At the risk of losing face around here....I'll be watching the final round of the US Open....
I’m right with you freep. Flipping back and forth with the Stros game.
Golf will be on until 8pm tonight! I gotta tell you, the Fox announcers are leaps and bounds behind the CBS and NBC guys. Seriously, Joel Klatt on parts of the broadcast? I like Joel, but only on college Saturdays.

I don't know what her cause is, and don't really care. I just think it is extremely poor form to protest your nation as the captain of your national team.

If she wants to protest, she should not accept a spot on the team. It would make much more news, show she was willing to sacrifice for whatever she's bitching about, and maybe people would even know what her issue is.

Way to go, great job making sure women's soccer stays an obscure sport!

I'd like to see women's soccer become something people care about other than during the world cup. When people only watch your sport every few years, why go out of your way to piss people off? Atleast be really precise about why you're complaining, because otherwise they'll just remember you made them mad.

Ya that's the part that pisses people off-- if you want to protest something, fine. Millions and millions of young men and women have dodged bombs and bullets, blood and guts, for you to put on your nubby cleats and kick a ball on perfectly green grass into a net before thousands of people and TV cameras. If this is the only sacrifice you're capable of making on behalf of your nation and your people, then perhaps you should do a better job sharing with us what exactly it is you're doing.

Is this headed for a lockdown?

Hope not, and back to the actual game.

Today’s score could have been a lot worse, 6 or higher to nothing (nil), if it wasn’t for outstanding play by the Chile goalie. We were pummeling her with shots on goal.

That girl took a whoopin today but she gave better than she got. She had saves that were very impressive. Of course she had some gimmies but the one where she barely got a foot on the ball was a SURE goal--- and the post saved her once as well. We're she not on her A game it would have easily been 10-0.

Seemed to be a good strategy to rest so many starters in this game. I bet we see less than a full strength squad on Thursday as well. That said, the game will be pretty important in that losing would pit us against Canada or the Netherlands while a win gives us Spain. All 3 are good teams but Spain would be the weakest of the bunch.

Oh we won't rest the starters against Sweden. We hate Sweden. I mean HATE Sweden. Mia Hamm and Chastain and all the older girls are already tweeting and texting about beating Sweden into submission. They call the Swedish women's team the "Viking Bi+ches" for good reason. This is going to be a straight up tomcat street fight. Expect to see blonde hair strewn about the field in mass quantity.

I guess my posts were deleted. Whatever.

I bleed red/white and blue but Im hoping we get knocked out. I find the excuse making for running up the score pathetic. An NFL team would be roundly criticized if it ran up 70 points on an opponent and 13-0 in soccer is equal to 91-0 in football.

I dont care if the subs really want to score and have their moment. These are professionals. Its about the team, not everyone getting to score. When youre up 7 or 8 to nothing halfway through the second half, you call off the dogs.

Goal differential is being made way too big of a deal. You only need 2 wins to qualify for the knockout round, and a +13 differential is insane. Youre going to advance with half that. And the USA is the favorite to win the whole thing. If they are worried that +8 after 1 game might not be enough then they are just trying to cover their asses.

Its a pretty bad look. Yes you play to win, but when you completely mud stomp your opponent, you dont then decapitate them and feed them to the dogs.

I wasn't aware that there was bad blood there. I'll be watching with a good friend of mine with Swedish/Norwegian background. Should be fun.

Crazy thing about sports, when you call off the dogs that means that players are no longer at 100% and I can tell you from first hand experience, the fastest way to injure yourself is to NOT go 100% during a competition. Now in a football game a team can take a knee and punt, but the defense better be going full bore because pissed off losers will take cheap shots. There were some very hard fouls late by Thai players late in the match. That's how people get hurt---- going half speed while your adversary goes full speed. If Thailand wants the dogs called off, the coach simply needs to call a timeout and walk their players off the field. In boxing, you throw in the towel.

Thailand got their butt beat for two simple reasons-----
1. They aren't that good
2. Every single one of our girls was playing at her peak.

That's the witches brew that leads to an ass whipping every time.

Ive played soccer competitively. You dont play at half speed, you just dont score. You don't attack. Yeah Thailand was fouling hard. Our girls were still coming hard trying to score more and more.

Theres a difference between playing slow and playing hard but not taking shot after shot after shot when you're up a million points.

I didn't mind them scoring 13 goals. Just wish they hadn't acted like the last 10 goals were some huge deal. Some of those ladies are in their 30's, if it were a bunch of teenagers it would not have bothered me as much. But I still would have thought showing a little class would be better.

Thats just it. Wanting to score is fine, but context. Ladies we are up 9-0. Dont shoot anymore. We got 30 minutes to go. Weve made our point and these other girls arent in our league. Lets play good defense and control the ball. Lets show class and not embarrass them anymore.

Boom.

Also the women's team wants to be paid as much as the men? If the US men's national team played the women's national team they would beat the ladies 25 to 0.

It's like saying WNBA players should get paid the same as NBA players.

I'll allow that. Good point.

Being health conscious, I would use only organic maple syrup and organic extra virgin olive oil...

This is isn't set in stone but Ive played and watched enough soccer in my lifetime that I think this is pretty accurate when it comes to professional level soccer:

1-0: Close but a win is a win.
2-0: Solid win.
3,4-0: Convincing and dominant win.
5,6-0: Annihilation of opponent.
7-0: Losing manager in danger of being sacked

8-0 or worse: Virtually never happens in the men's game at the highest levels and still extremely rare in lower division pro leagues.

Even in the womens game where the US is akin to UCONN in womens college basketball, its still extremely rare to hit 7 or 8 goals.

Hitting 9 or 10? At that point just stop. The losing team shouldn't be there and its utterly embarrassing for the winning team to justify continuing to score more.

I dont care what Alex Morgan says. They're punks.

I got laid at a German House party once but there was no wesson oil.

The US will be tested early in the knockout round as either France or Germany will likely await them in the quarterfinals (barring an upset in the round of 16). These two teams represent the greatest challenge for the US.

A win or draw tomorrow against Sweden gives the US a bit of an easier match up in the round of 16 - playing Spain instead of Netherlands or Canada.

If we draw against Sweden we get the group 1st spot because we scored 13!:)
