Texas Recruiting

Well he’s a highly touted 5* QB. A lot of 5*’s these days are starting as true freshmen: Trevor Lawrence, Jalen Hurts, Bo Nix, Lamar Jackson.
He probably could and would play as well as the older guys. The problem is if you start the younger guy the older ones will transfer and your left with only one QB. That's why coaches wait until the last minute to name a starter.

7 wins and we have major problems
8 wins, hohum and you better not look bad in any of those
9 wins and I think we lock in the nice recruiting class that have committed and look forward to 2023

Average OL play we win 8 games
That plus average QB pressure we win 9.

Above average in those two areas we win the conference

Knowing that, I say 9-4 one way or the other.

I'm with you on the QB situation. King is a guy I think has a ceiling of 10 wins. I just don't know enough about him and there are things about him that scare me. Johnson seems like a game manager and a smart kid that could do pretty good running the offense, but again 10 wins would be the ceiling. Weigman is my favorite of the 3 and the one I could see competing for the SEC, but he probably won't be ready, so I'm with you there on QB and that is the wildcard.

I LOVE Achane and if given the ball enough that dude can get out and go, but will we give him the ball enough??- If he can get his touches then I like our chances.

Defensively we should have a lot of talent and I like a few of our freshmen to get lots of time. I think Walter Nolan will be special along with Shemar Turner, but again...freshmen.

Realistically I expect to lose at Alabama and then trip up a game on the road that we shouldn't to someone like Miss St or at home to Ole Miss. Those damn Miss schools we can't seem to beat for whatever reason. Arky is another one that is a toss up to me. SO, I'll go 10-2 or 9-3 and I honestly would hope Weigman would get the keys and lets let him learn now.

How about your REALISTIC goals for Texas??
a&m's schedule is alittle tougher than the past years w Prairie View and such. But, 2 wins against lowly Appalachian State and UMass will pad the W column. SHSU probably will be a win, but could be close or interesting.

Looks like Hale and Muhammed are going to be Horns. I would have liked to have had Malik, but him committing before the pool party is pretty telling. 2 good gets if it shakes out that way.

What do you think is going on with aggie recruiting? Jimbo keeps striking out on everyone. He has zero recruiting momentum right now. Pretty crazy considering he just signed the number 1 class of all time.

I don’t think recruits like the perception that they went to a place just for the money. Even if they did they don’t want it to be framed that way and right now that’s the perception of A&M

Dry ass brisket, empty promises, forced to play in freezing cold and shitty LA traffic. I’d be pissed too if I were him.
I wonder how USC fan feels about their 2023 class so far? Lincoln was going to go buck wild with NIL in recruiting? Seems to me his best recruits are the ones he took with him to USC as OU commits. Even at that he appears to be be lacking on the recruiting trail

They only have 11 commits. Their average composite score is 92.07 per 247Sports. That's good enough for 4th overall. Think the lack of overall commitments is really bringing their ranking down but their quality of commits so far is pretty good.

I bet there's some guys waiting to see how their season unfolds.

Well, I think there are lots of things that COULD be going on. I think last year that was a really close knit Houston group to start a base much like a lot of the action has come from Dallas this year. A&M has never done GREAT overall in Dallas. Texas always has. Next year is another loaded Houston class, and several great players could be leaning A&M's way next year.

The Arch committment got things kicked off. I'm not sure Arch is a perfect score quarterback but perception is everythingl and good want to play with good. NIL is something that everyone else is really taking advantage of maybe not as much as last year.

I do think A&M will still finish with a very good class. Jimbo has always been a very good closer but it has to start happening pretty quick. I think there are some pretty good pieces that could start to fall and we will see what happens when the season starts and kids get on campus. I have no doubt kids that are currently committed to Texas will visit A&M in the fall....and vise versa so how Texas handles Alabama early and how their season goes will be a big deal. If A&M puts something together like a 10 win season(8-4 until they prove otherwise...I know) then recruiting can pick up steam.

I am not in the rooms when these conversations are going on, BUT I can imagine college coaches across the country ganging up on A&M for sure right now and sayingthings like...
They are going to be getting investigated
Where do you fit in on the depth chart?
Texas is joining the SEC...momentum build and part of something new.

I do have a family connection to Anthony Hill and know there are some things being said about A&M which he says he laughs off, but these kids are 17 and 18 years old, so there is that.

In the end I think A&M ends up with a top 10 class IF things that I think are going to happen actually happen.

Congrats on the great class you are building. Here is to some kick ass games in the future.

This is mean reversion. The 2022 class was so good that the 2023 class doesn't want to sit behind those guys. This is typical for a team that hasn't won anything.

Yeah well like I said, he had quite a while to recruit the highest rated members of his class while at OU, on OU’s dime and offer them NIL deals as soon as he got to USC. I’m not too impressed with what he’s done other than that and he’s having Oline and Dline recruiting problems. It’s going to be awfully interesting to see how the final tallies turn out.

Texas gets negative recruited more than anyone every year, it's fun to have a target on your back isn't it.

I think it's a combination of depth chart concerns and other teams opening the pocket books more this year.

USC and UCLA are going to be on an island in that conference. I don't think that recruiting will be as great as many think it will be for them. Look at the other teams in the B10. Their recruiting on average isn't good.

In the meantime Oregon will probably be a thorn in the side in the Pac12. Pretty impressive how well Ohio St. recruits

He’s pretty fast
Sark loves speed at the WR position. Ewers is going to have all kinds of weapons come next season. He played varsity as a freshman. They said it was the first freshman to play varsity football at Longview High in over 15 years. He also averaged over 22 yards a catch his junior year. If you watch most of his highlights they are under thrown balls where he makes contested catches. Should be fun to see him with a QB that can actually throw the ball.

Any Chance of getting TJ Shanahan of Austin Westlake. Seems Aggies are a heavy favorite.

Communication is starting to open up again and re-engaging. Looking at a possible end of July. From Hornsports though, he is a guard and we need tackles.

Correct, we have enough guards. Tackles are premium like edges and corners.

I was just taking a look at the recruiting rankings and noticed that A&M isn't even in the top 60 for 2023. How odd is that? You pull the greatest recruiting class of all time last year and this year you'll be lucky to break the top 25.

Yes, something smells here. Time to look under the rug.

I'm sensing some major butthurt after the Texas to SEC deal. Somebody went passive-aggressive in a bit of a tantrum.
