So I linked to the Alabama Rivals page and the headline reads “Inside look at Nick Saban’s Night of Incompetence”. Good grief, incompetence? What a fool. No wonder Saban had an interest in leaving in 2012.

Alabama fans are truly the worst fans in American sports. Forget about tOSU fans Alabama fans are on a whole nother level. There was the fan who was agitated over crepe paper on the statue of Bear Bryant at a Bama/Auburn game. To make matters worse Auburn won the game. So this dude goes to the Auburn campus and poisons a spirit tree that's a big part of their fb tradition. He killed that tree over one game. Then there was the woman who was drunk and did a dive into a crowd of OK fans at the SB a few years ago. And still another fan who shot a friend because they weren't upset enough after a loss to Auburn. That more than anything else is why I can't stand the Alabama crimson tide

I wouldn't label Alabama fans the worst. Maybe they could be called the most unrealistic, but not the worst. The worst fans in college sports are Ohio State fans, and its not even close. The worst fans in all of sports are Philadelphia fans. They wrote the book on being shi**y fans.

You know what is even worse than Ohio State fans is having a bunch of in laws from Columbus that think the Buckeyes are gonna undefeated every year. I really enjoyed rubbing it in when we beat them at the Horseshoe at night and the Fiesta Bowl victory.

Totally agree on the Philly fans. Simply terrible people.

The problem about Alabama is they truly have nothing else. NOTHING. Every car has a school affiliation sticker, usually Bama or Auburn, with a UAB and Troy here and there. (actual alumni and students probably). You can buy your Bama/Auburn gear at Publix but not vegetables.

It's a sad miserable place. But they DO have Bama Football. Well....they did.

After the title game I half jokingly made the comment on another thread that there were a lot of wives in Alabama that were going to take a beating that night. Actually, I knew it was true. Those people are so over the top with that football team that a game like that probably caused much more drinking than normal and more than a few women got hit by a drunk husband or boyfriend.

Sad commentary on a group of fans.

oldschool, ags like to refer to Texas fans as "t-shirt fans" if they cheer for UT, but did not attend, which I see nothing wrong with someone being a fan of a school/team, but did not attend. Out of curiosity, do you guys also call fans of Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, etc "t-shirt fans", if they cheer for one of those schools and did not attend, or is that reserved for only Texas fans?

The t-shirt fan is not the sole property of the University of Texas. It's worse in other places for sure. Probably 7/8 of the state of Alabama if I were a betting man. If you have a Troy or UAB ticker on your car it's probably not because you are fan of their teams. Do you think the people from Bama and GA who call Finebaum actually attended ANY college?

It's not a knock on those who did not attend a school they follow. Not by any means. But if I were to get into a fistfight after "discussing" college athletics, I would say the odds were very slim that it would be with an alumni. In my personal experience. My Horn grad friends are solid as they come.

Ags were proudly touting seeing housekeepers, yards guys, crossing guards, etc. suddenly wearing Ag gear during JFF’s time. They are perfectly fine with maroon T-shirt fans.

Tshirt fans don't typically follow perennial losers. But we'll take em... :D

You still didn't really answer my question, lol.

From what I understand, Ohio State and Michigan have huge tshirt fan contingents. So the answer is yes...they are all called that. It's not a Texas U thing exclusively.

You're still not understanding my question, or you're not wanting to answer it. Do a&m fans call other fans in the $EC t-shirt fans that did not attend a given school and cheer for them? Do they openly say that to them on message boards or face to face?

I guess you would have to know someone personally to determine whether they were a "tshirt" fan or not. So no. But I don't go to any other boards besides this one and Texags. So I am usually corresponding with Texans.

The only people I refer to as tshirt fans I know personally. I wouldn't call anyone on here by that moniker because I have zero clues if they attended or not. So to extend that to other schools it's the same thing. I work with folks who went to all sorts of schools, but their affiliations usually stem from their education. My "tshirt longhorns" are mostly family members. And annoy the ever loving **** out of me. :)

Imo, the school that leads the nation in t shirt fans it's Notre Dame. And if they return to the elite status watch out they'll come crawling out of the woodwork.

Dyk that the education system in Alabama is so bad that the majority of the students are from out of state. There are not enough students in Alabama good enough to get into their flagship school. And I've read that the students that actually attend Bama try to distance themselves from the nutjobs. But it wouldn't surprise me if some of those students were as bad as the others.

May be something to that. Here's some anecdotal support. My boy had plenty of academic offers to attend Alabama. He never even considered it. His best friend from high school who was also a National Merit Scholar finalist like my boy, decided to take the "Bama scholarship thinking pre-med. He lasted one semester. The whole time he was texting my son at Georgia Tech what a mistake and how much he hated 'Bama. One of the things he hated most was his roommate, who was a local. Come this Christmas break, he loaded up his car and drove back home. He's enrolled at Nevada now.

What were his main complaints?

@clob94, his biggest complaints were his roommate, and the weather. Weird, because this kid is originally from the South, he grew up in Florida but spent the last several years in Nevada. He hates humidity now and my boy and I were both floored when he accepted the free ride to "Bama because he complained so much about the climate of the South. Couple that with his dislike for his roommate and that was the bulk of the problem. Roommate was loud, one of those local yokels who had an opinion about everything and didn't mind letting you know it. The poor kid, like my boy, is fairly introverted. He is also small, like 5'6" and a buck fifty. He was not impressed with the academic rigor, although I doubt that was his biggest complaint because it won't be much if any tougher at Nevada. I think the kid was just really looking for reasons to support his decision to depart and "Bama gave him plenty.

Well Jalen Hurts looking at Maryland right now and Austin Kendall from blowu is putting himself in the transfer portal

Who waits till they go to a University before becoming a fan? That should be elementary school at the latest. I became a fan listening to OU football games on the radio.

So you agree that is perfectly fine to degrade someone who is a fan of the University of (insert any state), even if that person grew up in that state, lives in that state, and/or has spent their entire life watching and rooting for that team?

So..... You shouldn’t be allowed to be a fan of a professional sports team unless you live in that city, right?

I know A LOT of aggie fans who never went to a&m, and I’ve never heard them called a T-shirt fan.

So, what is the cutoff criteria to NOT be a t-shirt fan? Graduated from, or just attended? Is an associate okay, or does it have to at least be a bachelors? Does post-grad count, or only undergrad? Is there a time requirement, say it has to at least be a semester? Does enrolled in a class count, or do you actually have to attend a class? Is only one class okay, or does it have to be more than one? How many? Does an adult continuing education class count? What about if you work for the college, can employees be fans even if they didn’t attend? There are thousands more, but hopefully you get the point...

I’m really curious to know where that firm line between who is legitimately allowed to be a fan of a sports team, in your eyes, without you looking down on them. Please tell us all what qualifications are good enough to suit you self appointed assholes, who look down your noses on people because they enjoy the sports of one team over another.... While you’re at it, why don’t you go ahead and tell every why YOU get to make those determinations.

Let’s be honest, the only reason aggies cry about t-shirt fans is because you are jealous. Texas has always done more and had more, which pisses you off. That’s why you can’t leave us alone YEARS after you left the conference. That’s why y’all are still so obsessive.

It’s sad...

You definitely have more. I wouldn't call it jealousy. We have always taken pride in our "Cult" status. I would call anyone who didn't go to that school a t-shirt fan. I just never argue about stuff much with Aggie fans about much because we are drinking the same coolaid.

That being said, I just always respect people a little more win arguing if they went there. I think it's a bit more advocating for the entire university and not just a football team.
