Texas Recruiting

Picked a QB recruit for the 2024 class today. Trey Owens our of Cy Fair HS down by Houston. He's a 3 star right now but it sounds like he has a big arm and tons of upside.
Good pick up. It’s going to be hard to get a high star talent on the heels of Manning.

It would be nice to have a guy come in a redshirt for a year and then sit behind Arch for a year or 2 and be ready to play as say a redshirt sophomore after Arch leaves. I like the idea of playing QBs who have been on campus multiple years. We saw last year how playing young QBs is a roller coaster ride. Not every guy is Colt McCoy or VY and good enough to come in a lead a team to a 10+ win season.

VY was not ready as a freshman. What are you talking about?

He wasn’t ready as a true freshman but as a redshirt freshman he was ready to play. He went through some growing pains but we still went 10-3 that year. We were number 6 in total offense that year as well. What else more do you want from a young QB? He ran for 998 yards and 11 tds that season.

Vince actually put up better passing numbers his freshman year compared to his sophomore year. At least his passer rating number and QBR numbers.

Hey....VY was VY and a special player for sure....but as I said....he wasnt ready either his first year . And that is what Ewers just finished was his first year.
Agree to disagree on that one then.

And with that logic then no young QB is ever ready to play. But the fact of the matter is when you have a talented QB you have to let him loose at some point. It wouldn’t matter if you waited until his junior year to play him. There’s always going to be growing pains. And on top of that this team was never going anywhere with Chance Mock.

Sounds like there's talk that AD Mitchell from Georgia is entering the transfer portal and Texas is a likely landing spot. This would be huge for our WR room. He was hurt for most of last season but came back in the national championship game and had a TD reception. If Neyor makes a full recovery then our WR room is going to be off the charts if we add Mitchell as well.

On paper yes but I'm concerned that something is wrong between Ewers and the receivers.

I'm not blaming Ewers but I'm wondering about Brennan Marion relations with all the qb's and receivers.

Of course I don't have any concrete about this but it deserves consideration.

Our qb's and receivers have to be in sync with a good coach.

He was a freshman, you have to give him the benefit of doubt. If he comes out next year and stinks it up we have 2 extremely talented QBs waiting right behind him in Malik Murphy and Arch Manning. Between all 3 of those guys I have faith one is going to be a really good QB.

I like what they are doing. Go out and bring in talent and let the guys compete and the best players are going to play.

I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt. Something is going on behind closed doors that we don't know about and I'm wondering about Marion. That's my real point.

The problem is that Ewers is a freshman and Worthy is a sophomore. Also, these guys think that they are NFL ready and that their coaches and teammates are holding them back from stardom. Mainly worthy.

Did anyone else miss that Texas offered Tommy Brockermeyer for a second time? Or Does Adam Gorney just think it sounds good?

"Brockermeyer played in only a couple games for the Crimson Tide and is now part of a handful of offensive linemen who have hit the portal in Tuscaloosa. TCU landed the five-star offensive tackle as he’s now said ‘no’ to Texas, his father’s alma mater, twice during the recruiting process"

Ya I don't buy that. From everything I heard Texas wasn't interested.

Was Tommy going to replace Banks? No. Was Tommy going to replace Christian Jones? No. He was told to get in line and he decided to go to TCU. There's some bad blood here. He didn't get what he wanted. Plus, it's debatable that the author of that article even knew what he was talking about. Plenty of those writers have grudges and make stuff up.

Edit: The depth chart at Texas is stacked compared to TCU. We don't need daddy trying to force Tommy over a guy who wanted to be here.

I imagine it went something like this..

Tommy: Hey Sark I'm leaving Bama and thinking about coming back to Texas, you got a spot for me and how much NIL will I make?

Sark: Sure, come on we can always use depth on our second string. You can get whatever NIL opportunities the rest of our players get but I can't promise anything more.

Tommy: Oh...ok. So I won't get special treatment? I used to be a 5 star by the way.

Sark: No

Tommy: Ok, I'll let you know.

Reporter: Tommy Brockemeyer turned Texas down again.
