. He just narrowed his list down to Texas, Oregon, and Michigan. So eliminated aggy. Smart man.

here’s hoping the silent commit is Connor Stroh. That would be sweet.

I think he'll stick around at least for his first year to learn under Sark. After this next season, I would expect both he and Card will transfer. Arch will come in and sit a year behind Ewers then take the reins the following season when Ewers declares for the NFL draft. Malik will have all four years of eligibility and a year of tutelage under Sark. He'll be ready to step right into a top program and take over as the starting QB.

Card will graduate after this season and will have two years of eligibility. He'll land somewhere with an opportunity to showcase his skills and perhaps earn a shot in the NFL.
Not out of the possibility that Murphy or Card shines and starts and stays. Ala Applewhite.

I am amazed that everyone assumes we will have no injuries at QB for the next 5 years.I certainly dont want to wish ill on anyone, but the laws of average indicate that someone will miss playing time and someone else will have to step up. Methinks that Card and malik will have opportunities at some point down the road.

What I like about where we are is that we now seem to have talent to fall back on.

If Ewers goes down I would have to think Malik would be the guy. That guy has some talent and is big as hell throws the ball well. Heck it may be a battle this year between Malik and Ewers, if Malik is more mobile than Ewers. But you got to like Ewers hairdo, kind of Boz Lite look.

You’re sleeping on Card’s ability. Malik needs a year to work on his mechanics and get up to the game speed of division 1 ball. Those camps you are speaking of seeing him at were all throwing against air with no pass rush. Anybody can look good doing that.

Exactly. Never understood why Simms got all the hate for one bad game. Meanwhile, Applewhite engineers our most embarrassing losses to OU ever, but that’s conveniently forgotten about. Mind boggling.
I think some people were emotionally attached to Applewhite and upset when Simms came in and took his job. I do think if Applewhite had played that whole CCG against Colorado we probably win that game.

Agree, but I also think if Simms starts that game 10 more times, we blow them out every time. He just had a bad game.

Also, sure we go to the NCG if Applewhite starts, where we get flat out embarrassed, because Applewhite was ineffective against better defenses.

Also can’t believe Simms gets no credit for absolutely owning aggy, something any other Texas QB would receive legendary status for.

Probably has a lot to do with going 0-3 against OU. People remember those games also more than they remember most other games.

29-6 as a starter is damn good though.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Simms only started once against OU. The 14-3 loss in ‘02. The previous two blowouts were engineered by Mr Applewhite. If my memory is right, anyway.

It was 3 starts. They beat us by double digits each time.

Ok that’s false, but I was partially wrong too. Simms started ‘01 and ‘02. But neither was a blowout. In 2000, Simms didn’t play until the 3rd quarter, after Applewhite getting benched because the score was already 49-7. So Simms was 0-2 as starter, but at least didn’t get embarrassed.

I’m hearing Goosby just now decommitted from TCU. Looks like he’s next.

interesting note, also heard an unnamed national top 50 prospect, that I guess Texas wasn’t thought to be in the running for, sent Sark a picture with him in a cowboy hat today.

We gettin’ EEERRBODY!

Metcalf....I generally agree with you ad think you have mor footbll smarts than most on here......but I disagree on Applewhite. I think if he stayed healthy he gave us a better chance to win the tough ones than Simms...

We need to get Kyle Flood on some of these defensive recruits. Dude has just been making it happen for 2 cycles now.

4 OL in a day.

Our resident, ‘but the OL’ guy isn’t going to know what to post about.

Cris Simms was emotionally fragile. Granted he had a lousy oc (Greg Davis remember him?) who did nothing to elevate his game. It was no secret that Mack promised Papa Phil he'd play as a freshman. He became the permanent starter halfway his sophomore season. The w/l record is misleading. Against the best teams we played Cris didn't get it done when it mattered most and that's putting it nicely.

Holiday Bowl 2000. The score was 35/28 Simms was not accurate with his throws but to be honest The receivers contributed to that 4 dropped passes in the end zone BJ Johnson dropped 3 of them. But the following year we were back in the HB this time against WA. With the exact same scenario Major Applewhite showed clearly that he, not Simms, was the leader. We came from behind 3x and this time late in the game BJ didn't drop the ball. It set up the winning td a couple of years later.

We've already talked about the CO game and the 2 OK games he started. But the Holiday bowls proved to me he didn't have what it takes to be an elite qb. People talk about that CO game. But if Major had started that OR game we would have won that game. On that team Major, not Cris was the leader.

I was always amazed watching Applewhite throw a long pass. It was so slow I thought it would fall from the sky, but it seemed to just keep going. Simms did throw a nice looking pass....

Not that I don't enjoy the Applewhite/simms debate, but can we keep thread to recruiting?

IT saying Texas is on commitment watch for "at least two" players at the moment.
Should go down today.

So I took at look at this on3 website to see what it’s all about. If you go to the Player Ranking page you’ll beside each player listed that they’ll have that player’s “NIL value” listed as a monetary figure. Chucklz. I figured this is where this crap would lead, it’s just like the draft where the No. 2 player wants money close to what the No. 1 player got. It’s pay to play LOL

garrett gilbert thought he was walking into an offense that he was used to. when it came time for him to play, they had gone to an offense he wasn't accustomed to, and that the team wasn't personelled for. he took the heat because of the position, but he did well when he went to smu and actually played in a system more to his skillset.

Do you think dudes weren’t getting money before? You just feel better not knowing about it? Like some of you keep beating this horse like it wasn’t happening for the last 75 years
