The Strong Era is all but over...

Yes, we've apparently gotten a 3 year secured deal at around 900k per and he gets to bring his oline buddy with him for 600k. But please don't hold me to that. This is second hand Chow Chow and I've been drinking a tad.
Any idea what he was making? I guess that is the position Texas is in at this point but damn these coaching salaries are getting out of hand. I realize these coaches make some schools a lot of money but no college coach is worth 5-6 mil/year including Stoops. Meanwhile teachers for the most part scrape by.

You talking about bringing in some straight up thugs? You bet. Gotta have some thug gin' to be successful no doubt.
Could be, but rather players who came from bad surroundings and with guidance used this as a stepping stone to a better life. Make the program so good that thugs will come and buy into a better way.

Eh I don't really have a problem with the coaches salaries. Most of the money comes from billionaire alumni. Who am I to tell them they can't spend their money that way?

Where I have a problem is everyone is making millions of dollars but kids get suspended over $100 bucks for signing autographs or even a $10 pizza.

It appears my guy was correct-ish. 900k for sterlin and 550k for his wingman. Sterlin was pulling down a cool 150k from Tulsa so that's a 500% pay raise...................... mama mia!! Datsa spicy meataballa!

Unfortunately its now an arms race and much more than the HC salary. Look at Bama's infrastructure, the number is huge as is Nike/Oregon, well over $100mm and growing as they approve more bond financing....never should have put the medical school where they did as the cranes should be for building better football/athletic facilities.

I think that, if the season goes at all decently, that there's a strong possibility he gets his 4th year, but I'm sure that if the season goes like this year's that won't likely be the case. Honestly, I think the biggest thing (like I've mentioned elsewhere) will be whether or not fans are still interested and there are butts in the seats after the first long road stretch.

With one really tough game (Notre Dame) and one that has to be a gimme (UTEP) at home to start the season, and then 4 weeks without a home game (at Berkeley, bye week, at Stillwater, and in the Cotton Bowl), I can't help but think that the same fan base that freaked out when more than a day went by between an OC interview and any news on the hire won't be patient enough to wait for the second half of the season if the first half looks bad. Granted, given who we play, 2 or 3 wins might be a realistically good outcome, but if the team has a couple of clunkers in the losses that won't be good either.

Give me and improved offense, 3 (or 4!) wins in the first 5, and I'd imagine the rest will take care of itself for him to have his 4th year. Go 1-4 or a really messy 2-3...? And Perrin/Fenves might have to change their tune...

im sure they told him that. I'm also fairly sure they didn't put it in writing so... His contract is guaranteed right? So he has 2.7 million either way. He will be fine

I don't expect Charlie to be here in 2017. We'll see, but I would bet against.

I
I hope Strong turns things around, but I'm not very confident that is going to happen.
if y'all can get settled on a qb or get a good juco then that can go a long way in having success. If OU had Knight as starting qb this year we would have gone 8-4 at very best.

With No. 2 in the books and actually having some ties to Gilbert, this is a complete lack of support from above...This is back room Donor/BOR folks attempting to get their way. He has no support.

Fire him already, he deserves better than this!
My first response! No sir.....you know not what you speak of. Reserve your judgement until after next year. Yes MB won a NC but he left the cupboard bare and much of what was there not worthy of wearing the uni. MB laid down after Colt got hurt in Bama GM. He ripped the University off for 4 years. Direct your venom toward him.

This guy from Vandergrift high seems like one to go after, not a bad way to fill the position until someone younger is developed.

High enough for the trolls not to reach.

Any truth to Sumlin activity looking at other jobs?
Who would want him? He is the Chief Hood Rat in charge of the faggie program. JF got him a huge raise, stadium redo, swagcopter etc. now, his true coaching skills (or lack of) showing through. He has recruited a bunch of selfish "me players". As talented as they may be you cannot win with that type of player. You gotta luv it!!!!

I think you misunderstood TexExSpur. He was saying that if power players were going to sabotage Strong and withhold the resources necessary for success, they should just show some balls and fire him now rather than drag out the inevitable. He wasn't attacking Strong.

I've been saying for months now that they needed to just go ahead and fire him because even if everything went right next year you are looking at 6-7 wins and they fire him anyway.

Imo Herman is waiting for the job. There may be another guy or two seeing the writing on the wall and waiting.
ALL of you naysayers will eat your words next year. When CS turns MB's mess around, I know all of you will surrender your right to be a Longhorn and become faggie fans. You already sound like em. You ALL are an embarrassment to my University. Feel free to leave now.

He's going to Oregon or Bama. Says he wants to play for the NC. Thing is, programs set up to play for a title run generally have some options at QB. I guess he's pretty confident in his abilities.

Need to recruit the "selfish me first thugs." The armed forces gets guys like that and often turns them into fine soldiers. Create the right environment and develop them accordingly where there is upside.

You misinterpret the reasoning behind that post.

Lighten up Francis the recruiting may have been weak in a few areas, mainly qb, but hardly bare. I challenge you to go look at the recruits MB pulled in the last couple of years and look at the who also offered those same players. I think player development played as big a role as anything imo. Also Texspur made his comments when the situation was still fluid.

Mack didn't recruit a good QB since Colt. He got some highly regarded guys but none were great. The death nail to the Mack Brown era was him trying to be like Saban and develop a power running game. We didn't have the personale for it and ended up with an offense with no identity. If Mack would have stuck with the offense run by Greg Davis instead of trying to be like Saban he might have had a better ending to his career here.

The only thing that should be like Saban/Alabama is spending money for the best always state of the art facilities,.best coordinators and assistants to attract the most future NFL material knowing the environment will iron out the tough edges. De'shaun Robinson from Ft. Worth first committed to MB and then visited Tuscaloosa where he saw himself being groomed for the NFL. He called it right as he likely will be a national champion drafted in the 1st round. UT is in a arms race but only spending $27mm annually Alabama is over $41mm and just a state University from a small population state but tapping into FL hard. Tap all the best talent in this large region, the results will be there but gotta spend big money first. Look at Nike/Oregon, and Bama, there is the spending model, Yes players get dress clothes for travel and why not a barber shop!

You talk about SPENDING constantly. Spending money doesn't necessarily mean you will have the best. Alabama recruits NATIONALLY. The way you say it is if we spend 42 mil a year we have the National Title locked up. No. It does not work that way. yes you have to spend but not just for the sake of spending.

No, you have to spend for the sake of building infrastructure which is not done overnight. Some things can be done quickly with a splash and others take years and leaving no stone unturned. But you can't get by just saying we are the flagship university of the state in the coolest town offering a great education as the best recruits don't care. Show them you have built the team and facilities with all the perks where they see themselves being groomed for the NFL and they will come. Hell Oregon/Nike does it as they get kids from all over, in where ever no less but you go there and see huge commitment. Having Charlie say "we can get by" is no way to win this game. It's unfortunate that is what it has become but that is the way it is. And the argument that only a small percentage ever make the NFL is a cop out as ultimately you only want the ones who do.

And with conference realignment and the new selection committee, this game have become even harder to rise to the top. Look USC is also a mess as they too can't get it right. So create a masterplan that will take years, and have the HC be the CEO, not the AD and regents, and then build it. Right now it seems like everything is being done in desperation with no plan in sight. And this just did not start in the last 3 years but these problems started years ago and are now on the surface. I think Charlie is a good ciach, not sure if he is a CEO material as his hands are tied. When Saban, Meyer talk to the the AD, the AD likely says, "yes and let me help you."
